I Love Sonic 06

No matter how hot this take is I needed to get my opinion out there on why I love this game unironically as a genuine Sonic fan and hopefully whether you agree or disagree we can all hope the best comes to Sonic soon!

Shadow being a part of GUN makes perfect sense if you take the events of Shadow the Hedgehog challenge mode into account. Basically, after the Super Shadow story in that game, both GUN and Shadow come to terms, and he starts some training under them (there are plenty of voice-lines about this in that mode, with the general even inviting Shadow to his grandchild's birthday). When you consider that GUN doesn't trust Shadow completely, and Shadow doesn't trust GUN completely either, it makes sense for them to work together, to keep an eye on each other, and make sure the other keeps doing the right thing. From Shadow's point of view, after letting go of the past, what's the best way to keep Maria's promise if not joining the very organization that is meant to protect humanity? And if they ever show any signs of doing anything similar to what happened in the Ark, he'll be right there to stop them.

Actually no. It would be much more logical if Gun was reformed but in shadows image where the main Gun personnel are taken into custody and face lawful justice after their crimes on the colony ark being exposed to the world leaving shadow with the duty of leading the corporation with an iron fist or under someone else with good deeds, all while maintaining his promise to Maria. He could also oversee the space ark that works as a base for him and the rest of sonics gang like the justice league satellite.

Yea they could add that line in as some throwaway dialogue but the General was a victim of the same accident, the President more then likely know jack shit about the accident, and the people who did it either more then likely covered it up and then after some amount of odd years retired or died. Shadow would literally have more luck spotting someone at a concert from 50 miles away then actually finding out who ordered it. Now I’m not saying that they don’t deserve to stand trial but the actual likelihood of finding those people are slim (again anybody with even a lick of sense would definitely cover up their part in it and combine that with the amount of years that went by and yea very very hard to find that person)

Shadow's backstory from SA2, Heroes and Shadow the hedgehog is still canon in 06. In ShtH, he works with GUN to defend against the alien invasion, and after that, he decides to work for them with his friends Rouge and Omega. Him forgiving GUN for killing Maria and deciding to collaborate with them to safeguard the world is part of his character arc, like deciding to help save the planet from the Space Colony Arc, forgiving humanity, or fighting Mephiles even if he will be betrayed in the future.

@@Jill-pc2ho Takes place right after SA2 and no matter what anyone says the gameplay is rather similar to the speed stage aspect of the SA games. It also had this whole 3 thing going on with the logo and emblems making it feel like the third game if you put it side by side With SA1 and 2. The logo aesthetic for heroes js the same as the adventure games too. And it was the last game with the original adventure voice cast. So it feels like a natural third game. Despite what anyone says the game is essentially the speed stages with 3 characters at once with new gimmicks

I always thought that the reason why Shadow joined G.U.N was a way of showing that he let go of his past even though they invaded the ark and killed the professor and Maria, he put that behind him, forgiving them and thought joining them along with Rouge was good place to start fresh.

@@ItsNickForShort See this is why I love guys like you in the fandom I liked this game too it is a fun little buggy mess but if there's one thing I will give this game that it did perfectly and outstanding besides the music is Shadow's character my God they got him right in this game (no amenisa and no oh look I'm edgy) he cares for the new friends he made in Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure 2 his ark was truly handled well throughout these games minus (Shadow the Hedgehog) not to mention he was sort of a mentor to Silver. Man I really wish Shiro maekawa comes back to write Shadow again he wrote him in this game and SA2 not to mention one of my favorite Sonic stories Sonic and the black knight I know the storybook games have bad controls cause of the Wii but man the stories alone are worth watching on KZbin in both English and Japanese

While I would like to see Sonic return to stories like in 06, Lost World's story was good and the Deadly Six are good villains. Especially Zavok, who is up there with Mephiles as one of the darkest Sonic villains. They can be expanded upon even more if they're brought back, especially in a story setting like 06. They shouldn't just be left to rot. No character should be. THAT'S wasting potential.

The Deadly Six only work decently as a unit, because they are very underdeveloped as individual characters. In general, the characterwriting is the weakest part of the game by far.

