@@derekclawson5707 konan asked itachi in the full version of this to please separate them cause Pain wanted to recruit Hidan. she knew that if Kakuzu got fed up of this mission he'd destroy or dismember hidan an possibly try to attack her and itachi as well. an to answer the second part in the source material the manga Hidan kills one of Kakuzu's hearts as he was tricked by shikamaru into believing he somehow got a scratch of his blood once Hidan felt that feeling of death the ritual ended an he returned to normal, once his ritual is done from a kill he can not keep stabbing himself for repeated kills of the same victim. not only that but the hearts in kakuzu's possession are not by technicality "his" heart but that of a shinobi he had previously killed.

Well when you look at it from a technical standpoint, he _had_ to be on the weaker side since he was quite literally incapable of dying to standard injuries or attacks and could remain fully functional through insane amounts of damage. If he wasn't a slow attacker and/or had tons of other Ninjutsu he'd be overpowered.
