I'm not sure about these street interview videos. They're kinda amusing, and here I am leaving a comment, so I suppose they're working in that respect. As far as telling us anything about average levels of knowledge though, I don't think they prove a lot. Stand in a busy high street for a while, stopping passers-by, and you're going to get a huge variety in the type of answers you get. At that point, it all just comes down to a matter of editing.

Could you please explain why some native English speakers don’t know the past tense of certain words? I’m very curious about why this happens. It seems as though they are learning English as a second language, even though it is their primary one.
@NanoLT2 күн бұрын
They probably don't know what past tense means
@HereGoesKevin2 күн бұрын
Because many native English speaking people didn't learn English the same way as non-native English speakers learn it. For non-native English speakers they have to formally learn it, they learned the past tense, past participle, what is an adjective, noun etc... For native speakers they just learn the language naturally, they just speak it because it's the language that exists around them, thus they don't necessarily need to learn what the meaning of "past tense" is
@ComposeALot2 күн бұрын
It's because they have no first language so their second language is English.
@hhc10002 күн бұрын
And that's why learning foreign languages is so difficult for many in Britain, without that grammatical basis it's impossible to get anywhere in other languages. They are taught it in school, people just don't seem to value what they are being taught