@@lpfan4491 I partially disagree. Some characters were a lot more weakly written than others. Imo, Zavok, Zazz, and Zik were the best written of the Six. Zazz being the least well written of the three because he's mostly just "the crazy one," but he's also established as a great and loyal warrior to Zavok. Zik is the second best because he's the actual leader of the Six passing down that position to Zavok. He took Zavok in when he was young and trained him to be apart of the Six. Zavok obviously has a lot of respect towards him. Then there's Zavok, the best because not only has he proven to be worthy enough to take Zik's place, he's very serious and dark. Zavok is fine with slowly killing a planet and every civilization on it just to get back at Eggman. One guy. He could've just fought Sonic, but he wanted to mentally and emotionally crush him before physically killing him. I agree that the other's writing in the grand scheme is pretty weak, but they're still fun characters. You're right, they're still very underdeveloped. That's mostly because Lost World was their first appearance and they haven't officially appeared since. If they were brought back and expanded upon, they could all become even better. Just look at the comics, the Six are very developed there and it's amazing.

This video just came by my recommendations and, boy, was it a good watch. I used to hate Sonic 06 and what it represented and what it did to franchise back then, but recently I just wanted to start over and come with this game with an open mind. Sure it has the flaws, but one thing that was charming was the level of love and effort Sonic Team gave to this game. To be honest, I cannot find that love and care replicated since Unleashed and maybe Generations. I really wish Sonic Team just needs to look back in the Adventure games and find out what made them so special. Time will only tell when that will happen. Then again, amazing video. I can't believe this channel was under the radar. You just earned a sub!

I love ambition where it was visible in this game, and I feel like its pitfalls casted a lot of doubt on the company to discourage them from retaining gameplay and tone that gained a following in the Dreamcast era. The Boost games are good too, yet it's always easy to see what seemed to end in 2006 that only really needed some good trimming and a polish.

Shadow is the character who benefits most from including '06 in canon instead of considering it a reboot. Him working with G.U.N; the people who murdered Maria in the first place? It shows he's completely let go of the past, and shows he values his promise to his first and best friend over any personal grudges; he's working with a government agency that would make his mission to protect the world easier, giving him a support network and access to resources and intel that he wouldn't have otherwise. He learns in the game that using two Chaos Emeralds makes time travel possible; and doesn't even hesitate to help Sonic and everyone else use that knowledge to solve the current crisis and save the world. He could've easily tried to twist the portal to the past even further back and to a different location. But he doesn't. In previous games, his urge to go back to the ARK of the past and save Maria would have been overwhelming, but he's now far more mature. He doesn't want to derail his own promise, everyone else's friendships, risk giving Silver an even worse future, or everything else that could arise out of the potential butterfly effect of what saving Maria could cause. He's completely put aside his own desires for the sake of the world and his friends. At that point, he's the most mature character in '06, and most likely the entire franchise. And the ending of his own third of the game? Well, you know that chef's kiss meme? Yeah, that. Using the inhibitor rings, protecting Rouge and Omega as they get out of there instead of trying to fight every last clone like how modern Shadow & Omega would, not letting Mephiles' words get to him, being a biggity badass and just using his pseudo-super aura to slap aside what few clones are in his way... And that LINE! Like I said in my first point, he's only working with GUN because of the convivence it offers his mission, he'd still be completely willing to protect the world even without government support, and even with them actively hunting him down. Even if public opinion turns on him, he knows he'll always have his friends; and he won't stop protecting people just because some have started resenting him.

I always found the music production style they used for this game (particularly the in-game tracks-- the cinematic music is more "traditionally" orchestral) to be really interesting. It's not just as simple as having a live orchestra to back all the game tracks -- although that certainly helps -- there seem to be a lot of subtle techniques they used (and, more importantly, didn't use-- you'll see) to make all the songs in game sound like they're being performed live. I can't speak to everything they did but from my own music and production background I do have some pretty good ideas of how some of it was done. Warning, this is some technical discussion, but it might still be interesting for some people :P The emphasis was clearly on real instruments and drums -- depending on the song those real instruments were either the full orchestra or just electric guitar and bass. Sometimes the still one had the other in the background, sometimes not. Synthesizers and drum machines were still used plentifully but their tones were, outside of the few songs where electronics were the main element, kept extremely simple. One thing it almost never did was to have the focus of a composition on a mix of those elements -- saaay, for a totally definitely not-at-all-from-sonic-unleashed example, a song where the main elements were a rhythm guitar playing chords and a string section playing lead. I can only think of one level track from '06 off the top of my head that came anywhere close to doing something like that, and even in that one the bass is really the dominant instrument. This sets it apart from later games in the series that used full orchestras, where the symphonic and rock elements were always mixed much more freely. Very few audio effects were used apart from a few delay throws and the odd bit of additional reverb. Instead, it all seems to have been recorded "dry" in a concert hall emphasizing the room's ambience. What really makes this part different from the soundtracks for previous and subsequent Sonic games is that almost no compression was used at all. Stereo fields in the final recordings were kept fairly wide, which is also unusual compared to past games. One of the most interesting parts is how most of the synthesizers and drum machines seem to have been routed through amplifiers and recorded with microphones, rather than being routed directly into the sound system like you'd usually do in a live or studio setting. I would imagine that they were still largely recorded after the other musicians had finished playing, to avoid feedback (since the main reason you'd plug them into the sound system in the first place is to avoid feedback). All of this combines to make a soundtrack where even the most obviously synthetic parts sound like they're grounded in reality-- and arguably it sells the game's aesthetic better than the visuals do. (If anyone has any ideas for what else they might have done, or thinks I'm wrong about some of this, feel free to say so. It's my best guess based on how I think I would achieve a similar sound if I had access to the same resources.) TL;DR the composers and producers on the game's music took extreme care to make each of the gameplay songs sound not just cinematic, but as if it was actually being played live.

