I Learned To Ride A Unicycle. It Was Painful.

In my previous video, I learned to ride an electric unicycle and in this one, I see if those skills transfer over to the acoustic version. Learning to ride a unicycle was very challenging and it took a long time. Fergie made it her personal mission to ensure I did not learn to ride a unicycle. But with the help of Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, I was able to prevail.

Your peddle unscrewing means that your seat is rotated 180 degrees. It means that you are peddling "backwards" which unscrews the peddles from the cranks. It'll destroy the threads on the cranks and peddles if you don't fix it. Fortunately the fix is super easy. Just loosen the seat and rotate 180 degrees and you're good to go! This is why the threads on one of the peddles is reversed (i.e. "righty loosy, lefty tighty"). This is the case on both bicycles and unicycles. Great job learning! It took me much much longer. But now it's my main form of exercise 😁

And most cranks and peddles have an L or R on them if you're not sure! 👈🤔👉

you cracked me up watching this, every second :) I started leaning uni at 65, 67 now. super impressed with your free mount, I still can't do that, only with a bit of wood behind to stop roll back. I've got a one wheel pint, just like you said, crash, crash, then you're off, the unicycle makes you work for every inch every time. I can put a person with no experience on a bicycle and push em and they will go a stones throw before falling over, not on a uni. I totally feel your reward over effort, one rotation at the start feels great, 3 feels like you've climbed Everest. The car park thing cracked me up, I practice at a school, so only weekends, it has a long fence to practice along, if anyone turns up I'm totally thrown off my game and wait just like you did, also the more confident I got the worse I went, just like you trying for the triple, I was cracking up watching that because I totally relate, I rode better after a month off and felt worse with regular practice, crazy. This video is the absolutely the best to watch for someone learning, you nailed the whole experience. Awesome mate, just subscribed because you are so entertaining to watch. Ken , Australia

Lol! We have creepy cars that quietly sit in a dirt parking lot near a running trail behind a Target in my city too! They're there at random times throughout the day and night. The car owners just sit there....and it's so odd! It's been a burning question of mine for YEARS! 🤣🤣 Do they know something we don't know? Is there like an underground community of random car sitting people that know things that we don't ? BTW great job learning how to ride the unicycle! Not something I'll be picking up, but your Onewheel video is what brought me here, AND I subscribed, so keep it up!👍

I’ve never felt so spiritually connected to a random youtube comment lmao My whole life I’ve been haunted by creepy car sitters. Sleeping is one thing, but just sitting there and staring? What is even happening lol We’re never going to find out. But rest assured, whenever you want to just chill and be alone outside, the creepy car sitter already has their vehicle pointed right at you.

I'm 6'4" 29 year old and I've been riding since I was 16. I started on a 24" unicycle, with a road tire tread, and the only road I had to learn on was a bumpy gravel one. So, oddly enough I'm more uncomfortable riding on smoother surfaces in town. Mostly because of the rate of speed I pick up. Especially when I try getting comfortable on my 20" freestyle unicycle. Balancing with your arms really works all the shoulder and arm muscles. Also, makes it really awkward when you are at a skatepark and a skateboarder zoomies by you and they get your elbow to the face. Whoops.

Greetings! I didn't learn to ride until I was 44 and it took a bit of determination. I was on a military tour in Africa and had lots of time to learn. When I returned I got my young son a unicycle and he learned and we rode in a few modest parades and it was a lot of fun. All grade schools should have a unicycling option as well as juggling as each develops confidence and demonstrates tenacity and determination. Thanks for sharing and the best of luck!

You should increase the seat height slightly, it helps a lot with balance if your knees are almost all the way stretched when the pedal is down… took me a few months to feel comfortable riding that thing but this was the advice that helped the most

After watching numerous videos on How To: and Books. The best advice I had heard mentioned once was. Sit On the SEAT. It isn't a bicycle. That is the hardest thing to get past. You aren't going to stand and pump the pedals. Light on the feet. This concept made all the difference. I was always getting stuck at the Bottom.

Learning to ride a unicycle is about as hard as learning to ride a bike....if you want to do it and practice 30 minuts a day you will get it. I taught a six year old to ride one and she can now say that she learned to ride a unicycle before she learned to ride a bicycle. I wish more people would take the time to learn because it truly is a fantastic experience

the balance is the easy part of riding a uni. once you have it there is a bit of a time frame of building the endurance to ride for more than 5 mins at a time lol. in my youth i was riding for upwards of 12 hours a day. now its just my daily transport around town. btw ive been riding 33 years at this point lol.

It took normally 2 weeks of practice to just ride. Your progress looks really good. The seat looks a bit too low - and try putting the wheight on the seat - not on the paddles. Follow up: turning, pendel, standing up. Looking forward to it :)

3:27 - Yea bike shorts. 3:42 - In the very next frame did you freak out and throw the caterpillar to the ground? lol I think people usually have the seat higher, with the legs straighter like a regular road bicycle. To get on, they put the seat in place, meaning the whole unicycle is laying back a good bit, and then you jump forwards and the unicycle straightens up and then you're up high on top of it. So you can probably only touch the ground with your toes when on it. Edit: Wait no, they start by pushing down on the peddle that they hop up with, and that makes the unicycle peddle backwards up under them. Then they pedal forwards. Interesting.

Legit, the unicycle is pointless since you'll never hop on your unicycle to run to the store for some bits and pieces. That says something about your content since I watched the whole video twice and will probably watch it a 3rd time.

When I was kid, there was a local guy that did used to ride his giraffe unicycle to the store to buy stuff. There a guy in a FB unicycle group that has posted a video of him riding his 36” unicycle to the store to buy a 12 pack or case of bear that he then carries home on his shoulder, while riding a unicycle. If you get good enough, riding to the store to get something is very possible, especially if you have a backpack.
