I found this song because of an ad and I've never turned back. Truly a work of art. Such engaging storytelling. We get the motivation of our protagonist and we truly grow to think ill of the antagonist. But it's not a simple antagonist, they don't do much to actively gain our hatred but the protagonist has such palpable disdain for them that we have no choice but to root for them. And the twist at the end is both unexpected and beautifully described. "And to the feasting rats; delicious." Gives me chills. That single line make us, the listener, realize what is happening before the song catches up to describe the event. We are initially caught off guard. "My word!" We may exclaim. "Grand Commander the Exterminator did nothing to the home? Why? How could it be?" But we are wrong. The rats! Truly wonderful. Shit. Wait it's a metaphor? I just read the description of the video. It's a metaphor? WHAT? NO! HE RELEASES THE RATS INTO THE HOME AND... BUT? METAPHOR? FOR WHAT? CAPITALISM? GOVERNMENT? You've turned me upside down, Grand Commander. Great work old chap.

So, question. Me and my friend are debating what this is a metaphor about. He says it's about labor unions, I say it's about systems of government, we're both probably extremely off base on what it's actually about, can you give us an idea, or even a hint?

The house is a metaphor for the systems that keep the wealthy rich, and everyone else poor. Kicking a hole in the fence and letting rats invade symbolizes the power of ideas, and the one I was thinking about at the time was XRP which is crypto that can revolutionize cross border payments and of course they're getting unfairly sued by the SEC. At the time I wrote the song a rich person also owed me money which is where the immediate anger and vitriol came from. So from a macro level to a personal level, it feels like rich people have built a fence to keep us from experiencing their charmed lives, and I believe the younger generation has a unique combination of technical mastery mixed with compassion that will subvert this system, and I'm here for it. So you were pretty close with systems of government!

I've been listening to this over and over, and was scrolling the comments when I saw one about how this isn't a song. It's stuck with me, and it's prompted a lil essay, of sorts. This isn't a *typical* song, it's jarring compared to the mainstream. It's more like a musical monologue at times, yes, *but that isn't a bad thing.* Music varies so heavily, just because it isn't what you expect, you've got to think: "Maybe this has a point in relation to the song?" And I think it does. As Grand Commander said in an earlier comment, about how this is about people coming together to bring down systems once a point of weakness, an entry, is found. I think you could argue, that this harsher, non-melodic melody is much more fitting. Could GC have done something that was just a song and a tune without any of the "harsher" things, like the monologuing, or the repetition without much change? Sure. But I don't think it would feel the same as this. A "perfect" melody is not something fitting. This song is basically about non-conforming, and I think the style it was wrote/sung in shows this perfectly. I just think it's especially relevant right about now, with the SAG-AFTRA strikes. A group effort focused to work for something better. Fits the song, no?

i'm so happy that you can hear the intention. really enjoyed reading this, thank you for sharing. and yes, there was a vibe about the song that just needed yelling. i consider it a rant. funny story is that most of the lyrics were improvised into a phone during a walk and transcribed later. it was very spontaneous. i just love trying to bring out a vibe or a concept or a character in a song. good/bad these things can get distracting. is it cool? does it fit the vibe? if those two answers are a yes, it normally won't get deleted.

once I got bitten by a brown recluse and i went and got medicine for it and then took a ridiculously long walk down the back alley where all these huge houses have entrances to the backs of their houses, and there were all these massive fences, and I noticed a hole in one, and it cracked me up, that they could have this huge house and a hole in their fence, and then the idea came to me of some type of evil business person being embroiled in a revenge scheme orchestrated by someone they did wrong, and i got out my phone and recited what became most of the lyrics.
