Because of your funny, safe, and realistic approach I was able to get up and ride in about 15 minutes with only one true minor fall. Appreciate you taking one for the team and sharing your learnings so I didn't have to. So glad I ordered one. Only on day 2, and we already have 12 miles on the board. It's a total blast, and already made a new friend/riding partner out of a complete stranger who just saw me riding. P.S. you're right about the stupid plug....lost it on my first day, got replacements at the store that don't fit, and have decided to just replace packing tape between charges.

Hi there! Just wondering how your experience went! I just discovered this channel and have just bought a used Pint (not the X) a few days ago. 40 years old and about 240-245 lbs. Just found your channel. 👍 Congrats on the Pint, Onewheels are great fun. I've got over 7000 miles on my XRs and the thing I wish someone had told me at the start would be to practice jumping off with both feet. Forget heel lift dismount and simple stop, just practice over and over slowing right down and jump off with both feet. Do it so many times that you can do it nice and neat and your Pint just plops down gracefully... jumping off heelside is best, so your Pint is in front of you. It sounds like a dumb thing to practice, but you program your brain/reflexes for both feet to instantly leave the board at the same time, and be able to do it effortlessly. Then later, when you are in a bail out situation (will happen a lot) you can just get both feet instantly off the board and get them on the ground in a safe footing, trust me, this will save your bacon... 😎

What a brilliant review! I'm 70yrs old and in the process of advertising my bike for sale; I don't want my last ride to be a wreck. Guess I'm not seriously considering a one wheel, but if I were younger I think it would be right up my alley cause it's the closest thing to effortless motion available, that doesn't require a license, etc.kind of like flying on the ground. Good video. I really agree about the fender. Lucky for me the shop I bought from through one in for free. I'm not sure about the need for charge plug but I don't ride in dirt and water. You treat machines good and they will treat you better. The rail guards are a waste. You can use the same protective tape we use on Mt bike frames and SUP rails. Works awesome! I'm a little on the fence about the Fang thing. I bought a V1 7 yrs ago rode 1500mi and never had a nose dive. My son had a nose dive 50ft from the house? He hit hard and it scared the crap out of him. So I built front safety wheels for it out of some old roller blades...Super easy diy mod. They didn't help my sons fear but I left them on anyway. I put a Two-x battery on my V1 and even though the motor is rated 500w for the given battery voltage my ranged more than doubled. Did I mention that I weight about 250lbs LOL. I put an after market mini lighted voltmeter on it and never looked back. Never needed to carry a phone again. When the Pint came out I had to try it. Wholly crap what a cool board! I rode XR's side by side with my V1/ Two-x and in my world I couldn't feel the difference. I really wanted a new toy anyway. so bought a Pint. I just ride for the ride. I'm not a basher or a speed demon and my Mountain bike is my off road machine of choice. I bought the Pint and 3 different wore out tires later I upgraded the battery to make it a Quart. Personally I love the tighter stance of the Pint. This is a turny little machine and even at 250lbs it will go further than care to ride in one session. I'm 66 now and still 250lbs and still having a blast on my Pint. I've ridden everything and for me it's still my fav! I guess not for everyone.

Just got mine today. It’s a surf/snow board on wheels. Its pricey but awesome. It’s easier for those experienced with skate, surf or snow boards. Balance is key! Even if you move forward, you still want your head to be above the wheel and not in front and just turn with you hips like a surf/snow board. You want stand vs bending (unstable) little bend ok but too much bend board starts to shake. When you stop, slow down and come to a stop and hop off with both feet. Bottom line, Practice makes perfect. You will bust your ass but you will learn from it.

