Lovely, young woman. I love that these kinds of health issues are not as isolating as they used to be. Technology hurts us in a lot of ways but the fact that we know about what people are going through is because anyone can self report on social media. I've had full dentures since I was 20. I'm now about to turn 25 in 4 days. When I was 17 I had a dentist badly mess up a crown on my front tooth. I went to a different dentist to try and get it fixed and they told me it couldn't be saved and pulled out the one next to it and gave me a partial. The partial was terrible so I was left missing 2 front teeth for a couple years, completely killing the small bit of confidence I had left. To make it worse, they then proceeded to do a bunch of unnecessary work on all of my teeth (knowing it wouldn't hold and that I'd have to keep coming back) just to get all of my insurance money.. They left my teeth completely destroyed.. By 20 I switched to a good dentist and she said unfortunately there was no way to save my teeth from how badly they ruined them and that I'd have to get dentures. I had to have all my back teeth removed in sections over a couple of months and then the last 10 in the front all at once right before I was given my dentures. It took a lot of getting used to but being able to smile again was amazing. They weren't the best dentures because they were covered by my not so great insurance, but they lasted me 4 years until a few months ago I was able to afford to buy really nice ones. I'm so happy with my new ones and feel sooo confident having them in and am able to eat so much more foods than I could before. They're very comfortable and don't even need an adhesive to stay in because they're so well fitted. People are amazed when they learn my teeth are dentures and are usually just convinced that I have very nice teeth. I've learned to become more comfortable in not being ashamed that I'm so young, but have dentures. Luckily my loving boyfriend has been with me through the whole process (we've been together for over 7 years) and has loved me and helped me feel beautiful even when I was walking around missing 2 front teeth for a couple years. Thank you for sharing your story and doing what you can to help others like me be reminded that there's no need to be ashamed of it. Also, coincidentally I'm from PA too lol.

Thank you fur sharing your story. I think this is my fate. I feel i had unnecessary crowns placed too. As the girl in the video. I brushed my teeth every day and had regular dental visits. Every visit their was a problem. I use artificial sugar in my coffee to eliminate sugar. ( the only thing i could improve is to stop eating sweets, carbs and make sure i brush every night) i just know some people brush once a day and don't go to the dentist every 6 months and don't have my issues. I am 45 and single. I think about if i need partials or full dentures would i attract a mate. I already have one side of my molars removed and some on the other side. So i don't have alot of chewing surface left. I see a new periodontist next week. Hopefully, what ever he tells me i can deal with it and afford it.

@@darlene971 I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this. In my opinion, if having a partial or dentures would detour someone from being attracted to you, then that's not the kind of person you'd want in your life anyway. I know it will be quite a big change, but the relief of having more teeth to chew on again and never having to deal with teeth pain/aches is wonderful. Dentures may be costly sometimes, but often times the amount of money you'd spend in the long run if you had to continously get work done on your teeth throughout the rest of your life ends up being a lot more money, stress, and pain than just getting dentures. I wish you the absolute best of luck! 💕

Being ashamed is normal and I dont think its okay to not realize the reality. Its not a small thing to even have 1 tooth extracted. It can really take a hit on your confidence to lose teeth. Nobody wants dentures at an age where you still are working on confidence. Thankfully we do have dentists and denturists and they do contribute in a big way to how we feel about our smiles. However, I'm sure she must have felt ashamed and why wouldn't she. You're in your 20s and losing your teeth. While there are others out there who are the same age and never got a cavity. We cant be dismissing real emotions that several have felt. Its when we dismiss them and say dont feel a certain way. We have to let people feel what they do and acknowledge it. Teeth are a big part of us and its the first thing we see. We have to let people work through real emotions and not suggest they shouldn't feel a certain way, when the reality is that they will feel something and it wont be happiness right away.

