I started doing the cube in 1981 when I was in the military for 2 years in South Africa. I read about various ways to solve it and worked out my own way. Its like riding a bicycle and you never forget especially since you spend days and months solving it and playing with the cube. I had my cube with me 24/7. Up to this day I sometimes notice unsolved cubes anywhere I go and then I solve them and many people admit they never seen it being solved. It never gets old.

I started cubing last November 1, 2022. I average 15-18 secs now. This vid reminds me of my struggles and am actually glad to see how far I've come. It's hard when you solve one for the first time but it's actually really easy because you just learn like 5 algorithms. For the non cubers out there, no.. we dont calculate and do it intuitively, there are specific algorithms needed to perform in order to solve pieces Edit: As of July 2023, Im now averaging 11- 13 secs, im not consistent at it, sometimes i get more than 15 secs Edit: Sept 2023, I got 9.83 PB Edit: Feb 2024, I am purely 11-13s consistent (I took 2 months of break)

You guys are really impressive to do this so fast. I remember spending weeks messing around with the cube when I was a kid. I was lucky to have a few friends show me a little bit to get started. But they only knew how to solve one top color. I figured out how to solve more of it on my own, maybe a little more than 1/2 way. If the thing hadn't dissapeared on me, I might have learned to solve the whole cube.

Another cuber yay, usually when extracting cubing we learn the beginners method to more advanced solves. Than we start diving into beginer cfop (cross, f2l kr first 2 layers, orientation of the last layer, and the permutation of the last layer), instead and than after mastering the beginer cfop dive into the more advanced method by memorise all 57 oll algorithms, and 21 pll algorithms for every case you could get (making a total of 78 algorithms). I myself am not the best cubes and average around 31 seconds, while there are some speed cube who average 5-8 seconds. While the official world record is 3.47 seconds set by Yusheng Du. However there are covers who have gotten faster solves than this (one being Max Park, and various other famously known speed cubers) it is not recognized official unless its at a official rubiks cube competition (so we refer to them as PB's personal best, and PR's personal record, which the only difference is a PR is an official record, however some people look at this as the same thing which is ok in any situation). The rubik's cube itself is not hard to learn by itself, just learn the beginer method and your set, however if you want to gwt faster that's the hard part. And all it takes is practice, memorising the algorithm and pattern to use the algorithm, and muscle memory where just by looking at the cube you can tell you hands what to do without thinking of the exact algorithm because you've done it so much you just know how to do it. Than of course finger tricks help increase your speed at solving the cube significantly. It should also be noted that there is a rubik language to view algorithms we call rubik rotations where each error letter represents a motion of the cube. It's really not to hard to learn (if you can play an instrument the concept is basically the exact same as cubing). Than speed cubes have developed a more advanced methods they like to use to solve the cube such as look ahead. Please if you want to start speed cubing I recommend buying a speed cube instead of a rubiks brand, it's entire design is to improve your speed, and it's alot more easier to move, they come from non-magnetic to magnetic, stickerless to stickered (i recommend a stickerless cube that way the stickers won't peel off after long periods of use), than we get into the more expensive cube such as the Gan cubes which are essentially the IPhone version of a rubik's cube, defiantly top market and expensive and each year they make a new cube which may or may not be better than the last but like iPhone we all have preferences, the newest Gan is the Gan 13 MaglevFX (if you have no idea what I just said that ok) Maglev means magnetic levitation because the core of the cube is built on it along with the pieces to improve turning skills, the FX are fixed magnetics because the Gan 13 Maglev (last years cube) was how you would say way to fast and not very stable for the average cuber. But than again it's all about preference and what you like when cubing, those cubes can cost to $80 or more depending on the quality, however there are cheaper cubes out there that are just as good and even better depending on you and how you use the cube (like from harry potter with wands, there's a wand for each wizard not all of them might be right for thr right wizard but one that fits you). I hoped this brief into into 3 by 3 cubing helped anyone who is scrolling in the comment sections. It's really not that complicated however it does get more advanced the deeper you go in and the better you'll understand it.

Actually the difficulty of learning to solve depends in the method you try to learn or were taught i learned and was taught cubing using an easier method so i learned it in 30 minutes then tried switching to more difficult but faster methods which worked out better because it downed my time from around 1 minute to 30-45 seconds

as a cuber this made cubing look really hard, but I ASSURE YOU, its really easy, even from a non cuber perspective, what i recommend doing is following a youtube tutorial that you think is the easiest, i recommend CubeHead, so solve it from the tutorial, and then after a bit solve it on your own, then when you get stuck, just watch the same part on the tutorial! and keep repeating this till you can solve the rubiks cube on your own, then you can start timing it, but remember, just watch the tutorial if you get stuck on a step, its very simple people!
