Wow girl, if you're sold on Cradle, especially if you enjoy Dani's vocal style, then you have alot to catch up on. Like... I mean..... ALOT. We're talking 3 decades worth of Cradle of Filth magic and I tell ya - if you're impressed with Dani's vocals now when he is pretty much 50, wait till you hear him when he was younger

Cradle of Filth is one of the most outstanding bands of extreme music. What he created in the years 1994-2000 is a masterpiece. I remember stayed up all night before my college exam listening to their new album Cruelty and the Beast (a concept album about Bloody Countess Elizabeth Bathory). Lots and lots of great music and outstanding lyrics. It cannot be described, you have to listen to it. :)

Dani Filth doesn't often get the credit he deserves because Cradle really straddles the line between Black Metal/Symphonic/Commercial and people who love each of those hate that Cradle only dips a toe into each and doesn't fully commit to any of them (not kvlt enough for the black metal folks, not breezy enough for the symphonic folks, etc). Meanwhile, Dani has been writing some of THE most epic gothic poetry for the last 30 years. Seriously read the lyrics to any Cradle song. They're straight up epic poetry in the literal sense of the term with literary devices, various acts, etc. I know a lot of metal heads don't care about the lyrics, but no one in metal writes like this band. If you listen to another Cradle song, Her Ghost In The Fog is an absolute must.

It's hard to recommend just one song to start with. My go-to is From the Cradle to Enslave, but Her Ghost in the Fog is a close second. Nymphetamine is also very approachable to non-metalheads. My mom loves it lmao.

I've seen this band twice. I saw them for their Dusk And Her Embrace and Midian tours. Both times were in very small venues where the front barrier is about an arms reach away from the stage. It was absolutely phenomenal both times.

There's a great British computer nerd television comedy called the IT Crowd. One of the characters on the show, Richmond, is a goth nerd who is discovered one day to be living in a room behind a red door in the company's IT Department. He is a sweet, albeit weird guy who is given to bouts of dark poetry. His favorite band is Cradle of Filth. He treats their music like a religion. He is often heard suggesting COF songs and lyrics in a misguided effort to comfort people. At one point, much to the boss's consternation, he offers a COF album to the boss's widowed mother at the funeral of her husband and suggests she listen to the song "Coffin Fodder" to help her deal with her grief. The band loved the character and have talked about it in interviews. That's where I first heard of the band

If you're gonna do a deep dive in Cradle, I highly recommend some of their classic material. It had a magical atmosphere that simply isn't captured by modern Cradle or basically any other band IMO. Try: 1 - Queen of Winter, Throned (Live in Nottingham 2001) 2 - Haunted Shores (Virtual Live 2022) 3 - Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids (Live in Nottingham 2001) 4 - Bathory Aria (Studio) 5 - Cthulhu Dawn (Live in Nottingham 2001) Listed in order of album release: 1996, 1996, 1998, 1998, 2000

Cradle are a mix of just about every style of metal. They have the speed and aggression of thrash with the riffs of death metal then they have the atmosphere of symphonic metal with the lyrics of Shakespeare and look of black metal. And Danis vocal range is over 5 octaves.

Cradle is much more than extreme metal but they are also very difficult to put into a sub genre. It’s just the easiest way to explain them. They started out as a death metal band, transitioned to black metal and added a more theatrical, gothic style to it that made them what they are. But I wouldn’t consider them black metal anymore. Regardless of that they are one of the most underrated metal bands in my opinion even though they do have quite the fan base. Having been around for 30 years, everything they’ve made has something for everyone within the metal community.

I started following you recently and I enjoy every moment! you have a captivating personality and what you are referring to in the music is very smart and I just love it... you make me fall in love with metal again and im listening to metal since 2004 when I was 11 :D Cradle of Filth is one of the first bands I listened to and they hold a special place in my heart but this song is not very representative... They are considered to be a symphonic black metal with goth influences. I recommend more songs from Cruelty and the beast and if you want to listen to full albums I would say Domination and a Day is a great concept album and also Midian is a very good album (although considered to be a more commercial version of them... where they started to drift apart from black metal and deal more with their gothic - symphonic aspect). On another topic.... if you can :D I would like to hear your comment on a band called Melechesh, they are doing what they called mesopotamian black metal which is black metal with oriental music and they are doing a very good job at it and their history is insane (they started in Israel in Beit Lehem and they are Palestinian Christians' they were blamed for Satanic rituals and flee the country and now they are stationed in Amsterdam. They consider to be a pioneer band in the mesopotamian black metal along with Salem and Arallu - both Israeli metal bands) I organised their albums by most recommended to start with to the least, mostly because their first two albums were harsh as hell and the rest are more catchy and instrumental: Emissaries Sphynx (their commercial breakthrough) The Epigenesis Enki Djinn (my personally fevorate but it is a bit raw) As Jerusalem Burns...Al'Intisar (my least favorite but its their first and very interesting) If you like them I recommend you to listen to Arallu (En Olam is my personal favourite) and Salem (Kaddish, and my favourite is Necessary Evil)

This sounds like one of them. Donny Burbage and Zoe Marie Federoff are in the band now and they also have insane writing chops. Expect more good stuff in the future.

Nymphetamine is massively overrated, and I'm really bored of Her Ghost in the Fog at this point. I guess if she does Her Ghost it's gotta be the full studio version or a live video though, not the music video which is cut and ruins the climax. Babylon AD is a banger. So is An Enemy Led the Tempest and Thank God For The Suffering from the Damnation and a Day album.

Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir were my gateways into black metal when I was 14. Some of the metal diehards hate on them, but it's undeniable both bands introduced an entirely new fanbase to this style of music and made it as popular as it's ever going to be. My favorite COF album is Midian, which is partly due to me being a Clive Barker fan and that album being so heavily influenced by Barker's work.

As good as Dani still sounds, he can't scream like he used to, especially on their second album, he just can't scream like that anymore. If you like the mix of the music + vocals + the choir, I HIGHLY suggest their song "Wester Vespertine"

Please check out The Empyrean by John Frusciante. RHCP is cool... but the real piece of art is this solo album by John and I have no ideia why it's so underrated. Pleeeeeease make a video about this album, I bet you will cry listening to it.

Cradle of Filth is technically symphonic black metal. A better introduction would have been Midian, though.

They (well... Dany) like the band to be called extreme metal, definitely not anything "core" related.

I think Dani Filth is good but I like King Diamond much more. My favorite Cradle of Filth albums are Cruelty and the Beast and Midian.

hear theri old stuff... Dark Faerytales in Phallustein or dusk and her embrace... best ... this is nothing more for me too experimental and the pure hate and agresssion of the old chants from dani are lost forever...so sad

You think this is good?... then you've heard nothing compared to early Cradle Of Filth... I'm gonna be honest with you, new Cradle stuff has nothing on the old stuff they did... please check out Haunted Shores from the 1996 Dusk And Her Embrace album... you'll see what i mean... you'll be shocked on how different and much better they were back then.
