This week, I learned how to make mustache wax! Now I can finally fulfill my dream of looking like a Civil War General. I found that the best ratio for what I need of beeswax to coconut oil is 2:1. Maybe you'll find that you need something different! Give this a try and let me know how it works!

If you want a really strong mixture, add a couple of small spoons of natural honey, the change is amazing, and honey is beneficial for the hair, doing that you will already have a good aroma of honey and you will not need essential oils.

Glad you figured out about the essential oils. Also, try melting your wax first since it takes longer to break down then add your coconut oil.

I made some wax before. It was a little greasy so I tried the 2:1 beeswax to Coconut oil and it was so hard, no way was it going into my 'stache so I went back and forth a few time adding 1/8 tsp of oil trying to find that perfect blend. I want it to go on quick, no hair dryers no fuss...I have my latest batch setting up as we speak..

Hey, Luke! I loved this vid of yours and made the wax myself together wih my 12-year-old daughter. She was responsible for the scents (sandalwood + lemon), together we put it into cream containers.We had a lot of fun following your hints and testing your recipe! Thanks a lot! Love your personality! I made a 1:1 TBLS with 2 drops of Bergamot. You’re right, not tacky enough. Looks like 2:1 is too tacky for me so I’ll try 4:3 next. Also, the essential oils don’t last. Did your 12 drop actually yield 12 drop per container or was that before some of it vaporized off?

That's a great alternative to a double boiler. I was about to bring out mine but then I thought, "That's a lot of water to heat up for just an ounce project." Then my wife asked, "Why don't you use the microwave oven." I'll try that next time. Medium to low power, of course. The 50/50 blend is working well. I might stiffen it up. I didn't use any essential oils. The beeswax and coconut oil has a subtle enough aroma. I think my next step is trimming issues. Thanks for the video.

Started making my own wax recently, and the 2:1 ratio is what I went with straight away. It does sometimes feel a bit too tacky, but part of that is that I suffer the misfortune of having thin, greasy hair to begin with so it doesn't take much for it to feel "bogged down." I might experiment with a 1.5:1 ratio at some point. One piece of advice, though: I would avoid the tea tree oil. While it does have a reputation as being "good for hair," a lesser known fact is that it diminishes testosterone, which in turn inhibits facial hair growth. So it might make your mustache "healthier," but it won't grow as well. Another little tip is to add a dash of powdered Arnica. It not only has its own "hair health" benefits, it also adds a tiny bit of "Dryness" to keep the wax from melting out of your mustache throughout the day (something you probably noticed happening during the warmer seasons). I've also begun to experiment with creating my own beard butter, using a ratio of 1:6:6 beeswax, coconut oil, and Shea butter. And another dash of Arnica just because. It's mainly a sort of after-shower conditioner and softener so your beard doesn't feel as scratchy and isn't as prone to getting tangled, as well as offering subtle shaping. Upping the wax portion would make it better for shaping but will also increase that "tackiness" that could make it more difficult to work into the beard, so I'm leaving the ratio alone for now. I had to get the Shae butter on Amazon because I don't know of any local sources that sell it. Same with the Arnica powder, actually. So far I've been able to source wax from local beekeepers (which I feel adds more "personal charm" to the products as opposed to buying everything from "big companies") but I may have to look into the nearest Ace to see if they carry it. AS much as I prefer locally sourcing as many ingredients as I can, it's not always a consistent option.

Also, a small crock pot/slow cooker works well in place of a double boiler. Picked up a small (maybe 36oz) one at a tag sale for five bucks last summer. It's worked great. Get yourself some silicone-coated utensils (spatula, whisk) to make clean-up easier (once the wax cools mostly just flakes right off, or wipe it off with a paper towel while it's still soft).

Use something more conductive than glass, and glass won't explode unless you have a major pressure or temp change. For ex: I had a jar of jam blow up on me and I had no shirt on... Melting sugar is the worst down your abs and... Pants Oh and boar brush will spread out that wax evenly

I've not made a wax myself yet.. But I've bought some equipment and ingredients to start making beard balms (first and foremost) and beard butter. Thinking of making some mustache wax as well, having it in a lip balm container 😀 if the stache gets messy during the day.

Update : I've made some beard-balm which turned out pretty good. I don't want my balm to be too hard. But it was simply: 2 tsp beeswax 2 tsp shea butter 1 tsp coconut oil 1 tsp jojoba oil 1 tsp apricot kernel oil I added essential oils, lime and peppermint. I think I'll add a bit more wax the next time. I'm gonna experiment with textures.
@HENKO_BEATS

Luke Brown I did another recipe today. But I now measure in grams.. 15 grams beeswax 5 grams shea butter 5 grams coconut oil 10 grams of liquid carrier oils of choice. I mixed jojoba, apricot kernel and avocado oil. I added some lime, lemon grass and ceder wood for the scent. I really like the texture of it and works good for my beard. Which is a bit longer than yours in this video. This recipe gave 50 ml of balm. Which I think is about 1,5 ounces.
@HENKO_BEATS

Luke Brown The recipe I posted is more of a balm. 😁 Ive not done any wax yet.. But I figure it's mostly a matter of texture. More or less beeswax does the work. But like I wrote, this was a balm I made. What's the scent of frankensense like?

BeelzeBeard Beard Co. have you tried doing it while your hairs are damp? Pulling a few out is normal and is just the dead hairs or hairs that are weak and or at the end of their life. So a few is normal but anything over like 10 is not normal
