On My 17th Birthday, I had a crappy day the entire time feeling exactly like this, friendless. I got to my grandmas for some good ole homemade meal and this episode came on and I cried, later that day I went to a friends house and he came out singing sound of music (16 going on 17) and a few friends came out for just a hangout. I didnt need a party I just wanted the people who cared. Today I turn 23 and I feel like that again, but im here celebrating with Lucy cause she'll never fail to make me smile

"The true meaning of friendship" Ironically, Barbara Pepper, Lucy's lifelong friend, is standing right behind her in this scene. Barbara's husband had been tragically killed in a car accident, leaving her a single mother. She became an alcoholic, gained weight and was destitute. Lucy gave her many bit parts on "I Love Lucy," so she could support her family til she got back on her feet. (She later was Mrs. Zeffel on Green Acres, the mother of Arnold the Pig!)

I’ve read stuff that has implied they divorced because they were together constantly at home and work and never got a break from each other, so they got on each other’s nerves. But I’ve never felt like they didn’t love each anymore, just didn’t love being married anymore. Lucy continued to be friends with Desi till they died I believe. Even when their marriage was close to failing, in the episode where they talk about how they met, during the comedy hours, Lucy and Desi both still look so in love with each other in the song, “that means I love you.” So I agreed, I think they just stopped loving being married. They were better friends than lovers I guess.

One very neat thing about this episode--way back in one of the first episodes (the one where the girls were fascinated by astrology), Lucy identified herself as a Taurus. Well, this episode's airdate was May 11, well within the Taurus sign. I have no idea if the writers did that on purpose or if it was a coincidence, but either way it's a great touch.

Really touching ending!!!!! Just watched the ending on MeTV, an the part where Mrs. Trumble tried to cheer her up.
