That was so freaking cool. I didn't even know Solo made a twin and it sounds amazing!

It can be difficult to develop a tuned expansion chamber with a Y-pipe, but it would make these saws sound insane. Multi-pipe is cool, but any time you can combine the sound from multiple cylinders into one outlet it gets even better.

Once the solo gets a tune up it looks like it’s going to be a decent saw.

I have a JD Twin. Mastemind modded a Echo/Jd twin and he sent it out to have the crank welded as I guess they have a tendency to spin when you add power

In the 1960s lots of twin 2 stroke motorcycles. The best sound came from the triples. Kawaski and Suzuki triples.

I second this observation. Find the dead cylinder and that's likely the one that lean. One kept dropping out

You forgot to say that the opposed piston saw fires both cylinders at same time as they share crankcase usually, it looks like the centre line of cylinders is quite close and it's usual for OP 2 strokes. The inline fired every 180 degrees that's why it sounds so different. Really the OP saw could have a 2 into 1 and a single expansion chamber. Be good if you could have twin carbs? Don't know how you would set them up though? I want one. Perfect for a scooter!

Never seen a small twin, we had a big twin at the farm big ole opposing twin like a Wisconsin about a 6ft bar with a handle on the end of bar, wish I would've held on to it, don't have a clue what happened to it. That's been 55-60 yrs ago
@rockymountainchainsaw2 жыл бұрын
Dang thats cool. Do you remember what model it was?
@billhazard49462 жыл бұрын
Too many yrs, mid 60s engine was opposing twin, two handles like handlebars probably 16 to 20 wide,should go to the farm if can see if it's still in toolshed I used to Milk there in late sixty's, don't know if anyone's living there anymore might get shot!!!

This gives me a kooky idea.. mount a Banshee engine onto a wheel barrow frame (tub removed), fit crankshaft with chainsaw clutch, fabricate/fit bar mount/manual oiler, add a longbar that semi- balances everything over the wheel, and voila- Handlebar Chainsaw on STEROIDS!? I think that you should call it Captain Insano. I see it being the most unwieldy, cumbersome, and impracticable powersaw ever created *YET MOST AWESOME!

I worked on those Echos when new. Essentially they're 2 302 Echo motors back to back. 61cc, heavy for the size & wouldn't handle a 2' bar good. Very smooth but the cooling areas had a habit of plugging up. Very expensive also. Echo later used that engine as a sprayer converting 1 cylinder as a pump, it didn't sell well either. Used to have ignition parts for 'em.
