I like how you shoot these beautiful black folks with the Lumix. Skin tones look great. I have the Sony A7iv and I love it but I was thinking of switching to the S5IIx because I used to rock with the GH4 back in the day and love the color science. I have the Blackmagic 6k and that's my favorite look but tired of having to rig that hoe up every time. Lot to think about.

LUMIX has some damn good cameras but you are def right about the criticisms. Feel like they are very slow to release new stuff (that their core base wants) compared to the competition. Thought the S1 II or S1H II would have been here by now and the fact that they are split between Micro four thirds and full frame with no room for growth doesn’t seem like a great move. Sony you can start with an a6000 and gradually go up to an FX6, FX9 or Burano, same with Canon you can start with an R100 and go all the way up to a C80 or a C400. I’m still using an S5II and enjoy the camera more than my past Sony cameras but long term idk feel like they aren’t providing enough confidence in the S line specifically for pros and enthusiasts. Feel like they need to step up their processors too. Don’t want LUMIX to just be a novelty brand.

We gang gang no matter what. In this current era of cameras.. we all have multiple needs and there’s not really just one camera that does it all. I like Sonys cause they’re work horse cameras that just get the job done but have almost zero features that speak to my artistic side. Nikon is doing some wild wild stuff rn, but similar to Sony, no open gate or features like lumix offers.. Lumix cameras are the only full frame open gate offerings with AF.. and full anamorphic support. So they win big for that and all their other almost cinema camera like features. But if any other company started to put all those features into their cameras.. lumix is gonna have to bring the heat. At the end of the day, I sadly have to operate multiple systems cause I do too much 💩 and they all require a different tool.

I feel you bro as your work and your journey speaks for itself...I don't use open gate or anamorphic so it's not that important to me. I will miss the image stabilization and the reliability in video but...My needs have changed and the features that it need aren't in Lumix cameras as of now.

To be fair canon just put c log 2 in a mirrorless camera, R5ii. Everything else has been. Clog 3. Plus the overheating, battery life issues they had in the R5 and R6 was major issues. Lumix s5iix made me look at Panasonic over other brands. I’m video first and I can’t find anything that matches it outside of a cinema body. If Nikon decides to add waveforms and open gate in the z6iii I may look that way. Sony doesn’t do internal raw but they have everything else you would want.

I don't know what is your shooting style, but I would recommend to only get 1 or 2 autofocus lens for whatever system you have and all other lenses go for EF or PL lenses, so you dont get as stuck into 1 system again. I was in one small camera store and one of the guys said Panasonic is a hard company to do business with. If you want to carry Panasonic you have to order all the models. He did say Olympus is better to do business with and they can't order one or two models for the store. This was maybe six or seven years ago. Pioneer is another company I heard that is a pain to deal with. Back in the day I use to go to this Laser Disc store before DVD's came out as a kid. And I was asking the owner why don't you sell a few more models of Pioneer Laser Disc he said something like Pioneer wants you to order everything from them. I think he had one model and a few Pioneer speakers. I guess they gave him a break one time. These companies with this mindset I don't think are very smart. One time I went into a very small camera store and I think that store only have Canon and Sony cameras the SLT cameras this might have been 2016.

Same thing at my local camera store said Panasonic is very difficult to work with.

@@JosephAirborne The other thing I don't like about Panasonic a lot of their cameras are buggy. GH2 banding issue at ISO 640 very hard to see but at ISO 800 and above very easy to see. Also their is a white balance shift to a very strong green so you have to play with the white balance and try and compensate for the shift. Panasonic GH4 there is a audio drift issue after about a minute or two. Panasonic GH6 there is a issue filming a window that is bright that the GH5 did not have. Panasonic G9 a real estate photographer found at ISO 200 lifting the shadows blacks turn to purple. The real estate photographer was lifting the blacks on a black couch. The fix is to use ISO 100. Panasonic S5ii and S5iiX there is a really bad lag with the electronic shutter some wildlife photographers about a 0.3 or 0.5 lag. Google S5II Electronic Shutter (30fps) Delay there is a video there to watch. Panasonic said that's the way it is. Because now they can't fix it. I think Olympus and OM Systems are better then Panasonic. I do own the Olympus OMD E-M1ii. Never used Leica but I hope they are less buggy than Panasonic.

Unless Lumix is giving you money, have no loyalty! And that means no loyalty to any of these brands. Rock out with what makes capturing content easiest and gives you the visuals you aspire to share. Have no loyalty goes towards everything, shoes, clothes, cars, airlines, etc. It's all based around consumerism and we vote with our dollars. Sony, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, even OM-Systems, each offer something for someone at various price points. Find what makes YOU happy and rep THAT gang! And if they make you unhappy, don't be pressed- just be out and onto the next. I started in film with Minolta (film), moved to Nikon (film), then Canon (digital) switched to Panasonic real quick and now I'm sitting in Sony's camp using their flagship and I'm super content. Of course, all of this is over the course of 25+ years so I don't want you to think I'm a madman but what I am doing is sharing based on experience- you've gotta go with what works for you and makes your work shine. Right now for me, it's Sony. And I'm willing to bet it'll be Sony for you as well. Best of luck switching gangs :)

Notta lumix shooter anymore. Started with a g7 then moved to the canon rp now shooting on the r5c. And on a spec point I feel like there’s a lot of things that Lumix is doing right. Like I’ve considered buying a s5iix I was a primarily county shooter. Because if you compare Lumix to Sony Canon Nikon, they’re the only manufacturer that gives you shutter angle open gate recording recording to an external SSD. All features that I wish other companies would put in their products not this point the only thing you’re missing I feel is a camera with a very sensitive sensor like 12,800 ISO

Get the right tool for the job... if your present camera is not getting it done, get rid of it. It's just that simple. No amount of marketing or perception of an ecosystem will let you know if another camera will work for you. It's going to take a little trial and error... GOOD LUCK!

I don't blame you brother, stay at the top, but then the top is ARRI, lol... Can't wait to see you there, and YES YOU CAN. On the side of Lumix: The thing about giving Lumix up is: STONEWALL RELIABLITY... If you're in certain genres ie.. Weddings, un-repeatable events, you would be HARD pressed to find any other Camera system that won't EVER over heat, keep color fidelity throughout the iso range etc. I still have ONE of my GH5s and it won't EVER leave my dead cold hands, LOL. Why? Because it never fails, AND has a very long battery life, and it just so happens to produce great results. But you're RIGHT, Lumix been BULLSHITTIN with the AF, and now everyone else has closed the gap on Lumix's 10-bit and 4k no-crops. Problem with the S-series is: NO LENSES. And that my friend, is a gap they will NEVER close. Any modern filmmaker[I hate that term], is going to own at LEAST one Sony these days. It's actually a SURPRISE that Lumix was able to catch Sony SLEEPING in 2017, well, CLEARLY, Sony said bump that, we will Run Lumix over, and HAS. Caveat is this: Price Point - No one does what Lumix does FOR THE PRICE.
@Bigcookfilms18 күн бұрын
You're right about reliability in video I thought about this before I sold my lumix camera and I'm thinking about getting a GH5 for nostalgic purposes. I don't really record long form content (I just finished my contract with a podcast) so I'm good with my decision moving forward.
