Mr. Hammett's Continental Op stories are the best. Thank you very much.

The reader, Mr. Tharp, sounds, at times, so much like the actor Jimmy Stewart. Enjoyed this. TFS.

@Tres Feles. Yes I was trying to figure out why the narrator's voice sounded so familiar. Excellent isn't it, couldn't imagine a better voice for these stories. What a treat.

@@marisadallavalle393 Yes, this was the first of the series I had listened to (there are at least 6 more) and on this one no one had commented on his voice. There are comments about it on the others, so we're not the only ones who noticed. Really enjoying the whole series of his stories. So glad to have them available to us.😊

@@tresfeles2784 My other two all time favorite narrators are Ian Carmichael for Ngaio Marsh and Dorothy L. Sayers' books and Hugh Frazer for Agatha Christie. I'm an illustrator, so audiobooks have been such a treat for me.

Hello; 🐮 It is so good to see a play list that does NOT have the same old, dead overly -used stuff. 📝 Your lists are original and new. Fresh. Thank you for ALL your time in putting these up. In these sad unsure times, at times I just want to lie back, dark room, hot tea and a short cigarette-Just Doyle and me. 📻 That's escapism at its finest. 👵 m. Illinois.

I have a feeling that the reader is a LibriVox member. Excellent pace and character change. Superb accent ( mid west?) thank you. Mr Hammett comes alive. 🤗🤗🌟🌟

I enjoy your reading style. With these stories taking place during the prohibition era, I can't help but visualize backdrops from HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Keep up the good work! 👍

Hey Marisa My name is Mary. When I was 11 or 12 or so I hated my name, plain old Mary. Everyone was named Mary. I wanted a new name so I made up a pretty name. Marisa. I thought I had created it, all myself. I think now, I must have heard it and it stuck, pretty, in my mind. I still love it. I still want it as my name but by now I'm 63 and would end up forgetting how to spell it. I'd probably forget to answer to it, and end up Answering to something like Kathy or Midge. 😀 Menopause sucks. M Elgin. Illinois.

@@mwatts-riley2688 Haha, tell me about it. I got it early and yes it really sucks! I was named after my aunt. Her name was Maria Teresa but in Italy it's automatically shortened to Marisa - pronounced "Mareeza" - so I got the shorted version right off. That should help you remember. Stay safe my friend and namemate!

@@mwatts-riley2688 One of my Italian clients, his name was Orazio, his mother was Maria, a sister and an aunt, his wife and his daughter. I lived in a horrible catholic boarding school run by very stupid nuns - my mother skipped town and there I was sent - and the statue of Mary on the front lawn was my best friend. I would put little bouquets of flowers at her feet.

Crazy story. Absurd. Shit just happens in the surreal world of Hammett’s San Francisco a strangely small, crowded and beautiful city on seven hills.

Fade to black at the end without nary a goodbye. Sorry that ending is. Aye, not even an the end. I found it odd that this audio book was also a video- book. I haven't ever listened to one I could read at the same time. Odd. I haxe an assessment of the reader: astute as to his voices. At first the two women sounded different, but as it went on they seemed closer to the same. I am sure it's difficult to change voices in a story and keep track of which voice belongs to whom. It's talent if you can keep them straight and separated from your narrating voice. I liked the story and the reading. Thanks.

Superb accent?? I agree re his American one…perfect for the story: but Jesus, the ‘faux Irish’ accent is terrible…..it hurts my Scottish ears!!