I'm 26 and lost my first tooth at 22 due to overcrowding, not receiving braces as a teen and a dodgy root canal done in the public system when I was a teenager. Genetic factors plus that molar rotting ended up in me losing the tooth above that molar at 24, being told that I have a lot more that will need removing as soon as possible. I've now been putting off that removal for 3 years and the root of my lower wisdom is impacting my nerve leaving me with extreme nerve pain in my jaw and numbness around my lips/chin... Dentures are in a way a disability aid. Teeth are as important for daily life as working legs. I feel the same way about my cane as she does about her teeth. It opened so many doors and it gave me my confidence back. A lot of times ppl look at us and think ‘that poor girl has to use a walker’ but for us it’s often a case of increased independence or freedom from something that was holding us back. The lack of real teeth might be sad but having dentures is a blessing and it’s ok to like them. I’ve had several people act like I ‘like having a disability’ because I like having a cane. It has been a struggle to get used to them, especially since my condition causes my mouth to be dry (Not sure if this is a issue all denture wearers have or just folks with Sjogren's) and it can make eating certain things painful and cause the dentures to rub the gums and cause canker sores which makes wearing them even more uncomfortable. Also, everything sticks to them. It makes everything you eat almost feel like peanut butter with how it gets all stuck to your dentures and the top plate of the denture. Even still the dentures have changed my life. I never had a nice smile because of my condition and felt a lot of shame and judgement about the state of my teeth. Everyone thought I was on drugs or had a eating disorder or just was filthy. I have struggled with a lot of serious medical issues but nothing compares to the horrible feeling of shame for something so out of your control. I'm waiting to pull 19 teeth in the next 6 months. I NEVER go out and hang with people. NEVER, but if I have to get out the door, I'm wearing a facemask, ALWAYS. I cant eat, I cant sleep, I'm in constant extreme pain and sickness. I have lost my life. All bc of what ONE person did too me. I've survived so much since being a child, but when this happens, I really thought my life was over. I HATE looking at myself in the mirror, I've stopped doing makeup, I no long buy new clothes. I've lost my will to live. But now that I see how beautiful shes looking and how natural it kinda looks, I feel so EXTREMELY happy that I'm crying. I soooo scared to look like a grandmother. Never ever thought I would be this happy again ever, and I never thought I would EVER comment something so cheesy like this haha.... omg I just want my life back, and now i feel like i can. So, I've been doing the best I can eating without teeth. Surprisingly, I can eat a lot of foods I never thought I'd be able to eat as our bodies really do overcome to survive, but, it's not ideal. The worst part is that it's absolutely crushed my self esteem & confidence as a woman. My husband is wonderful, but, I simply don't feel attractive anymore... It's super hard to deal with. I'm too ashamed to eat out in public in front of others and ppl are really mean and hateful so it keeps me inside the house mostly. Reading your story makes me feel so bad for you because if that's you in the profile pic you're absolutely gorgeous, I wish I could be that stunning. But, I totally get why you feel that way, I've been in a similar position too before I got my dentures at 26, and even then it was on and off because (don't read the next sentence, it can be a bit gory) the dentist couldn't just pull my teeth, they were so stuck that she had to drill the bone around my teeth away to remove them. That gave me so many issues for the first few years. Was hiding from the world, alone and thought I would always be alone. Chronic depressions and feeling ugly like a monster not even worthy of life or daylight. Now at 43 am glad to say life has turned around so much, even been married since a few years with a wonderful man who loves me with and without teeth. We even joke about how I sound when I speak without teeth or how happy he is I can take them out (18+ reason lol). Please have patience, give the process the time and when it's fixed for everything to heal, and heal yourself. Reach out, find help even professional if you need to, but don't deny yourself the life you so deserve. It's a journey but so worth it to take, one day you'll look back and smile, showing that beautiful smile to a friend or a lover, and flipping your finger to anyone a million levels beneath you. Just (cliche:) don't give up. Thank you so much for sharing your story and opening up, and please stay beautiful because really you are. Much love and blessings from the Netherlands 💖

She is so beautiful and I know her husband loves her unconditionally and this what makes a relationship strong not to judge people for how they look how large or how small or whatever it's about loving that person and accepting them from the heart because the heart do not lie I am so glad that she's happy and she can live her life the way she sees with her husband peacefully and happy

I feel her pain but I'm a bit older and I lost my teeth due to many medications from two very serious illnesses that can't be cured . I can't get dentures because I had to quite my job of 18 Years because I am just to weak and too sick to work any longer even though I sadly miss my job alot.. It's so darn embarrassing to be toothless and I can't get dentures until I retire at 65 or I finally receive y S.S.I disability but I've waited two years for that and still nothing. I won't leave my home or talk to anyone do even my family. Even though I'm in my fiftys and not twenty's ,I still know your pain, your embarrassment and your many many tears . All I do is cry now. I cry all day and night in my pillow so my daughter who takes care of me doesn't have to hear and know how horrible I really feel.......I'm glad things work out for you honey.May God keep blessing you....

I have a top denture and I'm waiting to get the rest done. I have health issues and the same happened to me. Its sad when everyone assumes its drugs. Let's make the people.of the world kind again.

I too have dentures but got mine at 36 (I turned 37 yesterday). I lost my teeth as well to medical problems and getting them literally saved my life, my confidence.... everything.
