I thought the same and came to the comment section to find out what I was missing: Portent says you may exile a card of each type. So Seth chooses a land (temple/labyrinth/island), a creature (drift/emmy), an instant (command), then a Kindred (fail to find because command was already taken). After choices, he puts the rest in the graveyard and it checks for the number of cards exiled. Less than four? No free lunch.

Yeah Seth's explanation was wrong/poorly worded. The pile of revealed cards contained 4 types but since command was two of them, you couldn't exile 4 cards each having a unique type.

Portent of Calamity is pretty playable in standard. I had to use a monte carlo simulation to get the odds, using a deck with 4x omniscience, 4x bramble familiar (for fetch quest) and a host of multitype cards and sets of 100000 trials. At x=5 its already got a 25% chance to win the game on the spot (48% to free cast something, 25% for omni from either free cast or fetch quest, 8% for atraxa if not omni), while at X=6 it becomes 65/35/11, at X=7 it becomes 77/43/13. At X=8 its 86/51/14). etc. Its refilling your hand, casting a free spell, could just be a sunfall to reset the board, but around 8 mana it starts to get likely to win the game on the spot. I've had some games where it just feels like cheating when I run Portent X=4 planning to draw cards and instead get that luckball and hit omni, arcavios, overlord and a land and say oops I just won...

Seems like Seth underrate big guy with first strike, reach and lifelink. These 3 keywords are great defensive keywords for good stat creature. Many mtggoldfish crews underrate the sire while the crew are mostly midrange, control player which this creature is great for this playstyle.

I actually don't think it is right. First, there is a huge cost. This deck plays a ton of colorless lands already and wants to hit Ancient Stirrings on turn 1. Second, I don't see much upside. Plan A is cheat something into play. Plan B, especially against control, is to draw 4-6 cards with Portent. Boseiju is much better in this sense. Also, both Mycospawn and Nulldrifter have cast triggers that get around counters. And tapping out 7 for a biggo is going to feel really bad when it eats removal anyway if you aren't drawing into more action. Letting someone hit land drops, draw cards and shape their hand while you slowly roll into hardcasting a Sire is just not going to beat a control deck, even with Cavern

@@derekcline950 literally cut a gemstone caverns for it it is way worse if you are not a combo deck you should not be going down a card for what it offers. second, sire is really good against current control lists, since their sweeper of choice is the energy one which really isnt going to answer it, the best thing you can do is just drop big creatures until they run out of 1 for 1 removal, same reason you dont see tron cutting threats against control even before the energy sweeper became the one of choice, sometimes the play is simply "make them have the answer several turns in a row" and make counterspells not work as that answer. third, sire single handedly beats most murktide/frog lists if it hits play since most of the time they literally cannot answer it. this alone makes it worth the slot.

Like two ships in the night? 1) Again, Caverns is a colorless card for Ancient Stirrings and Portent, so why are we talking about Gemstones being a 2 for 1? Cutting it still makes mana worse, which was my point. 2) Agree. Sire is great for control. And so is Mycospawn, it's phenomenal. And Null Drifter because they both have cast triggers that are very hard to counter both the cast and trigger! I agree that the best thing to do is slam these. They're great without Cavern. Why mess up the mana when we have these great things without Cavern?

@@derekcline950 because in most games gemstone caverns is a colourless land. the only times it is not is when you are on the draw and willing to eat card disadvantage for it. it is the slot that it competes with as the non soul land colourless option. the upside of mana acceleration in half your games that you draw one of these 2 ofs is nowhere near as good as cavern is. This entire league he did not use gemstone caverns once, while cavern of souls would have won him the game vs froculus that he lost to having spells countered on repeat and snowballed vs frog.

In respones to the "Should creativity decks run 4 archons" i would say, that due to surgical extraction seeing a optic, running 2 archon and 2 diffrent threats may be better, like 2 archons, 1 emerakul, 1 other threat. That way its way harder for an opponent to completly remove all your threats at best for them its a 3 for 4, and that is if they are running 3-4 surgicals.

Creativity's most likely method of winning without archons is probably use double reflections to make an army of 2/2s at the end of each of their opponent's turn. Edit: as for "sack the stony silence" my guess is it has to do with ablaut reduplication (the repetition of same word with different vowels ex. tic tac, hip hop). While it's not a true ablaut reduplication, it's very similar with Sa Sto Si (sack, stony, silence), which would be grammatically incorrect, as the order for this would be Si Sa Sto, as ablaut reduplication starts with an I before moving to A and/or O.
