I did a big declutter last fall and then wrote down into my phone's notes app, what I need to buy this year (i.e. new sandals since my previous ones broke last summer). I also gave each item I was allowed to buy a month when to buy it. I'm also doing a low buy year, so in the same not I have a list of things I am not allowed to buy, list of things that come to mind I would like to buy (so a wishlist) and then finally a list of thing that I end up buying. This helps to keep the urge to buy lower and also keeps me somewhat accountable to myself 😄

Thanks for sharing how you’re being intentional about your own spending. I like your strategy of designating a month for purchasing specific items you want - I think I’ll try this myself! Something to look forward to 🤗

Thank you so much for sharing what helped me was, asking myself everytime i wanted to buy something, I would ask myself have I enough, example a nice new cup and if I already had enough cups then the answer would be yes I have enough, so then there was no need to buy it, I asked myself this question over and over again until it became a habit and i can say it stopped me buying so much, its funny how we can just become bored with something so easily, and buy something because it looks so lovely. Debt and taking things to charity shops over and over again made me so fed up so in the end it all had to stop, please try asking yourself have you enough, hope it encourages someone today

Thanks for sharing what's worked for you Jacqueline! Knowing we have enough is super important, and I've found it very helpful as well when shopping. Kind of goes with the whole "do I have this already" question!

Thank you for this great video. I just did a major declutter because I've lost 85 lbs in the past year. (Yes I'm bragging 😂)I went too far, and I'm in a no buy year, so I'm stuck. (Why am I doing a no buy when I lost so much?🤦♀️) We will see how it goes wearing too big clothes till next year. On the influence of creators, I'm was so so bad with that. I've had to stop watching all hauls. Cataloging your wardrobe has helped me in the past. Do it!

Hi Paisley! Thanks for sharing the journey that you’re on. I’m curious about what made you want to do a no-buy year? That seems like a major change in the wardrobe department and if it’s within your budget maybe getting a few pieces that you feel confident in (in your new size) will do more good than harm!
@SimplyKatieWalks9 ай бұрын
@HaleyVillena I bought 3 high-end purses that I didn't use and really didn't like. I sold them, but it made me rethink my shopping habits. I started a no buy to challenge my habits again. I agree that a few quality pieces would be beneficial, I just have to be intentional.

Hi, I wish I had this advice when I was your age. Later in life, I bought and bought and bought to fill a void. Sad but true also because I was too busy to do the laundry. Also, it's sad but true. If I had sat down and added up the amount of money I wasted, I would've been rich by now. Moving forward, I'm a senior, not that my life is over, I still have a couple of years left or more being positive, so I only have in my closet what I really need. If I feel I need something new, get rid of something I have to accommodate the new item.

I appreciate your mention of not being able to identify your own personal style at that point in time. That's where I've been for a while, even more so now that I've lost weigh and the clothes that I still have don't fit the best. Most of what i have left are things that I don't necessarily love, but more I need to have clothes to be able to go out in public 😅. I also primarily thrift because regular stores just have too many options for me. I do enjoy watching hauls because I use pinterest and it's nice to see the vision come to life. Any other recommendations for trying to grasp one's personal style?

I'll be real as a woc, colorwise and sites like that are absolutely horrible for us. They always give me (and other poc) deep winter and sometimes deep autumn. Getting my colors done is on my list, but I spent a LONG time using sites like that and wondering why deep winter made me look so grey and dull. I'm probably a warm or bright spring. But if any of you are also discouraged by results from sites like colorwise looking dull on you, please don't feel bad. Personal color is best done IRL and you'll have better luck using shades of lipstick to determine which way to lean.

@brittanyb8997 I'd recommend style refinement here on KZbin, she has shorts showing the lipstick test! :) that's what sealed it for me that I'm either a bright or a warm spring, bc warm nudes don't do much on me and a clear pink or peach is more natural on my skin tone than a muted one. With bright and light peaches, I don't even look like I'm wearing makeup sometimes. 😊 Hope this helps!

Thank you for always putting up amazing content. In fact, your videos are so inspirational that you deserve an audio blog of your own. In other words, all of your experiences from decluttering to a new mom to favorites, and lots more Hope topics to talk about could be made into a podcast. Perhaps there are things that you probably aren’t ready to talk about on your channel yet, But you probably would be ready to bring them up if you were to start your own podcast. It’s just an idea, I know you deleted your blog in your social media, but definitely think about it.

All your tips resonate with me. You mentioned certain shops/sales as triggers- I have a catalogue shopping habit, do I pay my full account off in one payment, then get rid of the account or do I pay the payments each month till account cleared then close? Aghh Help. Thanks Lesley
@HaleyVillena9 ай бұрын
Hi Lesley! Thanks for sharing your experience, glad this resonated with you. If I were in your shoes and was able to pay off the account in full I’d probably do that. Paying monthly might just keep that door open for you to continue buying stuff. There’s nothing wrong with occasional purchases but if it’s more impulsive than intentional then you might just need some time without the account to reform those habits! Hope this helps 🫶🏽

My tips for decluttering the wardrobe is to bring out all of it and split those into boxes. Whenever I really need something I get it out and wear them as normal. After that I will fold that one into my wardrobe. Keep living for about 1-2 weeks later and now you can guess it right ? I can live totally fine without the leftover in my boxes and these will be gave for someone who really need, maybe some charity group.
