Ive found if they actually have some handiness skills or like handiness they will autonomously fix things. Also if they have logic skill they tend to do more things autonomously. If they have zero skills though in a lot of stuff they just won't attempt it. It's like it's locked behind a 'first time' type thing and they can't do it until they've done it at least once first.

Exactly this, when I play with my sims version of myself, I always make myself an artist. After u sell the first few paintings, she will begin autonomously making and selling paintings, which is actually a little annoying because I like some of the lower level paintings and want to keep them , so I have to cancel it in time. But she doesn’t autonomously repair items or do much outside of the routine I gave her, which makes sense.

If you want them to autonomously repair and clean things, I found the best way is to use the club system from Get Together. Put the entire family in a "club" and have the activities be repair broken items, clean, and take care of children. Then just start the gathering and never end it. As far as bill paying, I don't think sims will ever autonomously do that, that I'm aware of. I think the only way to do that is to set bills to autopay in MCCC.

I always enable MCCC's autonomus repair so that they don't do that stupid thing where the mop or try to clean the toilet when it's broken

@@calebmiller7910 if you open the MCCC settings on the computer, you'll find "autonomy behaviour" under MC tuner (at the bottom of the list). There you can enable or disable several types of autonomous actions, such as enabling autonomous proposals, disable random flirting, autonomous weddings, mean interactions and so on. Very handy

There is a mod that allows Sims to autonomously repair objects. Whenever I give my Sims free will (I once actually made a Sim whose name was 'Will Free'), I gave one of them the neat trait and the Family Orientated trait, and made them like cooking, gardening and painting - That way I feel I'm giving them a good chance to take care of the house and family. I tend to make their partner the breadwinner while the other's a homebody, and the toddlers I give the independent traits as well as a high chair, potty, and both them and kids get skill-building toys.

The stress of the mess was getting to me! I'm curious if things would be different if they started with a trash can or had different level skills? Like do Sims who have skill in handiness autonomously fix things? I'm not sure. Though I'm surprised about the laundry because my Sims are usually good with doing the laundry on their own.

I really dislike how often things break in the Sims 4. If I have a big house, appliances and electronics are just breaking constantly. I’m fine with it happening once in a while, but several things breaking each day is ridiculous.

I don't think they autonomously repair stuff unless you have the autonomous repair mod, yeah I think there's a mod just for that, and the autonomous bill pay is also a mod, also there's a children can clean and a children can repair stuff mod, maybe try this same experiment in the future but with the autonomous mods to see how differently things turn out.

You should retry this with specific traits and likes that will alter the difficulty. I think someone who likes handiness may fix things? But someone who is a slob is obviously gonna make things harder whereas a neat sim will help and independent toddler

I haven't played the sims in a VERY long while, but one thing that always baffled me is that you cannot assign a bedroom / bed to individual sims in a household. Not sure if it is a thing these days, but that always annoyed me back in the day😄

You might have autonomous repairs turned off. If so, they won't fix things. Other autonomous things can be turned off or on. No doubt someone has made a list somewhere.