I played this game LOOOONG after it came out, and literally my impression of the game can be summed up with: "THIS is what people get so bent out of shape over?" It's like the reverse of seeing a mediocre movie that's been praised by everyone around you - it had flaws, sure, and it was clearly unpolished, but it was a still a decent - I dare say GOOD - game. Perfectly playable, any glitches you run into normally (i.e. not forcing them) are weird and funny, but not obstructive or inhibitive, and it's got a solid amount of content and replayability. I love the story, and am just sad it's never gonna get expanded on now. The gameplay isn't my prefered style of Sonic gameplay, but it has its own merits and the levels are designed well around it so even if I'd prefer the gameplay in the Adventures or in Shadow, I can't say '06's is bad. And I have no idea how the fuck people find Soleanna to be confusing, it's such an easy place to figure out. Overall, I went into expecting an unredeemable dumpster fire because, well, that's what people refer to it as, and I just got an enjoyable experience with some little nitpicks and areas of mild annoyance. The only things I outright hated were the second ball puzzle in Silver's Dusty Desert, and the Car Festival mission. It doesn't even fall into 'bad but I can appreciate what they were doing', it's just a good game that is let down by a lack of polish.

YEAH SAME WITH ME!! Sonic 06 was actually the very first sonic game I had ever played as a kid. i was probably 6 or 7 at the time So I possibly played it in 2010 or 2009. I loved the game. Like honestly loved it, as a kid, I thought people genuinely like 06 but years later coming to find out it’s being hated on, I was just..so confused. Like, why? Then I saw videos on the reasons such as glitches, story writing and ect, and then it hit me. but OMG sonic 06 is tolerable compared to sonic boom and Colors ultimate!

In hindsight, one thing Sonic '06 does right is that everyone actually does something in this game. You actually get to play as the characters, they're actually important, they matter unlike, say, in Sonic Forces, where it SEEMS like a game where everyone would matter, but instead you get two Sonics and a random OC. Everyone else? NOPE. Ditto to Sonic Boom at least giving characters other than Sonic something to do.

My favorite line from Sonic is “it was never about chivalry for me. I just gotta do what I gotta do, that’s all” This was always so impactful to me cause he’s saying he doesn’t care about any code. He just wants to do the right thing. Even if (as it almost did at that moment) it killed him. That is the mark of a true hero imho. Unfortunately 06 got such bad reception and Sonic Team and Sega learned all the wrong lessons from it. I’m sorry but I’d rather 10 more of these and 10 More years of “the dark age” over even one more year of “the meta era”. Colors was fine enough but the problems showed through in that game too. From 2013 with lost world it was just down hill from there. Things look like they’ll be getting better now though. We can finally say goodbye to Pontac and Graff and I’m confident that Prime and the game series moving forward will be finally getting back on track with the franchise. Time to stop being so scared of 06 and move on. Great work dude, earned a sub from me. Keep it up mate!

I never thought of this game as a reboot at all, because I can perfectly see it happening after the Adventure duology, Sonic Heroes, the Advanced Trilogy, and Sonic Battle. In fact, it also serves as a logical follow up to the ending of Shadow the Hedgehog. Also the character interactions in the game imply that these characters already had history together.

