Love your podcast as always. I must tell you that I have been knitting for 45 years, and everytime I watch your podcast I learn something new! Knitting has evolved immensely over the years and is so much more fun and creative than it was years ago when we had few stitch types, techniques, and only straight needles to choose from. Thank you for your patterns! You are my favorite designer, and your patterns and tutorials provide me with endless hours of fiber fun, not to mention beautiful garments and accessories! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and creativity with the knitting community. You are greatly appreciated 😀

Hi, I just watched this and wanted to give my experience with an outdoor sweater. My husband works outside in all weather all winter. I knit him a lopi sweater, single ply chunky weight and that thing has worn like iron. We are on year four and he has not needed one repair, he digs ditches, pours concrete, lays pipe in mud and runs heavy equipment in this sweater. Also, it’s so warm he doesn’t need a coat over it and it repels dirt and rain. I highly recommend a lopi style yarn for someone who works outdoors!

I really enjoy watching you. You are so clear with your explanations that I can follow what you’re saying. I do think I’m going to have to quit watching tho. Your passion for spinning makes me want to start spinning.🥴 I just can’t start another hobby between knitting, quilting, long arm quilting, cross-stitching, baking and cooking. I love your enthusiasm you make me very happy. Thank you!

A spinner once gave me a great tip for working out the average needle size needed for any given yarn which is even easier than wraps per inch...... lay two strands side by side ( without squashing ) and measure the width in mm.... hey presto you got the needle size to use.

Merci :) I will try that too !

I think you hit on a really important point that knitters sometimes aren't aware of--there's no perfect yarn that's the warmest and the softest and the most durable and the cheapest, etc. There are always trade offs, so it's important to prioritize what you're looking for in a yarn depending on the project and your (or the recipient's) needs.

Totally! There are pros and cons to each and it's fun to really learn more about their individual attributes to try to make the best decision for any given project!

I found that when I’m working on a project that has part knit in the round and part knit flat I have to swap out my left hand needle to one size smaller when I switch to flat knitting. I think your explanation of how people knit tighter in the round because they’re not purling and using more yarn purling is exactly why this issue happens to me. Lightbulb moment!
@dreareneeknits2 жыл бұрын
It totally it is! That's what causes people to "row out" when knitting stockinette stitch flat, but not in the round!

Just a big thank you for doing this. I feel like your enthusiasm for experimenting captivating a lot of new knitters with fades and brioche, and now you're starting to take some of the Unknowns about spinning and demystify it as well.

I have moved out of my comfort zone learning brioche by making your Harlow hat. I dropped a few stitches and made mistakes along the journey. Correcting them helped me understand the anatomy of the stitches. I am now working on you Cinnabar shawl and I am obsessed with it!!! Watching it develop is genius and magical!!! I love, love, love your videos.

I always enjoy your podcast and general attitude towards making and learning. I would like to chime in and say that woolen spun longwool or longwool blends make a great hardwearing & warm combo for sweater knitting. Corriedale is a nice breed specific fiber that is similar to merino but with a bit more strength. ❤️🧶🤗✨

Extending the reasoning for a warm sweater….have you ever knit holding one strand of worsted spun and one strand of woolen spun? Do you think the worsted spun would extend the ‘life’ of the woolen spun? Best if both worlds. Thank you so much! Love this podcast!

Warm and hard-wearing yarns: if you haven't already....Icelandic yarn is really hard wearing, my Lettlopi sweaters get a ton of wear in winter here and so far haven't pilled or worn out and I also have a couple cardigans knit up in Briggs and Little Regal which is woolen spun but I have found them pretty sturdy. I'm mainly wearing them around the house (sometimes sleeping in them when it's cold) so maybe I don't get the same amount of wear as the person with the question...but just throwing that out there. I find both pretty affordable.

I enjoy your episodes here on KZbin. The question about you being Aa tight or loose knitter. I have a comment. Did you knit The Weekender as a english style knitter- I have tried to get gauge on 5 (!!) different swatches. On 5,5 mm it is not possible. So either you are (or were) a tight knitter, or I am a loose knitter. 27 rows.... man I will never get it 😅😉

Hi Andrea, i am learning so much from you! I love doing the tubular bind off but.... what to do if we dont take enough yarn 😱 It says on some vidéos take 4-5 the lengh of yarn. I take 5 to 6 and miss yarn 😩help Thanks again for your work 😘
@dreareneeknits2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sophie! If you run out during the bind off and it is a non-superwash yarn, you can spit splice more yarn on to your current tail and keep going. Otherwise, you will have to attach a new length of yarn, which can be a bit tricky - or you would have to back out of the bind off and start again with more yarn. In the future, err on the side of more rather than less! Good luck!
