I disagree that you'll be talking about the exact product that you're applying for! I thought this too and I went into a whiteboarding challenging SUPER prepared for that.... only to be completely thrown off guard with a completely random prompt. Woops! You should still study their website/app and be prepared for that, but also be prepared to be given a random prompt and have a framework to be able to tackle that. Although I do agree with the Zalanda approach, I think this is much more relevant from a hiring perspective.

That's why I am saying 'chances are' :) Exceptions happens especially if you are applying to SaaS B2B products, where you can't get access to it before you join the company. Also that happens with startup founders that take the 1st design challenge they found in internet because they can't come up with a tailored one. But still, most likely you will talk about the exact product, sot it's still useful.

Hey ines. Thank you for your insights. The question of how you would support a Junior UX Designer. Would you still answer it that way? Especially for a virtual fitting room, don’t you think that technical details also play a significant role here? So how is it implemented technically? In the backend or the frontend? Is the video uploaded and can I leave the page, etc.? Or should I concentrate on visual stuff?

I don't see it as my role to explain how to implement the solution technically on back end, my role is to explain how to design it. And because you are not going to code it as a junior UX designer you should focus on UX and UI first ;) But yes, to know how to build UI you need to understand how code works.

The way how the system works often influence the UX. In many cases it is important to gather the Information in the first steps. Since we are implementing in an existing system.