“Just smile.” Honestly, I dabbled a little bit with SA1 as I found a Dreamcast during a family vacation in 2000-something. It was pretty fun to play! But I remember watching Sonic’s Story as a compilation somewhere on KZbin. It made me biased towards his character portrayal, how his compassion and friendliness worked alongside his do-good-ism and bad-egg kicking. I didn’t get any of the time travel stuff back then, but I didn’t need to. I wasn’t playing the game when solely seeing the videos; I was only along for the ride. And I think that’s what Sega wanted for the kids playing the game... if only it wasn’t rushed.

One thing I liked about Mephiles looking like and being connected to Shadow was that, in a raw sense, Mephiles could totally be what Shadow could have become if he let himself be hardened against humanity, and having the potential to become the destruction of the world, like some of the non-canon endings in Shadow's game, and the "30 Years Later" arc in the Archie comics. _Also, the time travel in the game was serviceable; it's just one of those cases where you have to just go along with the ride for the narrative. I think the one series that did time travel the best, and is my favorite series in general, has to be Legacy of Kain - now THAT is how you do time travel._ *Also*, are you playing this on Xenia? I noticed the graphical glitches at around 31mins and remember that happening in that emulator XD I have and completed the game on the PS3, but played it on Xenia to try out mods like Legacy of Solaris. Anyway, always nice to find someone else that enjoys this game; definitely one of my favorite in the series to replay (I personally enjoyed Silver's gameplay), despite its issues; it was the last in the series that I truly cared about and was sad that they never revisited the Adventure formula or the tone.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can try to explain why suddenly more and more 06 apologists are coming out. Sonic 06 is a bad game. It was rushed, came out full of bugs, and before fixing games with patches after launch became a common thing. But it had ambition. It tried to make a decent game, but to make THE sonic game of the new generation. It tried to use the adventure formula, several playable characters, a serious storyline, a new main character, hub worlds to try and make Soleanna feel like a real place, bigger stakes with Solaris as the final boss... And sadly, it failed. Now, we live in the post 06 world, and we have seen what it leads to. I've seen a lot of people praise Unleashed, Colors and Generations, only to criticize Sonic Forces and wonder why after such "quality", this last game is so mediocre and bland. And I don't get it. Forces is the logical endpoint of the boost games. A mediocre game relying on stupid gimmicks to even engender interest. No ambition, no desire to bring the franchise into a new era, the bait of a more "serious" story only to be one of the worse yet. Since Unleashed, we have seen the storylines become blander and blander, or even virtually non-existent (Generations). We have seen fewer and fewer characters interact with Sonic, let alone the plot, let alone be playable. The werehog was a nice try to mix things up, but after it, the only new playable characters have been classic sonic (how new and original!), the avatar (sonic with a gun, and a shitty customizable gimmick), and shadow in a DLC (sonic with a paint job). Every new character has been an embarrassment: Chip (altho I'll admit it had a decent end I guess), the Deadly Six, and Infinite. Compare them to actual decent characters: Tails (Sonic 2), Knuckles (Sonic 3), Tikal and Chaos (SA1), Shadow (SA2), the Chaotix (Heroes, where they were reintroduced and fleshed out), and Silver (06). Now on the gameplay. Boost games have been becoming lazier and lazier, and as i said before, Forces is the logical endpoint of that. Sonic has never been (mechanically at least) a game only about speed. It's a platform game that allows you to go fast if you know what you are doing, with some set pieces that force you to go at high speed and maintain it. Sonic Team understood that up until 06. After that, the games have been turning into lane runners akin to Temple run and other mobile games, or (since Colors) into 2D games, which shouldn't be in mainline 3d Sonic games. Both of these styles of design are so prevalent because designing 3d maps to navigate while being able to go fast is hard, and Sonic Team doesn't any of it. Instead, they just give you 3 lanes to run in and (maybe) some obstacles, or turn the game into 2d stages. Sonic Generations was even worse: the game was already half 2d because of the nostalgia gimmick, but then modern Sonic is also half 2d because of what I said before. That makes SG, a mainline 3d sonic game, a game where 3/4 of its gameplay is 2d. And that's not all. No new stages, no story. No ambition at all from the developers. And that's how we got Forces. The community or fanbase or however you want to call it didn't lower the bar. They just threw it into the ground, and when Forces came out they wondered "What happened?". That's why, after 15 years of stagnation of mechanics, shitty plots, flanderization of characters, decaying level design philosophies, and cutting out of everything that could be a risk (extra characters that aren't literally a slightly different version of Sonic), some people are coming back to 06 and appreciating what it tried to do but failed. Sonic 06 did fail, but not because Sonic Team (back then) were hacks. They were working with new hardware, their team was split in 2 to make a Wii game at the same time, and they weren't given more time. The game HAD to come out for Christmas of 2006. No one will deny the game came out unfinished. But at least it had ambition and soul, and you can tell the devs tried to do what they could up until the last second. Forces and 06 are fascinating to compare because they are both failures for completely different reasons. 06 had really high expectations. It was expected to be the next adventure for a brand new generation of consoles. Forces had barely any, people only expected it to not be a broken mess. Forces spent more time in development, didn't have to make any big technical leaps like 06, and had a far less problematic development, and it still came out as a mediocre 2-3 hour-long game, overshadowed by what is essentially a fangame. And that's why people are starting to admit or realize that 06 while still a mess, deserves more than what it got. Also, Sonic 06 has the best music.

