@@jomo148 same I’m 15 but the simple point is that they buy something then sell it online for money. So say if I were to buy like a company at a cheap price of say 10$ I can hold onto that until it’s value goes up. Once it does I can sell it too someone for essentially more than I bought it for. Just a guess of course I didn’t take finance as a subject for senior classes lol 😂

When the company initially goes public, they set their share at a specific share per price (there are also other more complicated things like options but for the sake of simplicity we're just gonna focus on shares). For example, Airbnb went public in December and set their stock price at $139.25 per share. Shortly afterwards, their stock price went up to around $190. The reason why it went up is because people saw value in the company and decided to buy at that price. Now, following demand rules, when the demand of the stock goes up, so does the price of the stock (and vice versa). Companies that go public release a select amount of stock so that the majority owners of the company, stay as the majority owners of the company. Btw, there are hundreds of millions of stock, and at least from my understanding, is that if we take the value of Airbnb ($40 billion) and divide it by the price of the stock ($187), then it means that there are around 200 million shares of outstanding stock. The reason why some investors buy right before a stock goes tumbling down is because they think it'll continue to rise, and then they can get in on some of the profit. Sorry if this was a little scattered and I hope it helps!

Crypto is the digital version of precious metals.
