I clean out Dollar Tree every spring. I’ve had really good luck with their Paris Island Cos (Romaine) lettuce. They don’t really have much variety of tomatoes but stuff like greens and radishes do great. I never plant all the seeds I buy there but stick them in a plastic bin. They’re my seeds for when the SHTF, otherwise known as my Democrat, I mean Zombie, apocalypse seeds. I like MI Gardener, Baker Creek, Hoss, and some of the old stand-byes like Burpees and Parks. Parks foil packets last forever. Seed Savers Exchange is good too.

The reason Baker Creek can offer free shipping is that their prices are higher!! Sometimes, depending on what I want, I can buy it at Johnny's, or another company, and get it cheaper, even after I pay shipping. (Especially when using a coupon code.) Johnny's does NOT cost more than Baker Creek on the seeds I am buying. Baker Creek is way more expensive comparing the exact same flower and tomato. MIGardener is really reasonable, and Gurney's. Thanks for letting us know about some new companies!

I like Seeds N' Such. Got their catalog for years now and they haven't raised the pricing in a few years. They give 2 free packets of seeds for early orders as well. I have found a lot of seeds that I can't find in big box stores from them and I always order by mid January for best selection so I don't miss out. Pinetree Garden Seeds is a great company and they have fantastic prices. I have ordered from them for over 20 years and have great success with their seeds. They have a better than most germination rate for me as well. I am in SC so I always look for a company to sell tomato varieties that can withstand our heat and humidity here in the Summer because it can be rough on plants in my garden. I love Hoss tools and their seed is always a success for me as well. I like that they are close and ship very promptly to me. I am counting down the days until Spring. I guess the lettuce, cabbage, collards, and kale will have to be enough for me until the sunshine returns.

Like a number of other folks, MI Gardener is my favourite source for seeds. If Luke doesn't have what I'm looking for, then, I go to Baker Creek, Burpee, Botanical Interests, and Johnny's. I should try Territorial -- they're only a few hours down the highway. My brick and mortar favorite has been Portland Nursery for decades, but also find Wilco Farm Store and Coastal Farm and Ranch good places to go. I will have to try some of the other places you mentioned -- always learn something new from you!

I buy most of my seeds from MIgardener. His packets are only $2, germination rate is fantastic, and shipping is only $4! If uou order $20 or more, shipping is free. Also, they pffer loyalty rewards. Each order you place is worth a certain amount of points. Once they accumulate, there are different rewards you earn, like $5 ofc an order, etc. I did buy the Brandy Boy seeds from Burpeee last year, based on a previous recommendation from you. It did very well, and was delicious. I'll definitely be planting that again. But I don't buy from Burpee often because of their prices. Yes, uou get a lot of seeds, but there are other companies who pack a little of seeds into theor packets that don't charge $7 a packet. So I don't buy from Burpee unless they're the only place that has what I'm looking for

My first go to seed supplier is MI Gardener. After that, I source from Baker Creek, Johnny's, and Territorial Seed Co. Last spring, the Grand Marshall Tomato was my best producer, and produced 8-12 oz fruit that had low water content. It is great tomato for a slicer, salads, sauce, and salsa. It has been discontinue, so this year I will be experimenting with the Jolene Tomato. It is the successor to the Grand Marshall, designed for the growing conditions in the southeast region-more heat tolerant, and disease resistant. The fruit will be slightly smaller, 6-8 oz, but otherwise comparable to the Grand Marshall tomato.

North Florida - I have had the best luck with Botanical Interests, and now buy from them quite frequently. I have also had very good luck with Organo Republic (they sell on Amazon), but their seeds don't seem to last as long as other companies. The parthenogenic cukes from Johnny's haven't produced in two attempts. Southern Exposure usually does okay, but it's important to select disease-resistant varieties. Burpee and Fedco have also done okay here. Of course, everyone's mileage will vary depending on climate, soil, disease pressure, and practices.
@heika558916 сағат бұрын
I'm trying parthenocarpic cukes and zucchini this year (first attempt) because of all the pest pressure (SW Florida) so will try to keep them protected and see what happens with no access from pollinators. Regarding hybrids, I think some people are spooked about the future of seeds in general, and that's the reason they grow a lot of heirlooms, to save the seeds. We saw a lot of shortages in the last several years, and now the prices are going through the roof. But I've also noticed that, while I like the flavor of some of the heirlooms better than hybrids, the heirlooms don't produce very abundantly and seem to be more disease prone. So, I've decided to just go with the flow and do the best I can. Last year I planted Celebrity (which, as you know is a hybrid), and I was pretty satisfied. It produced well and the taste was close to the Brandywine Pink I had been planting. So, if I can get my hands on Brandy Boy this year, I'd like to try that variety. Thanks for the review on that one!