This is the only game that Shadow is an agent for GUN for some reason. Team Dark not appearing in Unleashed & the entire 2010s Decade caused all the progress from 06 for Shadow to be abandoned with the exception of Sonic Chronicles which was made noncanon because of Ken Penders. As for Silver it should be noted that he's separated from Sonic & Shadow by time (as well as the backlash of 06) which makes him more of a 4th Hedgehog in a series that started only valuing Sonic himself. Blaze had a much more impactful role in the Rush Games that made her every bit Sonic's equal to where it seems more likely that Silver would be her sidekick.

I would disagree with the Silver bit. Sonic is easygoing and carefree. In SA1 Chaos had been trying to kill Sonic the entire game, and while they did fight, Sonic never seemed to have any animosity or grudge against him. In SA2, Sonic and Shadow had a petty rivalry for the entire game that culminated in them admittedly growing a mutual respect for each other, but still having an all out fight on the ARK, with Shadow outright intending to kill him. Despite this, Sonic doesn't really question it much when Shadow has a change of heart. Even in Heroes, after defeating Metal, Sonic is relatively friendly and chill about it. Sonic just accepting that something caused Silver to be on their side now isn't out of character, at least not for the portrayal of the character at the time.

Excellent video! This game was the whole reason I sold my Gamecube copies of SA1, Gems collection, Heroes, SA2, and Shadow (i still am angered at my 5 year old self about that) back in 2005 for an Xbox 360. I personally think this game has the best if not some of the best level design, in the franchise, especially for the adventure era. People forget that because of its negative reception, unfortunately. Very excited to replay this soon enough, also if you haven't checked it out....P-06 is a quite sexy remaster of 06, highly recommend it.

