"cats themselves were not really a thing in amonkhet" I played cats during amonkhet and it was very strong. I think people were sleeping on the deck. The 2 cats that revived themselves from the graveyard gave insane value.

Yeaaah, hat was the time of hazored, so the most succesful decks at the time were red and into cats. However the cats in Amonketh were REALLY good, you're totally right that people sleeped on them a bit. Like those are the cats that made cats a thing in pioneer with coco :)

@@MrZymolysis prideful parent is a 2/2 vigilance and a 1/1. 3 power and toughness for 3 mana that not only triggers all of your card draw on its own, but also gives you more bodies on the board for the squire and the 2 cat lords in the deck. kutzil's flanker has some nice ETBs, but i would consider it more of a sideboard card since it can act as graveyard hate and it could theoretically be flashed in after a board wipe to make one largeer cat. otherwise it's a 3/1 body that will mostly just gain you 2 life and scry

I’ve been running a version with Roaming throne for fun. Can cause sudden kills with Arabo and sky knight. Also for lands, have the stones that turn into any creature type permanently, which can help finish after a wrath or swing with the lords

CECE! 😍 We need an MTGGoldfishPets channel I think the main problem with a cats is that it's super soft to wraths and there are a ton of them in standard rn. Also, tournament play tends to have a lot more midrange and control decks than arena, worsening the archetype's position. Also, Cavern seems bad but Soulstone Sanctuary seems good. Works with tribal synergies and can be the last but if chip damage post wrath. It's sad to not see Claws Out. I think it's the right decision not to run it, but limited has made me love the card. Editted to fix the spelling of Cece's name.

Roaming throne is super nice here, and the 3/1 flash cat also helps against graveyards and recovering from a wrath, plus it's hilarious with throne out. Claws out is cute but might be a bit win more? 3 mana Ajani is also worth considering if you can ever get a sky knight to stick

I've been playing Roaming Throne in my cat deck. It's super explosive as there are a lot of triggers to double. Roaming Throne also dodges most of the popular black removal.

Deck looks pretty good. I've been running a "cats" deck for a few weeks now already. It's not fully cats because I'm lacking wildcards, so instead it runs Hinterlands Sanctifier and Ajani's Pridemate as its bread and butter. Also has Cat Collector since lifegain happens almost every turn. And lastly a couple angels for card draw (just working with the cards I've got). Cards like Joust Through also work nicely when your deck wants to gain life every way it can. But Regal Caracal definitely shines with the lord-lifelink it grants.

aside from savannah lions, pretty much every cat relevant to these decks has a triggered ability that can be doubled by roaming throne. There's also not really a great cat to play on curve at 4, so roaming throne really made closing out games much more consistent for me

by the by, ajani's pridemate is available in standard rn, and it works so well with vanguard and caracal that I think throwing them in there in place of the savannah lions would be worth it, even if you don't toss in hinterland sanctifiers or anything

Seth, I love your content. I love your deck ideas when you innovate. I really wish you would stop calling rare heavy decks on Arena "budget". Arena rares cost a lot even if you aren't paying paper costs. Granted many players keep Arena afloat by paying into it but for many of us, Arena is a free-to-play experience and budgeting wild cards is a real thing we do. As for the Cats deck, I wonder at your take on Parent. It seems like a decent include to me. Not maybe the best choice in a high tier contest but for the casual player it is doing good work imho. A card I thought about including: Cat Collector which is great when you start gaining life every turn and provides food to start it off if you need while giving you a decent body. Granted it isn't a cat but so what? We aren't using "Tribal Wars" rules here where 33% of the deck has to be on typal. Another interesting include might be Season of the Burrow which can lead to either removing key opposition pieces, or returning important indestructible cats to your side at the right moment, or both. Again granted it does not hit Caracal but imho an indestructible Arahbo might be better anyway. Also, though the land base is a bit hard to fill out without just going 24 basics, I feel like 4 fountain ports is unnecessary and bad with 4 caverns too. I'd much prefer less of the first and none of the latter except in a meta where dimir/esper is highly prevalent. (And it might be that in Standard getting to mythic has a lot of those decks, in which case forget I said anything.) I think Fabled Passage does some good work instead because of deck thinning though I realize that isn't as huge a factor as it once was. And yes occasionally you may get some weird starts because you can't drop a vanguard/lions from your hand turn 1 because you have passage. On a sadder note: we had a cat like Cece (spelling?) a while ago (Her name was Elsa). She was scared into going outside by some work on my Dad's house and ran into the road where some raging maniac killed her with his truck rolling crazily fast down the hill at like 90 miles an hour. Elsa had no chance. :( She was wonderfully calico like yours.
