The famous Polaroid SX70. I saw one demonstrated by Mr. Land himself the summer of 1970, a year before camera was released for sale. I just happened to be walking by the Polaroid building in Boston, and he was showing a small group of men the SX70. I stopped to watch. It was so unusual I didn't even know it was a camera. He was making the point to his business colleagues that anyone could operate it, so he stepped out of the group and handed the camera to me and told me to take their picture. So I did. The camera scrolled out a photo that was fully developed in just a minute. I was amazed, and so were those business men. In a later decade I came across one in a second hand shop and got it. Used it for about 15 years, until digital cameras got affordable in the late 90s. I recently gave mine to a neighbor who collects old cameras.

That stuff on the outside might not be real leather but it does react to a good leather conditioner. Mine had some cracks. I applied some conditioner and it expanded and looks like new

Mr Land's idea was to have it in a jacket/blazer style outer pocket. Like a tablet size today.

There were some earlier versions of the first sx-70s that didn't ever split focusing. Edwin Land didn't originally want to have one. He lost that battle with the customers. I'm sure they probably thought people wouldn't be as concerned about it with the auto focus models.

im late to the party i see.. but your portraits on this camera are amazing.. how are you able to shoot in broad day with proper exposure? etc.. ive been searching for photos like this and most people have blown out images. is this the original SX70 or is this the SLR670? i notice a lot of people choose the slr670 for the sake of having control

Great video. Just got my own sx 70 alpha 1.

Jay. First of all, the portraits you get on this camera are the best I've seen of any demo. A quick question, I thought these cameras for the lower ASA rated film. Does yours take 600 ISO film because it has been refurbished to do so? You're not using an ND filter or anything like that?

Love this : thanks for all the information on the attachments. I’m now part of the SX-70 Fan Club & bought my first one off eBay for £20 two days ago. I can’t wait for it to arrive!! Stay safe 🙏🏼

It will be genuine leather as that is what they used back in the 70s

Thanks a lot for this video. Excuse me, maybe you can help me with my SX70 (black, model 2). All the outdoors pics I take get "burnt", even if underexposure, and doesn't mind if is morning, afternoon… I don't know what's happening (I always protect it from the light when the camera out the picture). I'm starting to think there's a problem with the light meter. Indoors pics are ok… Many thanks in advance :)

It sounds like a photodiode problem it’s exposing. You can compensate by removing the ND filter in the front of sensor and replacing it with clear plastic

@@jaybourdier3791 Thank you very much, Jay!! But I afraid to do it…! Do you know some technical service in Europe for this? I'm from Spain

I got the sx-70 on eBay and the first 2 shots the camera was fine, press the button it would take a picture no problems. but now when i press the button the viewfinder goes black and stays like that for a few seconds then flips back up and spits the picture out. could it be a low battery, or is it a camera problem? Thank you.
@ChicagoHypebeast5 жыл бұрын
It's possibly the battery but is sounds like the shutter is having issues. Does the picture come out exposed properly?

Hey man, I think your videos on Polaroid gear are great! Only issue is that they are a bit long. Try scripting what you say rather than word vomit and maybe get some B-roll shots with voice over of the gear itself rather than just a selfie cam of you talking. Try keep videos within 4 and a half minutes and I think they would be really enjoyable to watch! Good luck :)

John Smith I agree I’ll try working on that for any upcoming content.
