@@tinasan3870 I agree about the cigarette smoking for sure. As far as being overweight is concerned, I think that celebrities in Hollywood and elsewhere today are not plagued with obesity for the most part. That is because they can afford the expense food. Remember that back then we didn't have all the unhealthy additives in our food that we do today. People who are in the middle and lower socio economic category can only afford the cheap food which causes weight gain. Just go to your local grocery store and read the ingredients, and you will find that the most affordable food is junk food.

I actually find this to be an interesting comment. Do you mean to say that when the actors were paid less, they were better people?
@tonylani20152 күн бұрын
@ it means it was an industry where you had disciplined actors making an income that they felt was justified. That’s why they behaved more like regular people. Today, you have overpaid actors that their agents negotiating their salary who on many levels, performers don’t feel that they warrant their salaries. hence them acting more spoiled and aloof. Many of the performers are not as likable and friendly to their fans in my opinion for that very reason. The same thing applies to musical artists and bands in the past, as opposed to many of the recording artist today. They don’t have the same craft. The older ones seem more justified as to why they’re getting paid what they got paid. Many of the performers and artists today don’t feel they deserve it. That’s why they’re not as friendly to their fans.
@NashaDean2 күн бұрын
@tonylani2015 I suppose that could be a contributing factor, yes. But honestly I think the real issue is the issue of celebrity. That seems to go to people’s heads. I don’t know what it was like back in the old days, so I can’t say it was different then. I was born over 2 decades after this footage was filmed. But it seems like people were more level headed back then and didn’t let fame go to their heads all that often. That’s not to say it didn’t still happen because it absolutely did. There were plenty of divas back in that day, but they seem as tho they were more rare than they are now. I also think society’s perception of celebrities has caused them to become more big headed than they were back then. But that’s only an assumption on my part.

German here, hailing from France. Loved the footage. Read both books by David Niven from a far earlier era than the one shown here, not quite though; as David related plenty of details of young Lauren Bacall and Bogey. During my 8-month sabbatical in L.A., I biked at least ten times from K-Town all along Mulholland Drive, including the dirt road section to enter Topanga Canyon (Sharon Tate) and eventually reach the beach and Hwy 1. Also biked alongside the beach houses of Malibu. In my humble role as a scientist, I know for a fact that nothing lasts. Entropy eats all of us up, including our belongings. Those neighbourhoods full of history, gaieté, and affluence. All up in smoke. The sun's energy re-released from its caged form, the homes, CO2 and water and mineral particles; that's all that's left of these neighbourhoods. Most C is absorbed again by other living things half a world away; other CO2 and water molecules from these homes even escape into space. These few individuals are remembered, like Mozart is; almost all of us fall into total oblivion, once departed.

The Doors would form in a few months. My birth was in Sept. The #1 song that wk of May 16th was 'Ticket to Ride.'

It's evident by the footage, Malibu has always been one of beauty, danger and loss. I'm loving this presentation!

I love this. Thanks for posting it. I hope it’s still there after the horrendous fires. My dear friend lost his home in Malibu. So sad. Sending ❤ to all affected. ❤❤❤❤❤

So far the house is safe! Sending vibes to the universe it remains as such! And yes the fires were a huge reason why I wanted to post this. I felt the nostalgia would be a pick me up everyone. These fires have had me down in the dumps too. Glad it’s helped bring some joy to everyone during these sad days. I too am sending love too all affected. 🫶🏻

The year I was born. Thank you for this. I'm in deep pain for my L.A. peeps. Having lived thru Katrina, I've been very triggered by much of what I'm seeing. This coming to me now is spiritual kismet and most needed. Much love from Nola. ❤

Excellent music choice for a soundtrack! 🫡😀. (Probably should not watch too much of this....Not sure my heart can handle such an attack of nostalgia! I wasn't even there or knew these people other than what I saw of them in movies some years later, but I can "feel" this as if I was actually there....Can almost smell the Coppertone, the cigarettes the matches and Zippo lighters to light them with,and the BBQ in the air combined with the smell of the sea!!

Right? Roddy’s footage is definitely immersive. I too get the feeling that I was personally there, even tho my parents weren’t even born yet! That’s one reason I chose the title “I left my heart at Roddy’s Beach House.” In many ways, just watching this footage, I absolutely did.

I love this!! Celebrities are people too! No glitz, no glamour…just friends mingling!! Look how happy and content they were!! I wish I knew who everyone was! I recognize quite a few!! Who was the shirtless, tall, dark & handsome playing volleyball?! 😉 September 12th, 1965…I wasn’t born yet! So many actors today resemble many actors in this video…I’d have to replay & then tell you! On resembled Nicolas Cage, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc etc

That was Ed Rosenthal! It’s speculated that he was Roddy’s housemate but we have no information to confirm or deny that.

This is cool from the beginning I see Jane Fonda, Alex Cord who was married to Joanna Pettet, director Mike Nichols, Jack Lemon, Tuesday Weld, Anthony Perkins, Natalie Wood looking fab in her shades, Rock Hudson, Judy Garland, so many more it’s like playing Eye Spy with celebrities. The attire those days was hip and cool. I was only a kid but remember that era. I dig the alcohol of choice was Schiltz Beer. It leaves you with nostalgia.

McDowell's cottage was part of a small Malibu community of maybe 10 or so longish narrow cottages right next to each other just off the main drag - & they may still be there. The woman in the iconic 1964 Ford station wagon is, of course, Julie Andrews along with her daughter. Back then vehicular seat belts were not mandatory but an option you paid extra for. It's my understanding these soiree's were Sunday afternoon affairs thrown by McDowell on the only day of the week these working film stars had off and to themselves. This film is a series of shorter ones produced over the course of that summer pieced together & they show you how well liked & highly regarded Roddy McDowell was by his fellow A-list actors.
