After I conditioned the fretboard following the final cleanup from staining it last week I threw the strings on my Universe. I just had to show you guys one more time. Something about having the strings on it vs having them off just really shows how awesome it turned out. That was worth every bit of work that I had to put into making it right. I love it!!!

The contrast with the brown fret sides works well. I think it's better that you left them brown. 🤌

@@Tharsis_ I don’t even think it was rosewood but a substitute. That’s why Kev had so much issues getting it black. Ibanez hates using ebony though.

Dude I just got back into guitar after a 15ish year break and I've found a whole new love for the upgrading / modding / DIY world. I picked up a cheap Ibanez RG GIO and decided I'm going to do everything I can to make it better. I'm freaking pumped. @Kevin Frasard you could do like i did when i did this and sand the poly off the sides and back of the neck and use black leather dye or stain or whatever you used on the fretboard on the BACK & SIDES aswell & black it all! Then apply a satin poly to the back & sides. Theres a ton of plus sides to this. Side dots pop more, satin finish is less sticky & you can keep sanding until the neck is EXACTLY the shape you want! She'd look extra sick ALL black w/ green. Looks badass now too. Good work!

I'll be honest, I thought it would come out a shitshow just because fretboards are usually treated with oils or chemicals and in that case stain usually don't penetrate in the wood like it is supposed to. I used to work in a wood furniture/fixtures factory and one of the main concerns was to keep the wood as clean as possible before stain and finish it, otherwise you could see halos in the colour. But you did a great job man! G fucking G. And btw if you're still in the setup process, please check the string alignment with the neck. To me they seem narrower on the "thin" strings side, as the headstock needed to be "pulled up" (in playing position). Or I may need glasses, could be either. Cheers man! Keep up the good work!

Looks.oioe the neck might need a loosen, cranking up and re tighten. The high E looks right over the end of the frets at the pickup end of the neck. Might just be camera angles, although it's quite a common issue and easy fix

Yo, dude, looks great!! This project of yours inspired me to do 2 myself (i used Mini Wax True Black). I did an LTD M-255 (black) and an Ibanez RG570 that was repainted with what I'd call "metallic sour apple" Quick question: did you finish the board with anything after the stain dried? I couldnt find you mentioning anything of the sort. Just curious. Mine look great, but just wondering if i could enhance them more somehow. Thank you so much, brother!!!
