I’d kill to still have this guy actively making OSRS guides. I used these to max my main totally afk, and now going to adapt this a little bit to max my pure. These type of real guides for actual working adults (most of us from RS2 are now in our late 20s, early 30s) are sooo useful. I’m not a basement dwelling neckbeard kid playing 12 hours a day anymore. Alright guys, I did some testing! (Most cost efficient - not max xp) Use Staff of the Dead/Light over Smoke Battlestaff! Dead/Light staff has a 5% damage boost over Smoke staff which gives an extra max hit from 18 to 19 (with Chaos Gauntlets + Occult necklace - which is a must). Most miss that Dead/Light staff has a 1/8 chance to ignore runes when cast, which lowers the average cost/cast from 121 (97 + 12 + 12) to 106, which is only 9gp more per cast compared to Smoke battlestaff which only use Chaos rune. This extra max hit raises the xp from around 43-44k xp/h to 45-46k/h, which is quite alot when you do this for maybe 100-200 hours. An example of this difference; 75 mage to 94 mage is 6,7m xp. With Smoke Bstaff: 43k xp/h = 155 hours = 186k Chaos rune = 18,1m cost With Staff of the Dead/Light = 46k xp/h = 145 hours = 174k Casts (106gp/ea) = 18,4m cost So you see here, Dead/Light staff is 10 hours less of this, and costs only 300k more in the long run. Also mage accuracy makes almost no difference, so wearing Dragon chainbody/platelegs/boots is well worth it for afk-ness. Farseer helm and malediction ward works great to keep mage positive. Hope it helps you guys, might to some calculations on Death/Blood Runes aswell, they cost more but also alot more xp. If you can do money methods that get you like 1m/h its worth doing Death/Blood runes.

For anyone who want the BEST setup it's full justiciar, occult necklace, Imbued god cape, kodai wand, arcane spirit shield, eternal boots and chaos gauntlets. You need to bring air and fir runes to use the kodai, but it attacks 1 tick faster than staffs and has +15 magic str bonus. I also suggest bringing runes in 3x inv slots over using rune pouch. As you might run out. You can downgrade the kodai to smoke battlestaff and the arcane to malediction ward without losing too much dps but you do wanna keep justiciar to be super tanky. You can do hard rumbles with this gear every now and again when you are getting low on points to avoid having to boost to have enough absorbtion potions to get to 99.

2024 UPDATE: I cooked up a better gear set for this that lets you AFK longer and is even cheaper. It maximizes crush defense as that is what all the monsters you fight use: - Slayer Helmet (i) (un-imbued works too) - Blessed Spirit Shield - Dragon chainbody or Bloodbark body - Bloodbark legs - Guardian boots are the best, but dragon boots are fine too - Ring of suffering is the best, but Berserker ring (i) or seers ring are fine too - God cape imbued - Occult - Smoke battlestaff - Chaos gauntlets Crush defense with this setup is a massive 270! While still keeping magic attack high enough for max XP gains. The other important part that has changed is that you can AFK longer than 20 mins! There are other guides on how to do this, but basically you put something heavy on your arrow keys to keep your camera spinning with your cursor constantly selecting different tiles. With this setup I am getting 45k XP/hr and can AFK for over 2 hours. Enjoy, let me know how it goes.

I'll recommend an alternative for players with higher defense that don't mind slightly less AFK (still over 10 minutes, just depends on how much absorption you want to use). Full elite void with mage helm, occult necklace, seer's ring (i), imbued god cape, eternal boots, and book of darkness. Just cast the highest level blast/wave/surge spell you have available. At level 91 magic, I'm casting Earth Surge for 82k xp/hr and only about 2.9 gp/xp. If you feel like you're taking too much damage, just trade some of the items out for higher defense alternatives. Still much more AFK than most methods in the game, and significantly better value and a lot faster than casting bolt. At least I think, I guess I never tested Fire Bolt.

Always use the shield slot for defence, It's very inefficient to use a god book for the shield slot in this situation. Use a rune kiteshield and swap the legs for mystic and you've got yourself free 18 magic bonus while maintaining basically the same defence.

