I couldn't count how many times I have watched this movie. And it never fails to make me cry every time. The infamous hotel room scene & the fight scene before it showcase just how good an actress Susan Hayward truly was. What really gets me through is Lillian's mother saying that she doesn't understand why her daughter started drinking in the first place. That pisses me off, because she's the one who drove Lillian to drink by being so overbearing and critical, and just overall using her as a bank. Believe me, I can sympathize will Lillian Roth over that. My mother did the exact same thing to me. And, I spent an entire decade in a continual blind drunk because of it. Frankly, I believe "I'll Cry Tomorrow" is Susan Hayward's best movie. Topping out my favorite Susan Hayward movies are: #3 - "With A Song In My Heart" #2 - "I Want To Live" #1 - "I'll Cry Tomorrow"

If you admire Susan Hayward, as I always did...a great companion film to I'LL CRY TOMORROW: SMASH-UP, STORY OF A WOMAN..it was made a few years before this...and you couldn't easily say 'alcoholic"..there were many censorship constraints placed upon filming and scripts. (A German psychiatrist says it in the film) But still and all, it is a wonderful performance. In real life Ms. Hayward did indeed drink, and her personal life was turbulent and unhappy: I knew someone who looked after her in her final days, nursing her as she was dying. He said her courage and gentleness, despite excruciating pain... was nothing short of remarkable. One gutsy dame. But do watch SMASH-UP, if you like to see Susan onscreen battling the bottle...

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made a huge blunder by giving the award to a foreign actress instead. It was a huge blow for Miss Hayward.