If you want to try and grow a really big tomato this is the place to get seed. Each pack costs $2.40 and shipping I think is still $3.00, shipping time is average. If you take my advice and buy from him , you should try Lehrer tomato, Soldacki, AH Scorpii, or Zaczilla for a BIG tomato. I had some over 2 lbs last year and I didn't do anything different to them.

West Coast Seeds up here in Canada is solid. Hawthorn Farm has been good to the few times I’ve ordered from them. MIGardener as a few people have already pointed out (including Luke posting!) had an incredible promo years ago and their seeds from I think 3-4 years ago still have a remarkable germination rate. You’ve nailed it on the head though, often it’s better to buy from a company that is regional because they do their own trials of varieties and then offer those along with testimonials to buyers so that you can get a better idea of what to expect before even purchasing them. For me, that is William Dam Seeds in Flamborough, Ontario. Amazing family-ran business operating since 1959.

The cost increases at some companies this year, even for heirloom varieties, is jaw dropping. (Bloomsdale spinach seed for $5 and $6 a pkg, for example.) I sometimes buy seeds from Southern Exposure and Baker Creek (mentioned in your video). But most often, I buy seed from Fedco, Renee's Garden and Everwilde. Everwilde sells seed in re-closable mylar packages designed to keep seeds fresh longer. Since I have a small garden and rarely use an entire packet of seed in one season,, that feature is very important to me. Fedco Seeds is a cooperative owned 60% by customers and 40% by employees, which appeals to me, and they have pledged to sell non-GMO seeds. Also, they have a large selection of seeds. Renee's Garden offers a smaller selection of seeds but includes many unique and interesting varieties that tempt me to try something new. I used to buy from Seed Savers until they began slapping a large legal advisory on the back of their seed packages. Not reassuring.

I am trying their various pelleted seeds because those dam tiny seeds are trouble - especially carrots. Burpee - Bought some varieties recommended here by the Millennial Gardener and they have done well. I just ordered from Baker Creek. I have far more seed varieties than I will find room to plant! Fortunately seeds are cheap.

My Jacks all purpose came yesterday, Thank You much for recommending it . I needed a water soluble fertilizer that doesn’t smell for seedlings. In two days a sweet potato started rooting with the Jacks .

I bought my seeds a month ago. I have to be really careful, I get so addicted to seeds and seed sales. Plus I have a big collection of seeds from previous years. Its a sickness! I buy a lot from Tomato Growers; their catalog is great, but Ive also bought from all the others you mentioned, and have had good luck with them all. I noticed the same with Hoss Seeds, they are hugely generous with the seeds. Have to give a shout out to MIgardener, too. Ive bought a lot from them, pricing and shipping are rock bottom, and Ive had great luck with the seeds. Their sales are killer!!

My favorite places to buy my seeds are Baker Creek (free shipping and free package of seed with your order), MI Gardener, this year, they changed the shipping cost but still, you can't find anyone cheaper than MIG with a good selection and good germination rate. Hoss and Burpee (shipping is $3.95 flat fee, yes, even for one package). Some business, their shipping price is stupid expensive or the seed count is very low. I had received packages with 10 tomato seeds. I've been growing for seven years now. I learned what and where to look for when ordering my seeds. Good information for the beginners but consider to try MI Gardener. Thank you!! I always enjoy your videos.

I was going to suggest Hoss too. Just tried them last year and so far so good!! Also I agree with all the others who suggest MIGardener. They are the first seed company I send my friends, that I have talked into grow at least a little bit, to. Great Selection! Great Prices! And Honestly when I really got back into growing and the garden in 2020 I bought seeds from MIGardener. I still have some of those seeds and yes I am still getting decent germination from some of them!

It wasn't meant to be, but him and I were actually texting today 😅 Atlanta's climate is very similar to mine. Maybe about 2-3 degrees cooler in the winter, and quite a bit drier in the summer, but it's 90% the same. Anything I grow in winter will grow in Atlanta.