@@BIGTENFanatic That would probably hurt your magic bonus too much if you wore all of those. The best thing I can recommend is to get all your melee and magic gear out of your bank and in your inventory. Then try on different combinations of your gear to see what gives you the best bonuses. Look at his bonuses in the video, and then try to keep similar melee defense bonuses to his while maximizing your magic bonus. The obby legs have similar defense to rune but rune lowers your magic bonus while obby does not, so that's a good place to start imo. God cape even when not imbued will give +10 mage so it might be worth getting if you find you can't get good bonuses without it. Hope this helps.

i've tested with ahrims / obsidian / rune on multiple acc's i've trained. None of it is any different. Just go with the rune chain setup, it's cheaper. FOR FIRE BOLT t it's 43-45k/hr FORE FIRE BLAST IT'S 60-63K/HR FOR FIRE WAVE IT'S 72-76K/HR

Yeah, you could but you’d run through the absorptions much faster. The key with this method is the only check up every 15-20 minutes instead of prayer click rapid heal/going back down to 1 HP. If you’re at the screen and actively monitoring the game, then yes, hard rumble would be better.

Robbie You don’t understand. If you’re maintaining 1hp, you need to use the rock cake every minute or so when your hp goes up. This method is afking for 15 minutes straight so your hp will begin to rise overtime, meaning you’ll start burning through absorption potions. The reason for normal is because the monsters are a lot lower level, meaning they’ll hit less while your hp is high, thus using less absorptions.

first of all thank you, got 99 def with this method really quickly only tapping a few times every 15-20 minutes. but during the 99 def training & now during magic training (currently 93 magic w max gear & fire surge), i'm wondering how you went 6 hours per session, or even close to that? i'm getting 2.5 hours at best on normal rumble mode, and i run out of absorptions under 3 hours every time. i can last double the time it seems in the corner only getting attacked by 1-2 monsters compared to 3-4 in middle of the room, but i log out constantly in the corner. what's your monster list you're using? also - have you tried any other remote desktop apps outside of google desktop? it works for clicking pots etc.. but it's a nightmare for running around / clicking anything outside of NMZ (not sure if you've experienced the same). when i do log out and try to pay for NMZ, get absorptions, and click the drink potion to dream.. it's literally impossible.. my guy runs every direction except where i'm trying to click. regardless it works well for being just in NMZ and drinking pots, that's why i'm wondering how to get to 6 ish hours instead of my 2-3. Thanks!

unfortunately absorption potions are pretty bad for afking with 1 def. The monsters literally always hit you. With prayer pots and max prayer gear you can afk for only about 5minutes.

Not sure what the exact exp per hour is, but the runes in nightmare zone are heavily reduced for exp now after the update a few years ago. Might be worth it for the free exp, but I have no data on how much the exp is reduced.

The exp from the free runes is reduced and you won't get any exp from attacking Chronozon if he regenerates (which he does if you don't cast one of each bolt spell on him) making it very non-afk at around 5k exp/hour

i have the issue sometimes theres 4 monsters attacking and withing such small difference so my character cant start an attack against one before he tries to do that against another one cause they attack me with such low time difference. anyway to fix this or make it not happen? im kind of rubbish at the game same for speaking english so i hope you understand what i meant :)

It is actually possible to get a positive rate of NMZ points with this method for very cheap. Still use fire bolt, but make sure to use dragon chain, dragon platelegs and dragon boots. This is enough to break even. If you start each session out with draining your prayer through prayer melee you start out with a nice bonus. Last but not least there are better positions where you only get hit by three bosses at once instead of four. I've found two places north-east of the spot recommended in this video be better. I actually did a lot of research into this method a couple of months back, specifically for fire bolt, and I tested a lot of different combinations of gear. I have all my discoveries written down if you're interested in them. I tried the staff of the dead like some other people mentioned, and found that the SotD is only about 2k xp/hr better, but at only a cost of 0.16 gp/xp more. I also did some tests with the tome of fire, and got about 52.5k mage xp/hr, at 8 gp/xp.

Since magic defence is the only thing that matters for magic accuracy on monsters, why not choose moss guardian (for 2.5% bonus exp,), treus (negative magic def) and black demon (negative magic def)

One thing you can absolutely do is to have Chrome Desktop and youtube split on your phone. Makes the grind so more bearable it makes a huge difference on how far you can go.

Best afk/cheap magic training method. "Splashing" on cave kraken with slayer dart with a slayer staff(e). Yes you need the slayer level and task, but you gain 80k mage xp and about 25k hp per hour. Costs are 2.7 gp/xp. Bonus is that you can wear slayer helmet and the kraken needs just stays under water so no hassle.

So pretty often my guy will get stuck not attacking getting stuck deciding which boss to attack. This drastically decreases my efficiency. This only happens when I am magic training and I am wondering if anyone managed to find a fix? Perhaps standing in a different spot? Auto retaliate is on and I have plenty of runes available.
