I Left America For The Philippines To Live A Simple Life Did I Make The Right Decision?

I came to the Philippines from America to live a simple life. It's quiet here and I'm away from the drama back home. There's not a lot of nightlife here in San Carlos City and I like it like that. The crime is low and so is my stress. One piece of advice that I will give you is to slow down and avoid making any big decisions once you get here. Buying property, having children, getting married etc. is not something you want to rush into. Thanks for watching!

As somebody who was born in Cebu, came to the U.S. as a teen i was finally able to go back home in 2019. Coming back for the first time in 30 years it still felt like home. I'm now currently getting my dual citizenship filled and planning to get a house built with a lot. I'm done here in the U.S. with the rat race. All we do here is work to pay the bills and still be broke. I want an easy life, just like the my fellow Pinoy back home. THANK FOR YOUR videos Calvin, it makes me realize the American dream isn't really for everyone.... And it's definitely not for me.

Been in Negros Occidental for 6 months now, retired resident. Loving the slow, simple province life. 200 yards from a gorgeous public beach, swim a lot. Just bought my lady and I mountain bikes, already getting great use out of them. Total 180 from the big city rat race working life I left in the US. Very happy with my life change...the adventure is wonderful! God bless you, Calvin.

Now that I’m close to my senior age, I worry about who will look after me even if I have kids. I mean friendly people around who will treat me with compassion, and that my friend you will see that in Phils., when even neighbors will be there for you with or without money. Sharing your experience is a great service to many. I am retiring to kenya which has a different culture, but as a developing country has many similarities. I am moving to kenya married to a Kenyan lady, as our country (the U.S.) has to many negatives for us now. I follow you with great enthusiasm wishing you God's blessings. I am moving to the Kenyan country side with the same vision of a simple life. But I've told my wife the only material thing I require is to build a swimming pool, Along with our house.

Yeah Bro Calvin, this a beautiful stream. You touch base on something I love; A simple lifestyle. Although I spent a great deal of my life in city lifestyle, I really love the tranquility of the retreats. I moved into a city in the West Midlands UK, but nothing strikes me like the English Countrysides. I love the sprawling green hills, the quietness, the simplicity, the almost zero crime atmosphere and ofcourse the tranquility. I love my new home country, the UK 🇬🇧. I really agree with what you're saying. I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia and just watching the local news on any given day, the first 15 minutes is all about shootings, killings, robberies, kidnappings and other forms of violence. Every single day! When you're not dealing with that, there's the loud bumping rap music rattling your windows by these nitwits who need to impress the whole neighborhood with how loud they can be. When it's not that, it's the street racers. There was a triple shooting resulting in three deaths in the house right next door to mine...and I live in what normally is a middleclass, HOA controlled subdivision! Then you turn on the TV and what do you see...mass shootings, political nonsense, people fighting over everything under the sun. I'd love to move to some place where my biggest concern for the day is what's for lunch. You've truly found paradise over there! The US really kinda sucks to be honest.

Great advice my friend! Too many of us are still stuck in the trying to impress with material things that really don't matter to the people in The Philippines. It's hard for some of us to realize that the real-life things ie.. food on the table a simple night out maybe a short inexpensive vacation to some place that they've never had a chance to see. Those are the things that makes them happy. Keep doing what you do my friend!

You said it my friend. I was surprised when I moved to USA people are talking of how great their vacation in a cruise, in Disneyland, in Las Vegas etc. They all don't talk about how broke they are when they come back. As what you said Many Filipinos especially in the country side don't do that kind of thing. We are busy at work in school, in the farm, in our jobs etc. At the end of the week we have time with our family to go to the beach, seaside cook some barbecue or do karaoke. We may have no money but we have simple happiness. We don't need that expensive vacation and end up broke. Majority of our houses are paid off, many don't have credit cards, we don't even know what it is, just a piece of card we call 5/6. We pay taxes but if you can't pay it this year just pay the following year with some interest of course.

Having to work as a Lounge singer and Kareoke Club singer was far more different from the life I’ve made for myself. Norwood is a very small town in North Carolina and it is pretty much similar to that place where you are living now, and so I perfectly understand what you are saying. I guess, we’re both burned out from living a chaotic and expensive City life. I am glad that you found your special place in my country. I have been here on Cebu for 7 monhts in Lapu Lapu in a condo near the airport and now building a town house in Liloan on the northern beaches area it is lively but my gated communtiry is 24/7 seciroty giarded and peaceful with only 50 town houses in a bit of a sawnk area in Yagti Barabgay so have access to the mall beach and resort and the province and mountains at our door step.. I have a simple life and a good girl to look after me she is loving and sweet to me and I am happy with my life and lifestyle that I could only dream of back in Australia as an age pensioner the life back there was punishingly diffiuclt and here in Pinas I am comnforatable and can save money cos life here is cheaper we buy our friut and veg at the public maeket and of course transprtt here is so cheap and easy to use out of peak times and we can go just about anyhwere in the metro area for less than 400 peso or 50 perso on Jeepnie hehehe try doing that in the west huh? I love Cebu and the people here are happy and friendly with a smile from most and people are interested in me as a foreginer it arouses curiositry and a lot of questions from lovely people...who could ask for mere?

Thanks for sharing, but I wish that the Philippines has good health care. That's the only thing that is holding us back from retiring in the Philippines. Hospital bills can make you broke.

Addicted to this channel 💯. Simple Life I Like 😉. Three deal breakers though.. 1. If I become a permanent resident, can I own the land? 2. If I have dual citizenship, can I own land? 3. If I become a permanent resident of the philippines, can I still be a citizen of the United States and collect Social security benefits?

A permanent resident is just one step to becoming a Filipino citizen. Go for citizenship so that you can also vote in the elections and run for public office.

I know of some KZbinrs who became Filipino citizens because they helped the Philippine Tourism Industry simply by vlogging positively about tourist sites here.

Alway love your "matter of fact" words and today you made me laugh out loud when you said, "No balls, no blue chips". I haven't heard that phrase in forever and it is sooooooooo appropriate. As a matter of fact, I've used that phrase myself and I don't think I ever heard another person use it. You're the real deal Calvin.

Thanks for sharing Sir. I'm happy you find peace, quiet, simple life in the Philippines. I'm Pinoy and have the same thoughts. Our brains have been brainwashed about the greener pasture on the other side of the fence. For 35 years I was gone that green pasture is actually a hell of a pasture. It eats you in the end. I came to terms to my soul that the greener pasture that I was looking for was just behind our backyard. Great job Joe. No worries we call every American Joe's kind of the many American service men that liberated our country. We don't know their names. We just got the hang of calling everyone Joe. Enjoy your life there. Peace and quiet and Family the most important. They're there for better or worst. Your island I believe San Carlos city is in Negros Island next to mine in Panay. The island is just a place in honor of our ancestors who are also Black. KKK is a movement that started the call of independence from Spain. Just for everyone's to know. It has no Racial meaning to us. We don't do what white people do in USA. Thank you again. You're blessed with the family and the place you have now. God bless Calvin.

Hi sunshine shoulders love your videos. I grew up in South Carolina and I'm used to the slow life. I born in New York but raised in the south. The Philippines is just like the South It quite and peaceful. Love the serenity. Yes you are right the states are getting bad time for this brother to leave and live the good life. I got 5 years before retirement and I gone. Once again love video you speak the truth and God bless.