I just want to say first that I appreciate you went through this video WITHOUT needlessly shitting on any of the other Sonic games. I am seeing that a lot with these "[Sonic game that people malign] was actually good" videos that people are making now. And it just makes it impossible to take the praise seriously. "People say suchandsuch Sonic game sucks, but I'm going to prove it doesn't suck and that their complaints are wrong!.... by saying this OTHER Sonic game sucks and complaining about it the same way people complain about this one." It's a weird, dumb trend, and you managed to make a video lifting Sonic 06 up without putting some other Sonic game down, so good job with that. I also agree with all your praise. I would add that something I love about Sonic's story is he never learns ANYTHING about the wider conflict with Iblis and Mephalis. To him, the story of Soleana was just saving a princess from typical Eggman shenanigans. And yet his influence helps Shadow and Silver solve their own conflicts which bring about the savior of the world and timeline. I just love The Man Who Knew Too Little style protagonists like that, Evil Within had vibes of that too. My personal view about Sonic 06 was that it WAS an alternate universe/timeline considering its reboot origins. But then Generations MADE it part of the Prime timeline, because the Time Eater was a 5th dimensional entity that dragged it into alignment with the normal timeline. Like taking two rivers running parallel, and diverting the land so they combined together. (If you know Elder Scrolls lore, basically Generations was a The Warp In The West style dragonbreak for the Sonic universe?) Shadow becoming an Agent for GUN always made sense to me after Shadow the Hedgehogs events. The commander of GUN was someone who was close to and loved Maria, just like Shadow. Shadow blamed GUN for Maria's death, the commander blamed Shadow for her death. When they both came to the truth of what happened, they managed to put aside their blame and grief and move on. So it always figured to me that the Commander would WANT Shadow to join him in GUN, and Shadow would want to become part of the organization to put his skills to use protecting the planet, ect. Shadow is definitely the best part of this game too. I love imagining Shadow having to do taxes since he's an employed government worker as a GUN agent =P (not sure how sonic twitter supposedly makes him an edgy meme when in that same clip he talks about opening a cat orphanage and shit like that) Also they don't need an explanation of why the cast "remember" Silver because they met him in Sonic Rivals btw. He's got a really fun characterization in Team Sonic Racing that I hope they stick with for him. I don't think he needs to be "explained" for why he's around. Rivals establishes they just Have Time Travel in the future, so he can just show up whenever for whatever reason. He's basically a combination of Future Trunks and Cable in terms of story functionality. He definitely deserves his own game. Maybe a child friendly version of Psi-Ops the Mindgate Conspiracy or something. Overall I definitely think this game gets a bad rap, and it's not nearly as bad as people say it is. Like, it's bad. but it's not nearly as bad as people say. I get to say it's bad, because I've fucking beaten it and even S ranked most of the levels. Some chucklefuck lets player who spent his entire 2 hours of playtime for some meme video, with the controlled shoved down their pants during the entire playtime, doesn't get to tell me this game is bad, and I'm sick of hearing this game constantly being used as a punching bag when there's COUNTLESS games that are far far worse. In an industry where Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk 2077 exist, people are officially not allowed to act like this game is somehow special in deserving the reputation it gets. Like every Sonic game it has more to love than to hate, and even if I get annoyed at the form it takes, I am glad to see a new wave of people voicing their appreciation for this game. Personally, I think Shadow working for GUN makes sense, even despite what GUN did to Maria. Maria didn't hold any grudges, nor did she want Shadow to hold any grudges, and Shadow holds Maria's wishes above all else. Yes GUN did Shadow wrong, but having close connections to GUN gives him easier access to fulfilling Maria's wishes. I think it's 100% in character for Shadow to put his grudge aside for Maria.

Pretty much everything that you have been saying in this video... I have been feeling towards this game recently. Growing up, I used to have a love/hate relationship, with Sonic 06. It was the first game, that I have ever played, to cause me such legitimate anger while trying to get through it. I haven't touched the game, in such time, until the beginning of this year, 2021. Well, I still can't fully believe this, but playing the game again, it's as if all those past feelings that I had for it, have been flown out the window. And my current feelings for this game, are pretty much 100% in sync with yours. It's not my favorite Sonic game, but it does have a lot to love about it. 6:58 If I remember correctly, Rouge actually was an agent for the president first in Sonic Adventure 2, then worked for the government in Sonic Battle, and had just become an agent in Sonic 06, but I could be wrong. 7:05 The canonicity of a lot of things in Shadow the Hedgehog are questionable, but some things like the Shadow androids seem to be canon due to the dialogue in the Devil Doom (Final Doom?) boss fight and other things, insinuating that the canon route leading up to the final ending is a mix of a few or all of the paths in Shadow the Hedgehog. In the semi-hero paths, Shadow meets the G.U.N. commander who also loved Maria a lot, so they have common ground there. The G.U.N. commander believed Shadow was responsible for everyone's deaths aboard the arc and forgave Shadow, as Shadow didn't even remember doing so, and if the commander was right and Shadow was responsible for their deaths and was a danger to humanity, then Shadow would find the commander once again and respectfully accept his fate. In the semi-hero hero ending, Black Doom tells Shadow that their deaths were Shadow's fault and he was a monster, so Shadow defeats Black Doom and walks off in a deep depression (and the situation and the credits music for that ending also imply he may or may not have been going off to have his life taken away from him by the G.U.N. commander.) But I don't think the G.U.N. commander would have killed him. I think he would have taken pity on Shadow for being a depressed amnesiac and thought Shadow might not be all that bad from how he handled both interactions. Anyway, in the expert mode of Shadow the Hedgehog, the president talks to Shadow almost like a friend, but more importantly, the G.U.N. commander radios in and talks to Shadow as well, saying, "Shadow, do you read me? First, I... I want to... apologize, for the other day... Actually, I just became a grandfather last week, and I was thinking of maybe having you over. I know that training is tough... but try and do your best." But again, the canonicity of this is questionable, but I think everything involving the G.U.N. commander is relatively canon or has a modified version of it canon due to Shadow working for G.U.N. in the exact next game. It just makes sense. Anyway, I hope that clears it up a little bit, but I apologize for my rambling. I really liked your video, thanks for listening, and have a nice day.

