I liked your video. But. Extremely long video that could have been 10 minutes. So much speculation about Valve's intentions or how the game *could* do poorly when it's very clearly not and arguing moot points about ideas you don't follow up on. A lot of this comes across as whining about things you are new to. Like character balance seemed to be a huge gripe but you only talked about 2 characters and both have very clear counters/build options you didn't touch on or expand on. You say character balance is awful but you dont elaborate on the cast at all you just complain about Seven. I was interested to hear your thoughts and got a scrubquote. Or how there are far too many items that bog new players down despite there literally being a "Builds" tab for that reason. (You are right though not enough items build into each other). So much surface level initial thoughts (which is fine) but to make a 45 minute video that strays off topic time and time again about it seems wild. You have a few genuinely good points and ideas I agree with. The towers could be paced better, Valve *is* very hands off historically, there is a cheater problem, and while it's great to be optimistic about a new fun game there are clearly issues. Sticking to those instead of trying to make long all encompassing videos like this could be great. Your last section was what I clicked for.

Pretty much how i feel about the entire trend of super long youtube videos lately. It couldve just been 10 minutes or at least the script written out as an article i could read in 10 minutes instead of watching a 45 minute drawn out video of someone reading it out loud trying to make it dramatic with distracting footage in the background. These longer form videos would do so much better as written articles. Just feels padded out for ads and watch time

Wow I cannot believe I just spent 44 minutes listening to this. Why in all of the nine hells you spent 30 minutes explaining how the game works? That can easily be a separate video you could direct people to. This could have been a 10 minute video so you can let everyone know you have the same cookie cutter opinion that everyone has. Yes, valve dropped the ball on tf2. Will they do it again to deadlock or dota or cs2? Maybe. Maybe not. Games don’t last forever. Not every game is wow, even then that game is entirely different than 20 years ago. Enjoy your time and when it’s not fun, you move on. It’s seems like you still very much like this game and will keep playing it until x amount of time. So enjoy it, and when you don’t enjoy it, stop playing it. If I was raid shadow legends I would pull my ad from this video.

I won't be surprised if Deadlock goes dark for some time in a month or two so Valve can put the polish on it. As long as they give folks a headsup/reminder that this was an alpha playtest and they're going offline til open beta/release, I'm fine with it. They've had a very stellar showing, they just need to carry that momentum through to an official launch. I have faith.

To be fair. The game Alpha was leaked months ago and people were shitting on the Alpha designs and how Valve was trying to copy the Overwatch trend. I think Valve didn't want those initial reactions to poison well before it released. So Valve is just letting the game speak for itself by letting people play it early to an extent.

Lmao, cant be trusted? Dota used the same approach as what deadlock is doing now by letting a selected few play alpha, then make everyone play the beta and releasing it after 2 years. Then Dota 2 has remained consistently in the top 3 most played on Steam for a decade. Your concerns about hero niches and item counters starting at 31:30, are literally inherent to MOBAs. Every hero/character has their own niche what a surprise!!! For example, if you're constantly getting parried as an Abrams, maybe dont just mindlessly hit Q?You can use mind games to bait a parry or leverage your high-damage shotgun. You can also escape from a Seven by breaking line of sight with your ultimate. As for item counters, that’s exactly what items are meant to address. It sounds like you're frustrated because these mechanics are challenging to learn, and are too bothered to read the countless amount of items provided as an option for your personalized build. Your rants are very similar to how some gaming journalists criticize the difficulty of games like Elden Ring. You cant just expect a game to cater to you "low skill" issue capabilities.
@malif1279

That brings an interesting point actually in the gaming community Why is going "lol scrub just git gud" at every Elden Ring and Soulsborne criticism deemed acceptable, yet those same people will cry about how modern games have too high of a skill ceiling and that if you don't play like a fresh account constantly you're a "sweaty tryhard" Is it because your ego doesn't get hurt as much when you get killed by the same NPC boss for the 35th time than when some random human being kills you without dying for the 5th time?

I feel like a big wording choice that is somewhat misleading is constantly referring to this game just as another “early access” game, while true, I feel the context that this is a “early alpha playtest” changes a lot of feeling towards the game, especially in regards to points like the poor anti cheat,, which makes a lot more sense when you consider this is an early playtest

…. Valve is the Amazon of the gaming industry because all their IPs are so successful, they legit don’t need to update or care for their communities on a social level. With 350 employees, 1 billion USD in loot box sales per year (and growing) , the PC gaming monopoly that is Steam. … yet you are saying Valve will “mistreat” the IP? You mean the community. There is a distinction of what is neglected, the common caution should be “Remember , they are a company for profit” Even though I have fun with Valve still, it’s equally as importantly present.

