She was the Original. Everyone that came after her walked in her footsteps. And Desi didn't get enough credit for changing the face of television comedies.
@defaultusername1235 ай бұрын
They get credit, just not sure if it’s still enough. They changed not just tv comedies but TV itself. Desi’s 3 camera shoots and smart scripts, Desilu’s producorial tastes (Star Trek for one), fostering young acting talent that then became stars of the 70’s and 80’s, Lucy carving the path for all successful TV actresses after her, broadcasting the first network show that caught on around the entire world. They really CHANGED the whole industry AROUND them. Not sure we’ll see anything like that ever again. R.I.P. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez

He was a genius and changed tv forever and maybe he was good with not getting all that credit, at the time. I think most people old enough know his contributions to Hollywood. He and Lucy lived quite well from the profits of this show and onto their kids. I loved how they thought it would be a one season wonder that they would show their kids in home movies.

I think about how incredibly difficult it must have been for Lucille Ball to be respected back in a day when women were actively fighting to be recognized for their talent and contributions to this country and world. She not only broke down walls, she set a standard for all male and females, in every aspect of the entertainment business. Her physical comedy, her timing, her delivery, were always all on point. The people around her just made her better and those around her were unbelievable talents too. I saw a Johnny Carson interview with Desi. He was so classy and truthful. He said, I give 90% credit for our success to Lucy. It’s such a shame that they could never find the true happiness in their personal lives that they portrayed on the TV’s across the world. May they all Rest In Peace.

I did it because with the tough days in a live feed network unit it can get pretty tense. Lucy had a way of helping us all start our day with a laugh, and it helped a great deal. When new hires would come in I'd explain that those tv's had to be on I love Lucy every morning, they thought I was kidding, until existing staff would say, no she's serious. That was a great question and answer about how she actually became more childlike and happy during ILL. In her interview about 8 or so years earlier with Barbara Walters, she spoke about the ILL set as a place she could "pretend" her marriage was actually that happy. It was sad to hear her say that, and you could see why she embraced the happiness that Gary Morton had offered her at a time when she most needed it. By the time of this interview, she had softened her criticism of Desi, but still made the point that his excesses could not be moderated and destroyed their marriage. It's always a pleasure to find"new" interviews like this one, and to know that she and Desi got so close again, especially near the end of their respective lives. Thanks for sharing.

Few years back, we started a TV watching ritual every night and eventually, began incorporating Black and White shows. I pitched The Twilight Zone because it is a classic show and I have some fond memories of seeing a couple of episodes (my 3rd-5th grade teacher showed us a few, hope heaven is nice Mrs. Crockett ❤️) and my mother pitched I Love Lucy. We ended up having it alternate between nights and after a while, I suppose I gree to love Lucy just as much as everyone else. This show’s comedy is timeless and I am so glad my mom exposed me to it. Appreciate your god damn parents more, too!

such professionalism, Im glad despite their divorce, Desi and Lucy continued as friends and remains in contact, sometimes things like that work out that way. That is the recipe of a good show, colleagues who greatly respect each other and work hard, as well as love their craft and have a knack for creating good chemistry between themselves and the characters they portray on screen. Also being on time, learning your lines properly and being able to have fun despite how hard the work is, also contributes well to a project of any kind.

I wish Aaron Sorkin could have captured this more joyful and upbeat side of Lucy in his movie. She is so delightful here.

Movie was awful - think the main actors were not good. Nicole Kidman felt plastic and Javier was not appealing at all either.

I was shocked that the film opened with a sex scene. Hardly our experience of the show.

My favorite is the club scene where he sings we’re having a baby. She was fighting back tears the whole song. It was supposed to not air because of that and the fact Desi messed up a few lines but it was agreed that that was the best take. I still get choked up at the end of that episode.

What great memories from when I was growing up in the 60s watching reruns of all the great I Love Lucy shows, watching it on my grandparents tv (we lived next door and had a/c) shelling beans and peas from the garden. And watching Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese call baseball games.

Lucy certainly had an eventful life. She was/is a very admirable person. She came from difficult circumstances, worked very hard and with determination she became an icon. She and Desi will always remain within our memories.

These people are so relatable. I wish I had met them. I wish I had been around in their time, but I can watch the shows and see how it was, and almost like you're there.❤ Even though the reruns, I hope the show never stops. It's amazing!❤