The president wanting information that GUN has already makes clear that they are not working with him in that game despite technically being supposed to be in the same system. Only in shadow did they join forces. About rouge, she started working for GUN around the time of Shadow too, so maybe they hired her because of her prior history.(Afterall, there is no way they know she was part of blowing up prison island, because only a few people saw her on a very busy day and everyone was blown up a few minutes later)

One thing I've noticed about time travel plots is that the ones that only work in one direction seem to be much better received. Stuff like Madoka, Steins Gate, Re:Zero, One Piece, and I think Groundhog Day all have time travel, but it only allows for going backward or forward in time. The characters as portrayed in this game are simply likable. Sonic isn't an annoying chatter box that keeps regurgitating bad, kindergarten level puns, Knuckles isn't an idiot, Tails isn't a coward, Shadow and Omega aren't edgelords, Rouge isn't a backstabbing b**ch. Even Eggman, as bad as his design is, is NOT a total joke of an antagonist. You're not inclined to ignore him to focus on a clearly more threatening villain. He's not "baldy nosehair". He's a real threat that forces you to split your attention between Mephiles, Iblis and himself. Forces, though flawed, has a vastly better attempt at story telling than anything Pontac and Graff ever attempted. In Forces, Eggman can't even compete with one extra villain, which is supposedly his creation. In Sonic 06, Eggman competes with not one, but TWO villains, born of a God. I keep hearing people get annoyed at the phrase "Sonic 06 at least tried" and telling me that it doesn't make the game any better. Yes, actually it does. Likeable characters and real stakes can pull you through a bad game by tickling your curiosity. You know what Sonic Colors did? It annoyed me from start to finish, it's the only game where I just skipped the cutscenes and I had to force myself to go through those horrid levels to justify the money I spent on that trash fire. So Sonic Colors has bad levels that make the polished gameplay utterly useless, horrid controls that should exist on modern consoles and a story that not only bored me to tears, but actively annoyed me and made me feel like I was having my time wasted. Notice that I'm not talking about issues specific to the "Ultimate" version, aside from the controls.

I am glad that there is more than me who love this game as well. It's because of this game that I got into the franchise more, outside of Sonic X that is. You made great points about your love for the game especially when you called it a serious story, which makes sense now because with Frontiers changing the characteristics of their characters then, makes me wonder why everyone else would hate a serious game like this. As for Sonic's story, I love that about this game. It may be weak to you, or others can say other things, but I love how heroic, selfless, devoted, loyal, and a bit charming he was. People can call out "it stupid, he shouldn't have to rescue her" or something, but he's the HERO. He has a big enough heart to know if someone is in trouble, "someone has to help." (From Big Hero 6) Don't know if you see a Disney Show "The Legend of Tarzan," basically if you know Disney's Tarzan, it follows Tarzan, his love Jane, and all their friends and family's adventures after, but one of my favorite episodes is one called "City of Opar." It kind of follows a Jane plot where she is insecure about how Tarzan always saves her and how she can't hardly match his jungle exterior. But Tarzan and friends soon become trapped, and it was up to Jane, and thought of a plan without having jungle traits, just smarts and outwits. At the end, Tarzan is grateful and calls out "Jane is the best." It shouldn't matter how tiring or repeating a hero saves a loved one, for when you know someone is rare and loves someone as crazy as you, you would do anything for them. Plus, if jungle strength isn't what they are attracted to, maybe someone likes you for your clever mind and kind heart, those kinds of strength matter the most. Above all, I love Sonic and Elise's relationship, even done romantically. Why not have a kiss be a strong key to resurrect the dead? Unorthodox, but I mean it's sweet; love conquers all you know. I believe that to be the emeralds power. And if anyone points out "he's a hedgehog and she's a human," then why does Disney promote human Belle with her cursed prince as an animal type? Bottom line, very happy with your review

And while I’m here Ima do a short explanation of shadow, he joins gun because he forgives and accepts his past, shadow knows he can’t do anything about the past but he understands he can do good for the future. But this was a amazing watch and a amazing game for me, even though glitches were and underdeveloped gameplay was pretty bad.

What this game comes down to is everyone parroting opinions they heard online. Got it for Christmas 2006 and honestly didn’t think it was that bad. Sure, I noticed the glitches, but I also noticed tons of them in SA 1 and 2 as well. I remember one time playing Radical Train and realising that I was having as much fun as I did playing SA 2.

