Great work on these videos, and thank you for this. As the initiator of the TQT it warms my heart to see how much you appreciate the route, next time you should try « la route du nord », seeing the manic 5 Dam is something you won’t forget

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this trail. Thank you so much for your effort on this. A trail like this, that opens up such beauty and wonder is fantastic. And the way it is organized is so satisfyingly stress free, which is the part I love the most. Being able to ride the trail and be free to absorb the land and views without worry is such a great way to experience Quebec. Thanks again.

Very nice series! Thanks for that. I’ll certainly be doing it in 2025 when i retire. 2024 will probably be northern Québec. Beginning north of LaTuque, Lac St-jean and then north to Abitibi. Cheers from Cowansville, Québec!

Thank you. I'd love to see more of Northern Quebec, either on the bike or just travelling into the Arctic along Hudson Bay. It sounds like you have a lot of good adventures lined up for retirement. Safe travels, fellow adventurer.

It was a great spot. And I guess there is an even better wild camp up in the mountains near this area too. A viewer sent some photos and the view from that one is spectacular.

The coldest camping I was occured on the Cassiar Hwy in Northern BC. Woke up so cold I was shaking/trembling & could barely open my saddle bags to grab my hoodie to put it on to wear inside my sleeping bag. I wanted to find a room but everything was booked and it was getting dark then I came across a nice Provincial Campground. In the morning I did a 5km hike in my hoodie and full motorcycle gear just to warm my body back up enough to ride. Ended up leaving before the attendant came by to collect money and no self serve option either. When I hit the road not 20km further there was a motel with cafe. They had good coffee and I continued to warm up meeting the owners, wish I knew about them the night before but without cell service it just wasn't possible.

Wow, that would be scary. In the middle of the night, I could start to feel the slightest cold spot, and I knew that it was going to be tricky, so I started adding insulation. My coldest night camping was also my coziest, actually. It was my buddy, Brandon, and myself during a late fall exercise for work 2.0. We slept in hammocks in the woods, and it was snowing really good. We all used both sleeping bag layers (both goosedown) and our gortex bivvy bag AND our sleeping mats. I was sooo warm and comfy. Best hammock sleep every. Thanks for the story man.

Thanks, man! I really enjoy making them, that's for sure. Good weather here, too. Slightly above freezing out and lots of sun today, which is encouraging. The foot isndoing great. I'm walking pretty well now. Hopefully, everything is all set for spring. Cheers!

In case of unexpected cold nights I carry one of those old school rubber hot water bladders intended for pain relief. On a cold night, boil some water in the jetboil, put it in the bladder and put it in your sleeping bag. It'll usually hold it's heat most of the night. Saved my brother a couple nights in Labrador as his sleeping bag wasn't rated as low as mine and it got close to zero a couple nights. That lady at ZEC Cap Chat is super nice. I purchased my pass over the phone ahead of time because I was coming from the opposite direction. This was probably my favourite area of the route. Did you ask them how much it cost to fish there? The old conservation officer I met on my trip told me it was $1,000 a night to fish in that particular spot he was at! 😳

I love the water bladder idea! Very smart. And a 1000 to fish there sounds about right. Guide fees, non-resident license, fees for random flies and gear from the guide. That kind of stuff adds up for sure. But I've never done a guided fly fishing trip before, so I'd still be down to try it out. The first ZEC were were at also had cabins which looked very nice.

Another great vid-thank you again. I’ll be back up there in June and I am enjoying the inspiration you’re providing. If you have not tried the True North East tracks that go north from Baie Comeau, they are highly recommended. BTW, ZEC is, I think, Zone d’Exploitation Contrôlée.

Thanks! I'll certainly check out that area around Baie Comeau. My buddy James was up that way I believe and he loved it. And thanks for the correction. Sometimes I've got the names down, but my brain loves to play jumble with it at times.

@@IslandADV Yes do it. I come from Fermont the city north of baie comeau. the road is 565 km long with all kinds of natural sceneries and all kinds of roads also :P be prepared but nowadays there are a lot of workers going up and down so you would find help in no time. The road is not a challenge as it was in the 90's but it still the worse in the whole Quebec. So get up there in Fermont and get your "i survived road 389" achievement patch :P

Jeepers that’s some beautiful scenery, and a wicked nice campsite. I need to plan more moto trips like that. Good on you for speaking French with the guides, sounds like they really appreciated it. Those fishing spots look amazing. Nice riding gents, Cheers and keep well!

I watched them fish for like 10 minutes off a foot path from that bridge. They caught one in the slow current, but I couldn't tell what it was. Every river we stayed at on this trip was teeming with Salmon, though. There's certainly a lot more to this trail than endless dirt roads. Cheers buddy.

Great roads to ride.....if they had roads like that on the island, you would have traveled the entire island, tip to tip. Love the terrain. Did you get a chance to talk to the fisherman as to size and species?
@IslandADV
@IslandADV 11 ай бұрын
Amazing roads eh. There's lots of stuff like this on PEI, but nothing like this. These roads will end up having you spend your whole morning and some of the afternoon on them. I didn't talk too much about fishing with the guides. Need more French practice to tackle that goal. I'm sure the day I return I'll be well versed though, lol.

ZEC = Zone exploitation controlé. means its a bit of territory given to an organisation under charter and they have to manage that land. the cost to have a cabin there is more expensive than on Crown lands thus they have more money for better roads and repairs
@IslandADV
@IslandADV 11 ай бұрын
I think I called it a few different things before the trip was over knowing I'd get the right answer from comments, lol. Thanks. I was looking at the rates for fishing passes in the first area we were in, plus non-resident licences. A cabin would be great to package it all up together, but I love the idea of a fly fishing trip up this way wild camping along the river.

Interestingly many of them where old private hunt and fishing clubs which where aquired by the province and are now managed by not-for-profit groups.

looks to me as though a fly rod is an essential part of the kit now! did you drill out the axle for the lynch pin or did you find one that's fits? i can't find the proper size anywhere. once again another great ride on the trail!
@IslandADV
@IslandADV 11 ай бұрын
Thanks! I just grinded down the pin actually for that one. But you're right, now that I have the smaller fly rod case I should be strapping it on more often. Cheers buddy.