I have ordered seeds from some of the companies you mentioned. I do like Baker Creek's free shipping. I also like Park Seeds and Hoss. I'm in zone 9a and Hoss has some seed varieties that grow well in my area. This is my 3rd year growing tomatoes in fabric grow bags and other veggies in my GreenStalk vertical planters. I don't have an in-ground garden. First year - dwarf tomatoes, second year - indeterminate tomatoes, this coming spring - micro dwarf tomatoes to grow in my GreenStalk planters. Happy gardening in 2025! 👍👍

Still trying to find success with potatoes slips… 🤔 Happy Gardening! 👨🌾

Thanks for giving your favorite catalogs! Also I really appreciate your experience on heirloom tomatoes in the south. I have always grown heirloom tomatoes but only in Colorado and they do great, but we recently moved to central Texas and I have been hearing that they probably won’t do as well . But very little information on why. Your explanation is so helpful! Thanks!

I buy a lot from Baker Creek but have had germination issues with some of the seeds over the past few years.
@TheMillennialGardenerКүн бұрын
Sometimes, germination issues can be caused by incorrect storage and improper germination conditions. Make sure you are using a seedling heat mat set to somewhere in the 75-80 degree range for cool crops and 80-85 degrees for warm season crops. My heat mat is currently sent on 77 degrees, and germination was within 3 days. This video may help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXmyY2aZhbdgkKMsi=atoZfGr29jpADvjW If you do not start them on a seedling heat mat, or you store them in a warm, humid location or in a sunny location, that can destroy the seeds.

@@TheMillennialGardener I store my seeds in a dark, cool location and normally buy fresh yearly. Most of what I buy does great, and their live plants are amazing, but as I said, lately some have underperformed. The May Queen lettuce and Purple Dragon carrots were my most recent failures. I planted them at the same time as Merlot lettuce and Kyoto Red carrots (which did wonderfully) so I don't think it was a seed starting technique issue. I did do a germination test of the Purple Dragons and had a 10% germination rate. On the upside, Baker Creek is awesome about replacing or refunding for failed products.

Your comment about seed displays in inappropriate locations is right on. I myself have seen in grocery stores where the seeds are under sunny glass window! They are practically cooking the seeds. Obviously you buy A LOT of seeds, MG. What do you do with the extra seeds? Do you throw them away? Do you also collect your own seeds, especially the heirloom ones?

As a market gardener I really like Harris seeds. They've got tons of F1s I like to grow and the seed pricing is extremely reasonable when purchased in the 1000 or higher seed count

The San Diego seed company is great for those that are Mediterranean climate like Southern California. Growing plants in a given area really opens up their epigenetic gene pool to allow their offspring to flourish given the area. Understandably Southern California has very mild climate but just as with each climate needs different needs to make sure the plants thrive purchasing from smaller sellers is hedging your pets to ensure that you get a plant that will produce for you with the least amount of work or concern.

Great list. Love Tomato Growers Supply. I like Johnnys, Victory. Tomato Growers Supply and Johnny’s are recommended for Sungold. Usually my only hybrid. Live in Northern MN. I do grow hybrid peppers though. I also buy Seed Savers Exchange and High Mowing. Sand Hill Preservation in Iowa is worth looking at. Ordered from them many times. My daughter wants to start gardening. She lives just north of you near Jacksonville. Recommended your channel to her.

Thank you for introducing me to Tomato Growers! It looks like they carry my favorite hybrids, Sungold, and Super Sweet 100 for a very good price! A few of my other favorites are MI Gardener, Botanical Interests, and Gurneys. There is a seed company based here in MA that is sold at the big stores that I won't buy again because I've always had terrible germination. I wonder what Dale would think about my lights! I use a lot of really bright LEDs in just about every tree I can reach!

I found MIgardener and like the price, variety and service. I always get an extra see packages also. Avoid Amazon - Foreign / wrong seeds. 😊
@TheMillennialGardenerКүн бұрын
Excellent! Some stuff on Amazon is good, though. I've never had anything but success buying actual *seed packets* off Amazon. Amazon sells Sow Right Seeds, Survival Garden Seeds and Gardener's Basics packets, and they've always been good to me. What I would not do is buy seed on Amazon that doesn't come in packets. I avoid the sellers that give you itty bitty plastic bags with random seed in them.

@@TheMillennialGardener I tried dwarf zinnias and got regular sized. The next order took forever (China) - no germination. The Marigold was not anything I'd ever seen. I like migardener because I get near 100% germination and Baker's Creek is Plant Porn! LOL .