@@EdgyQueen I would say that’s the only thing they did right in 06 (for tails). They limited his flight ability. Probably too much though since Tails drops like a rock after letting go of the jump button during his flight.

i am obsessed with this video and i agree with basically everything here. although there is one thing i cant let go, even though i definitely can understand and even agree with arguments in favor of it, is shadow working for GUN. it makes sense if 06 was a hard reboot, but i really cant understand why he would work for GUN after what happened on the ark. i think theres a way he can keep maria's promise, and my ideal version of that is him and team dark working as a sort of vigilante group thats foremost goal is doing good no matter what. they take on their own missions and do what they need to do. i think shadow can still maintain that kindhearted heroism in this sort of role. but again i definitely love 06's characterization and its my favorite in the series by far.

I love Sonic '06, too. It has my favourite Sonic character, Silver. It has an interesting story and it was a great ending to the Adventure series. If you don't get what I mean, depending on how I group the games, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog belong to a single canon, being the Adventure arc.

My Known Sonic '06 Positive Opinions 1. Is is my second favorite Sonic game of my six favorite Sonic games. 2. The game was just made for 15th anniversary and intended to be a reboot for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. 3. Adventure/Open world gameplay than just linear gameplay. 4. The other characters than only one character are also playable in the story. 5. There are similarities, elements and references just from my best favorite Sonic game Sonic Adventure. 6. Some of characters '06 designs are better than the Modern designs and 3D graphic are better than most other Sonic games' 3D graphic. 7. The characters sharing one story from each perspective of it. 8. Darker and edgier. 9. The soundtrack. 10. One of the longest Sonic games. 11. Silver the Hedgehog, a new hedgehog with telekinesis powers and his design. 12. Mephiles is one of my favorite Sonic villains, who just killed my favorite Sonic character Sonic. 13. One of the rare child-friendly media I have seen a human is romantic attracted to an anthropomorphic animal I wanted to see and just learned why I have rarely seen it because of Zoophilia/Bestiality. My Known Sonic '06 Negative Opinions 1. Were some glitches. 2. The loading take time and even loading for small town missions. 3. The humans are realistic and not semi-realistic or anime-esque style. 4. Sega didn't finish the game because of 15th anniversary. 5. No Sonic '06 remaster. 6. Cream the Rabbit didn't also appear in the game. 7. Amy still had shorter hair than in later games. 8. Some of the characters don't also use some of their other known skills and moves. Tails don't use tail combat and driving plane, Knuckles don't use digging, Amy don't use other hammer attack moves and Rouge don't use kick combat and digging. 9. Sonic '06 didn't become a reboot which was just meant to be for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and Sonic the Hedgehog: Awakening which probably both was just meant to be a sequel of Sonic '06 was cancelled because of the poor reception of Sonic ’06.

I can actually explain why Shadow is working for G.U.N in canon. He actually started working for them in the Shadow the Hedgehog game many overlook this. The G.U.N Commander actually offers Shadow to join to patch up the things that happened to Shadow in the canon story Shadow then becomes allies with both him and the President. This dialogue is unlocked in the extra Shadow missions after you A rank the Shadow stages. As for Shadow being an android this is also explained in the Shadow game not in cutscenes though however for some reason. In the final boss against Black Doom if your fighting Black Doom for long enough Eggman will admit that he lied about telling Shadow he was an android and that one of his robots had saved Shadow after the Ark incident. 06 kinda continues the story of Shadow being his own man that the Shadow game introduced. Black Doom manipulated Shadow with the past and Mephiles uses the opposite tactic the future after Shadow vowed to not be affected by the past anymore. Mephiles probably could have tricked the Shadow from the Shadow game but Shadow by 06 had matured and refused to be manipulated again

Yah know, after thinking about how Sega's attitude became, in reaction to the consumers' opinion of this game, had influenced the later games, I wish someone could've gone back in time and either, 1 Somehow convince Sega to make it StH 2007, or 2 Give a warning about overblown reactions causing longterm damage. Don't get me wrong, Sega shouldn't have rushed the game for the holidays, but considering some of the latest games we got didn't have the charming stories we craved, it could've been a better reaction. I'm really happy you shared your opinion, it gives me hope that not everything can be all bad, and I'm incredibly thankful for it. I just wish they did more with Silver because he's my favorite character.
