Congrats Jesse! In a recent survey BMI sent out a few months ago, I begged BMI to add the cue sheet feature...I came over from SESAC before BMI and we can see cue sheets there, as well, but only for SESAC tracks. It would be super helpful to have that feature added! There is so much good info on a cue sheet.

Yep, we are moving… very slowly but very surely 😅 Small royalty checks coming through. But more importantly, I feel like I’m now at a point where I’m comfortable with the music I’m strongest at. So with that, hoping to get more consistent with quality music, rather than ‘still trying to figure things out’. Working on briefs in recent months has also really helped me find what my strong points and weaknesses are. So overall, feeling settled in my sync journey and feeling motivated. Looking forwards to the year ahead.

I'm with BMI and recommend them for anyone in the US wanting to get started with Sync. I feel their royalty rates pay better per placement.

Hey Jesse, I was wondering if one of your services/memberships could help me. Last year I put together maybe 25+ tracks (and then each with cutdowns, alt endings etc) and then submitted 5 track playlists to maybe 40+ libraries with no success. I was accepted by Pond5 but I think anyone can get in there. I tried a couple of memberships for sync communities and asked for help/feedback but was told by everyone that my music was fine as far as sound design, mix/master etc was concerned but I just needed to find the right library and my music was quite niche. Would any of your memberships have a section that could point me in the right direction? I gave up in the end but still have all the music and I still write regularly. Thanks.

@@WillyJunior in my career, very few. Maybe about 20-30 of my cues ever earned Sync Fees. The vast majority of my income is generated via Royalties.

What type of placements generally provide the upfront sync fees? That’s one of the attractive features to doing this, mentioned in sync books and other info, but as I move forward, it’s sounding like upfront license fees are actually not prevalent. So that’s a bummer to hear when our tracks do get used. So I’ve been a little confused on that.

@@b_rad_tunes-n-stuff6421 when you create tracks for custom ad or promo/trailer placements, those usually come with a Sync Fee. A lot of TV placements are covered under a blanket license from a library so that’s why they don’t include sync fees.

(I'm currently ASCAP) In other words, I've have a couple tracks that have been accepted by Tunedge, and have been wondering how would I know if one was used. @@paulthomson2786 I don’t share my personal income publicy, but it can vary widely depending on the type, duration and airings of placements. Anywhere from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands.

I'm with BMI and I wish we had cue sheet data like this. I'm curious about the definition of a placement? Is it that your music has appeared in 8500 unique episodes? Or is it that your episodes have aired 8500 times during the statement period?
