I Love Growing Ginger In Raised Beds ~ Easy Peasy!

Last yr I decided to purchase 1 pkg of turmeric roots from Publicks Grocery Store, & it was setting behind my Air Fryer where the heat kept it warm. It began to grow nubs or small sprouts on it so I decided to cut the side out of a Deer Park water bottle out & try growing it. I placed the bottle on its side, leaving cap intact, filled halfway with dirt, laid the pc of turmeric on its side & covered with dirt. I kept it moist with water but not soggy & under my grow light panel & it sprouted up very nicely. I then transplanted it to a huge round 17gal tub filled outside with dirt & kept it watered really good. Talk about the prettiest, rich orange turneric!! When all the leaves & stalk turned brown & crisp, I harvested the stalks & laid them out on newspapers to cure, still with the dirt on them. This is another year and I still have some in my basement on the newspaper just like I harvested it. I have even given some to a friend recently that bragged on how potent & rich in color it was. With patience you can grow abt anything!

That ginger looks happy, and it is so good in my tea. So tell us about what ginger loves, water often, etc. And, when is it ready to harvest? Do the tops die off? I am using more larger containers, and not in the ground. Ohio is hot this week, the danger of frost is gone, and the nights that it was cold, it was windy, so frost was not an issue. I am also fond of garlic, and oregano is an antibiotic in my essential oil form. Ginger is good for gas, and can soothe an upset tummy, and in Chinese food it is AWESOME. Great choice! I will stick some in a special spot. I

My container ginger hasn't started growing yet. Right now I'm canning dill pickles from the garden and dill thin sliced green tomatoes. I want to use the tomatoes to combine the flavor of fried dill pickles with fried green tomatoes! Not sure if the fritter binding batter or seasoned cornmeal would be better. While the water's heating, I'm slicing red potatoes to dry can them. June is the month I feel most alive. Things growing. Me canning. God is so good!

When I saw your post abut “These attacks have got to stop.” Yesterday I was alarmed. I thought someone was attacking your family. Thank God that wasn’t the case. Given our current political situation now it was an easy quick thought. Hope you are being very careful. We also have cougars around here and a few bears but not on our back road lately. The last forest fires we had here destroyed so much animal living space. Raccoons live in a tree across the road they can be real pests I discovered in the past but not dangerous mostly just bandits eating pet food. But we can never be sure. I doubt if we can grow ginger here but I would like to try. Stay safe

You can probably plant it the same way as ginger. I just bought my yellow tumeric plant from Guerneys...so far so good but it came sprouted already; but should be the same as ginger. The tuber's with nodes send out shoots I placed my ginger in soil in a container in the house and set it on a heating mat a month before my last frost date (you could plant outside now). They are just now in May sprouting green shoots & it's now sitting on my shaded porch to get used to the temps. If you're growing from organic tubers you need to bury them in soil temp at least 75 degrees and high humidity + for them to sprout.

This is something I need to try. BTW Was wondering how your potatoes in the boxes were doing. Hope they are a success. I just got mine planted yesterday using boxes (2). I am also curious how your greenstalk planter is coming along. Would love to get one for lettuce and herbs but since you haven’t mentioned it since the original video I am afraid it was a bust. Be sure to rinse well if you buy grocery store ginger because its treated to prevent sprouting.....rinse well and then soak an hour or two before planting.... 😊

Many years ago I managed to successfully grow ginger in a pot. I had it for several years. It got left out during one very cold freezing winter night and I lost my ginger. I have not been able to get one started sine then. I keep trying, but no luck.

Wish I could do assure standard but the delivery I can’t meet up with them as I work 10-12 hr days during the week! And the person who does the pickup drop clearly states if your not there no refunds and your order is sold to who ever wants it! I know I can’t be there during the week so I am not loosing my hard earned $ . If they had a Saturday drop I would definitely order from them.
