Great adventure! I was in Siem Reap in 2016, wonderful experience! Angkor Wat was $20 US so the increase seems to be a small amount. Everyone should see it at least once! Cambodia is another foodie paradise for the taking! Played a golf course close to town that was out in the rice fields. The Bomb disposal unit was near by doing a sweep, which made me very uncomfortable! So much unexploded ordnance, from the war, still abounds throughout Cambodia, very sad!

Poipet was like the Wild West back in the day. First time travelling from Thailand to Cambodia, my friend and I thought we were already in Cambodia, in that casino area of Poipet. We were playing in the casinos and came out to leave and head to Siem Reap… Passport control for Cambodia was closed and we were not stamped in yet 🤦♂️ all the rooms in the casino hotel were full and we had to stay in the workers hotel 🤣 We got the strangest looks and biker gang flashed their guns at us as we walked to the room. Cambodian immigration fleeced us because they had to roll back the stamp to the previous day. Walked into Cambodia and then came more madness… Mothers throwing their children at us, telling us to take them. We just charged through and kept walking, followed by a gang of taxi drivers. We kept walking until there was only 1 of the 10 drivers who were originally following us… Deciding if he tried anything dodgy, we could take him 😅 He drove and stopped just before we got to Siem Reap and we thought, here we go… Switched us to the loveliest guy with a rickety old tuk took, carriage made of wood. He ended up being our driver every day for a week, $8 a day was his fee. We gave him a good tip at the end of the week and headed to Phnom Penh. Our tuk tuk driver there, again stayed with us for a week. Took us in the mountains to shoot machine guns and rockets at propane tanks… And we went to his sisters wedding 😂😅. Love Cambodians! But it was a very different place 15/20 years ago.

Giant water bug or 'Maeng Da' was what she found. They are edible and can be cooked and eaten individually or pounded with a pestle and mortar and added to curry type dishes. We sometimes hunt them up here in Nakhon Ratchasima. The males contain a certain flavour that makes them more valuable. Typically, females sell for 5 baht and males for 10-15 baht. In the tourist areas of Bangkok bug sellers charge upwards of 50 baht for one already cooked.

Hello Lucas! Yep. I went to this crossing to get my Thai visa renewed and a guy tried to take my visa to "help me" for a mere 2500 Bhat. I snatched it back and walked into the Thai offices and paid a few hundred Bhat (I think it was 200) and after some back and forth between the Cambodian guards and the Thai Guards and buying a very nice, very pregnant Thai guard a large Green Tea Soi Latte I got my new Thai stamp. I did pay my driver 3000 Bhat to drive me there and back plus a lunch at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in one of the truck stops but it was all worth it and instead of a 12000 Bhat Bus trip they sell on one of those Ocean Road travel agencies in Pattaya I paid my driver 3000 plus a lunch and the visa fee to show I had left Thailand and entered Cambodia and then back again. Some funny moments walking back and forth between to the two border crossings and made some friends at the border. It was quite a day!

LOL I love how your GF just picks that bug up whereas if it was me I'd be running to the other side of the street. I have entered Cambodia around 20 times in the past 6 years. The single entry "T" type tourist visa is indeed $30. Sometimes they ask for a passport sized photo, and if you don't have one they'll try to charge a few extra bucks. There's a "E" type "Business" visa for $35 that's for those wanting to stay beyond 60 days (the "T" can be extended once only, for an additional 30). The price of admission to Angkor Wat was over doubled a few years back, there was a bit of an uproar about it at the time.

I don't remember what i paid when for the visa when i did go there by plane from Bkk but it remember that example the Airport transfer did come to pick me up. When you go back to thailand, try ask the thai passport control if it is possible to deposit your passport instead of a visa for the next time. When i did go to Myanmar, I did buy a visa for 1000+ THB even if i just did go over the border and only for 2-3 days. When i came back to thailand, they told me that i am stupid to pay the 1000+THB. I could have deposited my passport on the thai side of the border and paid only 200THB, they give you a temporary passport that you use in Myanmar and when you go back, you pick up your original passport. Naturally this implies that you have to go back the same way you did go there but you will do that anyway. Maybe it is possible to do the same with cambodia. Well, maybe we cross each others in Pattaya next week.
