Why does no one ever mention the fact that Jennifer's murder was also a representation of xual assault? The way it was set up, the way the group acted during, how Jennifer's personality and attitude changed after the fact, withdrawing, lashing out etc. That part of the movie always stuck with me with how raw the emotions felt. Something was taken from her and now she's taking her power back by hurting others.

@thebinlgbtisbabadook78324 жыл бұрын
In the reaction video that Dylan Is In Trouble made on Jennifer's Body almost all commentors kept pointing that metaphor out because Dylan laughed at the part where Adam Brody started stabbing Megan Fox. They kept telling him that laughing at the jokes Adam made before stabbing Megan was okay (i.e., getting the ritual incantation from Google) but laughing at the stabbing itself is offensive because it's like laughing at rape and sexual assault issues. I think people here / Trin's audience didn't point it out here that much because there's an unspoken, silent, mutual agreement that we all understand (including Trin) what the sacrificial scene meant, unlike in Dylan's Channel where he obviously didn't realize the metaphor.
@thebinlgbtisbabadook78324 жыл бұрын
Also, I don't know why you think "no one ever mention" the metaphor of Jenn's murder, because 2 KZbin videos have discussed it already (one is Jennifer's Body: The Effects of Bad Marketing, and the other was Jennifer's Body: Failure Revisited), not to mention the 2 J's B 10th anniversary interviews (back in Septembet and October 2019) conducted by ET and Hulu. In the ET one Megan Fox and Diablo Cody discussed that metaphor, and in the Hulu interview Megan Fox pointed it out. So I don't know why you think "no one" is ever pointing it out. Maybe you haven't watched the videos I mentioned? I do recommended you check them out. The comments in those videos are amazing, like one commentor even pointed out how the lyrics of the song Through The Trees looked like Needy's POV at first but when you sing it in Jennifer's POV it becomes heavier and more painful. Hope you'll visit those videos! 🤞 P.S. The Megan Fox episode of Eli Roth's History of Horror podcast also dived into the topic of Jenn's murder's metaphor and how Jenn's angsty and man-hating attitude could be because of an absentee father. Like Jenn is the possible negative outcome when a daughter grew up without a dad (insecure, angsty, and man-hating) and Needy was the possible positive outcome when a daughter grew up without a dad (more empathic, more patient, more loving). It's available in Spotify. 🙂

I gotta admit, even tho i was totally on Jennifer's side, i found her death scene very funny. Mostly because my family used to sing that corny ass song the band was singing **while committing murder** and it was really absurd to me. Then again, i kinda feel like Jennifer's Body goes for an absurdist dark humor vibe, while mostly not relying on racism or "problematic" stuff for punchlines. i actually really love the way this movie balances out comedy + horror + a genuine and sincere story that sets it apart from other campy teen horror films. the unsubtle metaphors re: the scummy band guys taking advantage of jennifer and how her experience is implied to have changed some part of her personality completely + how that view needy has of jennifer in the van is the last time she ever sees her truly alive. AND how the whole premise of seducing, killing, and eating boys can be viewed through the lens of jennifer taking back control of her body and sexuality, but never really being fulfilled by what is essentially just a facade of confidence and power. not to write a whole jennifer's body analysis in the comments but i was soooo obsessed with the underlying sincerity behind the writing and, like you said, you can really tell that this was a story written by a woman and not some weird dominatrix fantasy (like a lot of horror involving women as the "villain" seems to be). i feel like that sincerity gets so overlooked when people talk about this movie and i'm so mad that it flopped back when it first came out because no one back then had TASTE and could acknowledge megan fox as a great and intelligent actress

I remember when I saw this movie in theaters when it came out, I was a dumb 17 y/o boy who thought this film was reductive thanks to the kissing scene. Now, as a 28 y/o adult, I realize that, while momentarily setting aside some of the offensive stuff said, this film is fucking art. It's easily one of my top fave films of all times. Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are so funny and perf with their deliveries and comedic timing, my gosh.

(which might just mean something else but the way i took it she was comparing the smell of thai food to the gross smell of sex which is just...yeah.) and another offensive thing was when she was talking about someone being in "retard math", just little things like that that are very early 2000's edgy humor

I don’t really understand how Jennifer came to be a succubus. A lot of forums say she died in the ritual and then became possessed by one because it backfired since she wasn’t a virgin. However, when Jennifer explains to needy what happened to her that night and in the ending when she is stunned by the friendship necklace getting ripped off which symbolized her friendship and love for needy, how could it affect her and how could she have any memories of Jennifer’s life unless her actual soul became a succubus. I don’t believe she was ever possessed like everyone keeps saying I think she became a succubus.

I only rediscovered Jennifer’s body maybe like 3 or 4 years ago but what hit be so hard now as an adult is when she’s about to eat the emo boy but she murmurs “I need you frightened” it hit me so, so hard. I like savored that moment because it was like seeing the revenge I can never get on all the men who’ve touched me as a teen and as an adult, who’ve followed me, who’ve screamed at me terms I didn’t even know the definition of, who’ve broken my trust as professionals I thought had the best intentions, etc. They all made me scared, and scarred me as it continues to teach me this world is not made for women to feel safe. I just love, love, love, this movie. Had I been of age when it came out I would have defended it to my last breath lol

The difference is: you wanted revenge of the people who tormented you - she’s getting sadistic pleasure from killing the innocent. There’s a reason males have been criticized for watching slasher films for 40+ years: it helps them cope with certain aspects of their childhood and adolescence BUT it’s within the realm of horror and fictional murder. i'm sure this has been pointed out but i just wanted to really quick add that it's very much implied (perhaps stated?) that jennifer became a succubus because a virgin was required for the ritual, and she wasn't one, so rather than it working she became a demon (also i love love the underlying commentary on the toxicity of some female friendships and the way it subverts the way that women's bodies are just fodder within horror to being MEN'S bodies being the fodder, and the woman's brutal murder scene was the actual horrifying part, and also that it's kind of a story of how women are screwed over within the entertainment industry like i mean megan fox herself has said this was her absolute favorite role she's ever been in)
@plutopepsi5786 ай бұрын
I love that Jennifer’s murder was easily the most disturbing to watch while also being the least gory. We don’t see anything but their faces which is somehow so horrifying while also not making the female death into horror porn.