The charge port doesn't need to be protected, and I think the best use of the cover is to prevent dirt from getting stuck in there and blocking you from plugging in the charger. I lost my charge port cover the second day I had my board and never replaced it. I currently have 1500 miles on my pint on and off road, in the city, in parks, at festivals, etc. I've even gotten caught in the rain a few times where the water running down the street was a good 6+ inches deep(first month I owned it got caught out and about when hurricane Laura hit). Good day fellow floater! Your learning curve was very close to mine, even though I picked the XR. I have skateboard experience and even with it, I found learning the onewheel still required a lot of practice. But after a month of having it, I have clocked in 587 Km on it at time of writing and I don't regret it one bit. Even with the steep price. (had to get a fender, as the rocks were pooling on the pads and going in unexpected puddles would make things quite messy). Rail guards are doing their job as well, they're scuffed but take the damage instead of the aluminum frame. I often go on hour-long rides, pushing 20+km in distance just because riding that thing is just so amazing! Thanks for sharing your experience, too! Be safe and keep on floating!

I couldn’t breathe properly for a while. Also since I used to skateboard I thought that I would learn to ride easy but that’s also a different learning process and be careful in the unpaved road you’ll fly off the board so easy. Anyways I don’t mean to discourage any one and I’m not sponsored either but the one wheel is still a lot of fun when you don’t chase the top speed! Be safe, God bless you all.

FEW BITS OF ADVICE 16:59 -lol just turn on the board, the motor will be engaged and the board will sit still Also, no time stamp needed for this one, buy some rail guards/sidekicks! While the sides of your board are made of metal, they will still get quite scratched up overtime. Also, that charge plug is extremely easy to lose. My advice is to just put two little pieces of scotch tape on the flat parts of the plug connecting to your rails, and it just makes me that much more confident when I take this thing somewhere. I’ve already lost one plug somehow. You may also want to consider reinforcing it every time. 8:50 your foot placement is fine, but your shoes are bad for this. From reddit, here’s Glyph8’s explanation on how the footpads work: Front sensor pad (there is no sensor on rear pad) works thus: If < 1 MPH, BOTH sides of pad need to sense pressure. If either left or right side senses no pressure, motor disengages (= the heel-lift stop). If > 1 MPH, ONLY left OR right side needs to sense pressure. This allows lifting heel OR toe when turning or carving. (You can also shift your heel or toe by sliding it rather than lifting it, like you‘re grinding out a cigarette with your shoe). If > 1 MPH and BOTH sides sense no pressure for > 1 second, motor disengages on assumption rider has fallen off (deadman's switch). The 1-second buffer is to allow for your foot leaving the pad briefly due to a jostle/bump/drop etc. without disengaging the motor. It also allows you to quickly shift your foot around. Thanks for reading, and protect yourself and the board!! Have fun :D
@viperaspec2 жыл бұрын
the reason the heel lift is more difficult is: lets say you want to stop and get off. you lift your front heel and your inclination is probably to then dismount your rear foot. at which point the self balancing is off and your front foot is likely to step back down. at which point you've engaged the wheel again and pressure is on the front which makes it go forward when you dont have both feet on the board

Okay you've convinced me on the padded motorcycle jacket. It's less of a hurdle to riding as far as putting on elbow pads, and it has the shoulders. Plus it can look a lot cooler. If I'm forced to ride in the sun, that's less skin that needs sunscreen, and UV rays also go through regular clothing. Then also just the general skin coverage to prevent grazes on areas that aren't like an elbow. After some research, you actually have the exact jacket I landed on. Except now they have a version 2 that I do definitely prefer. Then there's still other pads, too.

Thanks, sweet vid. Longtime rider tip: Create a couple Onewheel playlists and enjoy riding to your favorite tunes! I can barely ride now without good tunes.

A friend of mine has a Onewheel, so I thought I'd check out a video to see what they're all about. I didn't think I'd watch your whole video, but I did and found that you were informative, entertaining, and very open about your progress to learn how to ride your Onewheel. Well done!

I just found your video today. Looks like this video is 3 years old now. Well I was going to say, great job on the video ! You're very personable and it's almost comforting to watch an average dude learn something new, mistakes included . Thanks again and I look forward to checking your other videos. I hope they are just as good. Cheers. 😅

It was unbelievably easy to learn to ride! Around 50 miles the tire starts to soften, and it gets even earlier. If you know how to walk then you can ride a OneWheel.

