Chandler is a treat to savor! I dread the day when I can say I've read my way through all his work lol

Thank you for your kind words! It feels right to me that there be a little breathing room at the end of the story to let it set, and I am glad to hear that it worked for you!

Takes me back to old Los Angeles & those art deco buildings on Rossmore that winds between Melrose & Wilshire..

Well selected story, James. The setting, the coloring, and the tone of the story had me every minute. Without your read of it, I would have passed and missed a gem. Instead of skipping, I subscribed and will tell my friends. Well done.

I grew up in LA in the early 40s

I've only ever visited LA in the 21st century, but it feels like there is still a lot of what Chandler wrote about, and it's alive and well in it's own way.

Very understated. Is this from a book of short stories?
@arealhumanvoice Жыл бұрын
This was originally published in the Saturday Evening Post, of all places, and I believe it's Chandler's only short story published outside of the pulps (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!)

I seem to recall this inspired a movie but I can't remember it's title
@arealhumanvoice Жыл бұрын
I would seek out that movie and watch it! It would be hard to beat Chandler's writing, though...

Does anyone know where the guitar music is from?
@arealhumanvoice5 күн бұрын
Yes! It's called New Orleans Chills, and it's by Style Da Kid. I got it from StoryBlocks, but here's a link to his KZbin channel: www.youtube.com/@StyledaKidTV Thank you for asking!

@@alexdavies7394 yeah, you're right, it's not on his KZbin channel. Here is the link to the song itself, but it's licensed. You should be able to listen, but you might not want to pay the subscription for the download. www.storyblocks.com/audio/search/new%20orleans%20chills?search-origin=type_ahead You might also see if you can find it on Apple Music or Spotify; I don't use either one, but I hope you can find it!

Literally, one of my favorite narrators giving his voice to this, but the stories are outdated junk, and not even a golden voice can remedy such weak and shallow writing. 🤔
@arealhumanvoice Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind compliment! It can definitely be a challenge finding good stories, although I happen to like Chandler's writing a lot. Apparently this was his least favorite story, anyway. I would very much welcome any suggestions for future material, if there's something you'd like to hear me try. No guarantees I can do it; some stories work for me, and some don't, but don't hesitate to point me in the direction of something you'd like to hear!

Thans 4 the story. Luv Raymond Chandler, but I must admit, not wild about the narrator.
