The thing is they're not trying to fool us, they know we know and they don't care. They're fooling everyone else you know who doesn't watch any China content and just gets a trickle on socials. Everyone who doesn't watch this show thinks China is the same as it was 20 years ago. Cheap quality goods but definitely still competent. Well meaning people here think the social credit system is something they're still working on, not something that's been completely implemented for 5 years. Mention the EV graveyards to a well educated normie and they'll treat you like a flat earther. Tell them you can't buy a train ticket if you were complaining about air quality in a group chat, and you just sound crazy. The propoganda is sloppy but effective when combined with the intentional shortening of the western attention span via tik Tok. The most frustrating conversation is having to explain that tik Tok is absolutely 100% politically motivated. We should not have to explain to anybody that the Chinese government is not interested in a whimsical social app that rakes in ad revenue with no larger purpose. Actually, the worst part is having to sound crazy explaining that there's no such thing as an independent chinese company, If any international software is made in china, that is communist software, it may as well have a hammer and sickle in the TOS. No matter how obvious, people just don't pay attention, ironically the tik Tok/shorts meta is very much responsible for this. It's like the one department in the CCP that is actually effective besides the fanta labs.

A great example is Wang Bing, who is often considered to be one of the best documentary film makers ever to do it. His nine hour documentary epic Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks looks at the decline of the socialist economy in Shenyang, and is considered to be a masterpiece by some. Others say GYATDAMN THAT SHIT LONG. Which, like, valid. It's nine fucking hours. But regardless, he's an example of artistic integrity and truth in china. And he's not alone. There are many like him that unfortunately get silenced or killed for their art. But nothing is ever black and white. No people are a monolith. There's almost always an exception to most rules.

One of the items most foreigners don’t know about the US is that even small towns usually have libraries. If the town is too small to have a library there is usually a library on wheels (big truck) that visits once a week. All the big libraries are impressive, but the more impressive thing about them is they loan those books out to any library in the country and therefore all the books are available to anyone for the price of a library card (in many cases free).

Not to mention hundreds of antique and resale stores all over in the same towns. If you can't find a book you are looking for within your county or state library system catalog, you can check resale bookstores and see if they have an older version of the book you need. I feel like most european descended countries have these systems. I am not sure mainland china does.

the idea is that if a government has such disregard for its people as to oppress and genocide them, there would be signs of that throughout the government-civilian interface: shoddy infrastructure, financially unattainable healthcare and education, inadequate housing. Pick any country that has laboured under oppressive and corrupt regimes as an example. and that countries that have strong human rights and standards of living -- think Nordic countries -- have visible investment into the wellbeing of their people including clean highspeed rail. It isnt sufficient that you have nice infrastrucuture, but it is necessary if you want to say the country is looking after the lower and middle classes

In the Netherlands, a new company has been in charge of public bus transport for a while. Most of their busses are the new electric ones from BYD. Despite them being brand new, they are already falling apart, random chunks just fall of, the paint chips and they frequently break, leaving the passengers stranded. The company has been getting fined because it fails at being on time so often, all because they ordered their busses on Ali-express or something

I will support any company I can that isn’t afraid to advertise on a channel that is anti CCP! Just like I try and boycott any company that cow tows to the CCP. We need to demand that companies stop compromising their values just in hopes of being able to have access to the Chinese market. We need to use our wallets to demand that these large companies do what’s right by supporting the companies that do the right things and stop supporting any companies that do not. We all need to try and live up to these standards to the best of each of ours abilities!

3:05 I live near Detroit & say this each time you bring it up. Flint Michigan hasnt been fixed. The lead pipes go through foundations of homes built in the 40s with lead pipes. costs 10k per house to fix. If every house isn't fixed it leeches into the system from the non-fixed homes. Detroit has lead too. In addition to the city Eastpointe I'm in now on East detroits border.

If people only knew the truth about replacing older water systems. First the location has already been chosen and increasing main diameter is easy. You install a temporary watermain system above ground. Digging is easy and quick because of DigSafe. In these big cities there are so many fees and different departments that are not needed. Engineering company should submit the plan and then contractor follows it. There are permit fees per foot of relay. There are environmental issues that are not needed. There are departments that need to approve but aren't qualified to design. All you need is to measure the streets then add main shutoffs, service connections and other fittings. If 20k was the cost for 1 house in reality 40k would replace a small city street

Regarding the part about poorly constructed cars in China: I got into an online spat here on KZbin a few weeks ago when I commented on a video about Chinese-made jet engines for passenger aircraft. I commented that I wouldn't board a plane with Chinese engines anytime soon, given the Chinese 'tradition' of cutting corners and half-assing the production of just about anything imaginable. The attacks and angry replies I received were so over the top... It was wild! :-)

To be fair, ~200 NYC subway stations flooded to some extent in January of this year (some up to 4 times) 200 of the 472 is a lot .... but nobody drowned. As near as I can tell, nobody has ever drowned on the NYC subway system in it's 120 year history ..... aside from violent crime and being stuffed in confined quarters with tens of thousands of random New Yorkers during a Pandemic, it's statistically safer and healthier than being at home in NYC. I wouldn't volunteer for either fate.