As an outsider to the genre I can honestly say the biggest thing that's kept me from putting more time into the game is the match lengths. I know you said it seems like they've taken steps to shorten matches, but I'm often ending up in games that are 30 or 40 minutes and it's a bit too much of a time commitment for a single match, it certainly prevents me from playing 'one more game' rather often.

Valve can't trust themselves to know what audiences will like based on a guesstimate alone. Besides the complete failures of Artefact, Underlords and the arguable misfire of CS2's launch, they've also nearly messed up with "Neon Prime". They had to completely rewrite Alyx's plot when the game was already in a finished state. They were very confident with Artefact and even the early buzz for CS2 was positive... All that, while a strong negative sentiment from older Valve fans has already started building around Deadlock -- it had something to prove now. Whatever happens to Deadlock next, releasing Deadlock now wasn't a _poor_ decision on Valve's part, History will judge if it was the right one.

If they change the towers to how they are in other MOBA games, the game will be destroyed. Nobody, especially new players want to get back to 1h 30m games that are just a struggle at some point. (Yes higher elo will usually quit early. Won't happen tho if you get more than 2 Players in Promo-Games on the slightly losing team.) This game is meant to be fast paced. - And there are already quite a few people quitting because they get close to an hour per game in higher elo games.

Surprised you touched on the issue with MOBAs (pvp games in general really) but didn't really expand on it. The issue of a playerbase's skill floor being continuously raised and eventually that floor becomes far too high for anyone to scale. Yes yes, get in early now, but also stay on the treadmill and don't fall off. Don't take a 6 month break. I have no clue why TF2 is still approachable despite all this time passing but DOTA2 is impossible. Why can you still play Overwatch brand new but playing CoD as a newbie is like pulling teeth. I don't think it's as simple as mechanical complexity. There's something about how certain games are built that makes them insane (playerbase wise) after a certain point. Not sure if you'll explore that in a video but I think Deadlock's problem is less Valve not caring for it/supporting it and more like, this feeling you get when you play that just screams, "oh man, this is fun, after the first break I take from this, I won't ever get back on." Or maybe that's just me idk lol

@@delve9053 This thought process is what feeds into the problem y'know? Every argument about SBMM, every talk about meta shifts, every fight over bad matchups, they all come back to this thought that different skilled audiences should play different games. But this isn't true. The games that succeed and last are the ones that can pull the casual and the hardcore. The worst players and the best.
@cheesypoohalo

I'm not even sure you can play Overwatch brand new, if you go in brand new you're going to be doing a ton of 'what the heck just killed me?' because there are just so many characters and abilities and you need to know them all. A new player has to understand shooting Genji can get you killed if he reflects, how the invincibility mechanics work (e.g. Baptiste's immortality field), what all the ultimates do and how to counter them, etc. I've seen many games where players literally lose from bad picks, like playing Junkrat into Pharah and never switching to a hit-scan to counter her. Even basic things like learning to utilise Lucio's speed boost are lost on new players, they just sit on healing all game. The worst part is Overwatch, along with any game with a competitive focus, does practically nothing to teach players. If you want to learn Overwatch, you have to spend hours watching KZbin tutorials. At last with Call of Duty you can play a lengthy campaign to learn the basics, with Overwatch you just get thrown straight in with smurfs wiping the floor with you and yelling at you for getting sniped by a Hanzo arrow from across the map.

@@cheesypoohalo Surprising. I haven't played OW2, but I remember when I first started Overwatch 1, they threw me into a guided tutorial and then after that I had to queue into a bot match. They don't do this anymore? Edit - It was good enough for me to get the basics and because the roster was limited back then, I felt pretty competent going into real PvP. Not sure just how bad it's gotten.

@@Luther_the_Developer fighting games, CS, CoD, OW, DOTA, LoL, Halo, and any other series with competitive multiplayer faces these issues. i dont personally think that differently skilled people should play different games, but at the same time if you cant get to a baseline and it makes you angry then you should play something else because the game isnt made with your tastes in mind.