I can definitely see how it would be harder for someone to learn that didn't grow up skateboarding, snowboarding or surfing. Even with boardsport experience, pads should be worn because accidents can happen to even advanced riders.

Pg 23 of the Pint manual: "Anyone can learn the basics in just five minutes." I dunno. I've put about three hours into my new Pint and I can barely wobble along 30 feet before losing my balance. It's definitely harder for some folks to learn than others.

It was 7 miles before I stopped killing myself. I have 185 miles on it now. I really love the thing but it took a while.

Not to toot my own horn but It wasn't hard at all for me to learn. From the very first moment I leaned forward I was doing circles around my block. I'm only leaving this comment for people who might be interested in buying one but fear they might not be able to pick it up. I have had it for a year now and I haven't fallen off of it but I also don't try to do tricks. I did skateboard a bit when I was really little, so maybe that had something to do with how fast I picked it up but I have had friends try it and they learned pretty quickly as well. If you have the money and are looking for an excuse to get outdoors but are struggling to find a reason to... this is 100% for you. If you are already pretty outdoorsy, this will just be something new to spice it up. Difficulty level 3 out of 10...

The quality, and effort into this video is amazing! When I first got a onewheel I had no idea about push back and completely went straight into the road shoulder first

You’re smart to pad up from the beginning. You will fall. After 3600 miles and several falls I’m starting to get smart and pad up. Everything hurts but I love the wheel. Stay back in your center. Also do some low flexing. You’ll get more stability and find your center easier.

I just got a GT and it was super easy to learn for me. Not sure if it's the GT or the all the years of snowboarding that made it so natural. It was also much easier once I changed the profile to the most aggressive mode. Is much easier to go faster than slower.

Hey. I ever and again come back to this film to explain how my first OW experience was - pretty similar. 🙂 Regarding the XR: I started with a Pint like you, and i found it rather hard. Probably mostly due to the rounded tyre. But my first 60 seconds were with an XR and i longed for that feeling. So i seized the opportunity to buy one second-hand (too) after some months. Now the Pint feels tiny and dangerous, a bit like a sports car. The XR is a cadillac. I also reached the battery limit of the Pint after a few months, 9km, just by going shopping in the industrial district. Screws and such. I had to walk the last 500m home. No drama, but i felt like still being in my early phase. Now my maximum so far is around 20km and something above an hour pure riding time. Max speed? 24km/h over short stretches, that's enough. I also learned to make "micro-gymnastics" to ride longer distances without foot and leg fatigue. Well, thanks for your video, it encouraged me to go onto this journey. It's an absolutely phantastic one. Are you still on it? I hope so. 🙂

I really enjoyed your video. I saw it even though I have been using my onewheel pint for over a month now. I completely agree on all your points. It isn't as easy as it looks in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it , it's sooooo much fun! Your video is top quality. Keep up the good work! I subscribed and look forward to seeing more from you. Take care :)

I'm amazed at myself, ha. My friend showed up to my place with one and I got on and rode it no problem first try. I was as amazed as him as I expect to get on and immediately fall off. I got on, drove about 50ft and slowed down and did a 180 turn super slow and drove back to my buddy and jumped off.

Thank you, advertise wants to make it look as if this thing is super simple to operate but you can see that it is not. I'm sure that eventually he'll get the hang of it. But if you think that you're getting on this thing and surf the city streets at 20mphs on your first try and buy and not get into an accident, you've been warned.

I started on a pint. 50 miles on my nephews. Brought an XR used and after 100+miles on it. I wouldn't dare by a pint. XR is much more stable and If you don't mind swinging hips... The XR is completely nimble.

Tried a buddies pint the other day for the first time. Starting and stopping took a little while to get used to. Once I got it, I quickly realized that even though I'm right foot dominant, I was super wobbly in a "regular" stance. I tried a "goofy" stance with my right foot first and the wobbliness disappeared.
