Just let it sink and test the bike. Stay calm and focussed. Don't get too excited. You could be disappointed when the first issues appear. I can already say one thing for sure after testing it. It is not the best bike in the world. Not even close! Hit the brakes and let things pan out.

So far I've put 1 kid through college at denali and altrider and touratech!! She has gone from stock to looking the part! Mitas e07 plus! Bit overkill as I doubt she will go offroad! Too heavy! All these big adventure bikes are, with my skill level! That said, they are great touring bikes!

Damn,$31,000 for a bike? At that price point, it shouldn’t need anything to be completely ready to tackle anything you could dream of throwing at it. $31k and you still need luggage. And for the Rhodes scholars coming with the comments “don’t watch it if you can’t afford it.” I’m here to support the channel whether it’s something I’d ride or not. If you want to spend $30k on a bike, do it. I’d spend 15k on an Africa twin or something similar, and buy a hot tub for my house with the rest, before I bought this thing.

My bike is approaching 4k miles and has suffered what I consider premature rear brake pad wear at 3.5k miles, a stretched rider seat cover due to be replaced under warranty, and also the well publicised starter relay recall. What is everyone on about with the reaction to the price? In this free market capitalist society virtually everything we consume has offerings ranging from dirt cheap to outrageously expensive. It's all relative to one's perception of value or enjoyment etc. Some people think a Big Mac is expensive while others don't bat an eyelash at a 200 dollar wagyu steak. Or a high priced Swiss watch compared with a nice down and dirty yet nice quartz watch. Or a cheap 200 smart phone vs a 1,500 Apple phone. BMW will sell loads of the new GS and the price is somewhat irrelevant. Just another offering in the motorcycle market. To BMWs credit they have created a product history with the GS of near legendary status. The price? "It is what it is". I'll take 2,,, hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, but extra mayo. 😊 I just buy what I want. No need to justify or validate or rationalize the price. 😉

Hello from the arctic circle in Northern Norway! So incredibly cool that you are buying a BMW R1300GS!!!! I can't wait until you start testing the bike on your channel!!!! I'm sure you'll get a lot of viewers on your channel now, and it's well deserved!!!! I like this honest test of various bikes, and I have followed you for quite some time. The choice of black was perfect in my eyes, but you must get the side panel GS black too! Then it will be perfect! And you are most welcome to come and experience Norway by bike! Europe is just a short flight away! July-Aug are the best months to come here! Got lots of good tips for you!

Congrats Ian on your $31k venture👍🏼 I’m looking forward to following your episodes. I’ve owned a 2009 GS, 2010 GS Triple Black and 2016 GSA. Had a 2022 HD Pan America and wasn’t impressed at all. Currently I’m on a 2017 BMW S1000XR but soon I’ll be adding the 2024 Transalp based on your review on it and others I’ve seen. Keep up the good and entertaining work! Also good job in moving to your new Casa, more land and you got Thomas Mtn as your playground behind you🙌🏼

This will be an exciting series for sure. (Though I don't see how this series will ever top the just-completed TransAlp series in production quality and content.) Just so glad to see Big Rock Moto taking on this challenge! Those beautiful forged wheels are really interesting. I totally agree with (both) of Sierra's opinion(s) regarding the headlight. Ian's facial expressions regarding the headlight are classic. Sticker-shock - yah.😮

Nice going Ian! Good luck and looking forward to your reviews. I live just a few kilometers from the BMW factory where these bikes are built and must say the 1300 is impressive . Though more sleek and with cleaner lines, it still has that brutal look. I will hang on to my 1250 Triple Black ( looking even more brutal ), having bought it 2021., However, like most men, wanting the newest machine is always tempting until you tell your wife😂. Greetings from Berlin, Jim

Ian, I’ve been waiting for this. Thank you. Look forward to the series. Lot of comments out there on the headlight. Early on I listened to designer Christian Hahn-Wornle discuss it on Long Way Home’s channel. I’m happy to see it’s now symmetrical at least. I think it’s important for safety reasons to look different enough to be noticed by other vehicles on the road. Right now one of my concerns with the new bike is the availability/compatibility of soft luggage. I’ve got a lot of money in the bags for my current 1250. I wish they would have taken that into account for customers that want to transition to the new bike. It is significant enough to make me pause buying it. I think overall the new bike’s looks and features are great. I’ve yet been able to ride one so can’t comment there. It appears there’s a lot of things we’ve been asking for. I think folks have to appreciate that this bike was ten years in the design process and the designers tried to make it meet as many rider demands as they could. I think they did a great job and look forward to hearing more from you on your experience.

Horrible idea. Get a small or medium sized used dual sport and learn on that. You WILL drop your first bike, especially if you take it on dirt. Sell it after a year for close to what you bought it for, then get something bigger/nicer.
