As to bias in a sweater knit in the round, an old Elizabeth Zimmerman trick is to drop in a faux seam of 2 or 3 purls under each arm. It can go a long way toward counter acting bias.

You are so fun to watch with your sing song voice and smile. Just too cute for words. Working on my weekender crew... almost done with sleeve one and I did go up a needle size. Really happy with the resulting fabric on the sleeve and fit. Using Woolfolk Stra yarn. Loving how it looks in both the stockinette and reverse stockinette.

Walking and knitting! You've so inspired me(about all sorts of things) to do more of this. I think we sit more than enough when we knit and I so appreciate your beautiful example. Thank you!!

Caking with a winder can add twist to yarn. If it is biasing during knitting, I change to pulling from the outside of the cake instead of the center (or visa versa).

I am forever referring to slubs at blehs going forward. Also, I just love you. Your support spindle spinning is just the most lovely work - kudos to you and well done!

With regards to bias in knitting… I have this one top that I knit in a linen yarn and when I blocked/washed it for the first few times, there was a lot of bias happening and I thought ‘oh crap, what is going on here?’ but whenever I am wearing that top, the fiber almost stretches and sculpts to the shape of my body and the bias is gone again. This is only from one experience with one garment, but long story short: knitted fabric is so flexible, that I am hoping the bias will not cause any longterm distress for you! Best of luck!

It's funny because I spun my own yarn for a DRK Everyday Sweater. I had leftover so I made a Harlow. And now I still have more so maybe I'll make mittens. We are leftover twins.

My ribbing ALWAYS biases. But yes, it does seem to block out just fine.

Some additional information for question #5 - linen is known for biasing, especially in stockinette in the round. So if the lace is stockinette based that might be the issue. The biasing may not block out if it is extreme. If I remember correctly the problem results from how the plant grows more than how the yarn is spun. Large swatches (8-10") are essential, IMHO. I knit a linen skirt in the round, the biasing isn't extreme and the weight of the skirt helps pull it straight - it's not noticeable enough to bother me or the recipient. But biasing with linen is my super-power - a current project is a chainette linen/cotton yarn, knit flat, that was biasing so much that I had to modify the stockinette to be textured (every other row is seed stitch) so that the top will hang straight.

Love you singing your way and inventive technical terms!! Though not a spinner, I knew immediately what you were describing as bluh... 😂

I SO agree with your thoughts on spindle spinning! I am such a fast knitter and spinning on a spindle is the perfect way for me to slow down! I have an electric wheel, but prefer my spindles for this reason. 💗

Hahah i smiled so much when you explained adjustments to your single when it gets a bluh. I do this too, and also sometimes pull the fiber off the main strand and let it un twist by hanging down. If its really has way to must twist.

Thank you so much for your tips on support spindles! I am trying to learn them as well. After drop & Turkish spindles, wheel & e-wheel spinning, it just hasn't been clicking as much as I want to it! I'm going to try again this afternoon though!

Joining the tessellated sock KAL but I am not trying to get them done in a weekend, even a long one. I have too much going on, but I still will squee with everyone over progress and finished socks while I turtle along on mine.

HI Andrea, I love your informal, happy energy and always learn so much from your responses to the questions. I have been considering learning to spin, but have such a large stash right now will put it off until I work through some of it. Meantime, it is time to start organizing and purchasing tools. I am thinking of starting with the supported spinning. Is there a reason why I should start with a drop spindle? I am just not sure I will have the energy to hold the spindle for an extended period of time, which is why I am leaning toward a supported spindle. So, for someone with occasional health flair-ups, where tiring easily is a frustration, which would be the best way to start? As always thanks for sharing your expertise, advice, and happy outlook on all things fiber!

I'm wondering if linen yarn might have more of a tendency to be unbalanced. I knitted a summer top in all stockinette in a 60% cotton 40% linen yarn and it was very tilted in one direction. Blocking it did make it a little less prominent, but it is still there.

Hey Andrea! Love the podcast -- you're always so informative and inspiring. I've actually got a BAKING question for you if you don't mind. A friend has recently had to switch to a gluten-free diet and has not had much luck finding a gluten-free recipe for challah, which she has always made for her family's Shabbat dinner. Any tips for her? Thanks in advance!

I need help, I do not know what I am doing. I bought a ARAN pattern to knit my husband an irish sweater. I have gotten to the part that says: knitting increase last row to 152 sts thus: Inc on first st. Rib 2 (inc.on next st., Rib 3, inc. on next st. Rib 4) 13 times, inc on next st., Rib 3

Love to hear you talk about support spinning. I am glad you have found your “grove” with support spindle. Have you tried drafting off the tip of the spindle like kzbin.info/www/bejne/emeanpmmqq16rtE It is similar to what you are doing, but a bit more fluid.
