With all these natural disasters, we try to make the most out of everyday life. We have high hopes too and continues what’s the best and with Gods guidance. Money is not everything. Humility, empathy and gratitude are most prominent in Filipinos.

It's perspective and maturity that allows one to not sweat the small stuff. I've found the same things you're describing about the culture and the people here in Mexico. There' are many Americans unhappy making $20 an hour and there are Mexicans here that are grateful to make $20 a day and be working to have shelter and put food on the table. The people in the Philippines and Mexico tend to have a better Work- Life balance than the other countries.

I completely agree! It's all about perspective.

@@EasternDreamer615 also wherever a Filipino has lived their life is "the best, the only place they feel safe" including Tondo stilt shack squatters. That's the tribal mentality still at the core of their life. Even when it's totally living in dire cr@p, it's their family, tribe, vibe, & they don't want to be anywhere else, even when they want to improve their situation, it's where they are not where they travel to work. Why 90% of offshore Filipino workers end up returning to where they grew up).

@@EasternDreamer615 you've probably met already the classic returnee OFW- a lot of them become Barangay officials & up in the system. Most telling character trait is an air of pride & the admiration of others around them. The usual scenario is 15-25 years work away living in bunk rooms eating like peasants at best, 12 hour days, 6 day weeks, 6 weeks off every 2 years & a trip home. They often are the only home owners in a Barangay. Usually their English is good, the law being in English they easily get into admin positions with local government. The sacrifices are huge.

Your thoughts remind me of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fu&k. It’s a great book in which the author advocates for focusing on what truly matters by giving fewer “fcks” about trivial issues and instead caring deeply about a select few important things.

You are more intuitive than I am for sure. As for rain...I've been soaked in less than a minute several times and all I can do is laugh at myself. I know I can't change it so I try to find the humor in the situation. Being happy is easier than being pissed and I always seek the path of least resistance for most everything in life.

For a Westerner considering retirement in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Philippines, it’s essential to embrace an open-minded approach and think creatively. Adjusting to life in the Philippines involves adapting to a variety of factors, including the climate-such as typhoons-along with the local culture, people, and cuisine. As a developing nation, the Philippines presents notable differences compared to one's country of origin. However, one significant advantage is the prevalence of English, which is widely spoken throughout the archipelago, helping to bridge any language gaps. Additionally, Filipinos are known for their warmth and hospitality, qualities that seem to be deeply ingrained in their culture.

Filipinos has a mentality of "at least" attitude. The job is hard but at least i have a job. My bag got snatched but at least im alive n not hurt. My house got burnt down but at least no one died. Its an attitude of seeing the glass half full. So we hardly complain. N if something bad happens, we move on n rebuilt life.
