Those who dont go through it wont know. His mother is still more fortunate. She can walk. Shes not paralysed frm strokes or anything serious illness. But dementia in the long run robs a person of everything. Memory, health and the caregivers suffer the most.

He can be real proud of himself, doing something that many people don't and even never have a such "idea" in the head, especially in those so called "developed" countries. Sir, be proud of yourself, your mother should be proud too, to have you as son, you deserve the happiness by doing so, sharing it with your beloved mother. He's a good model for those in the same situation of taking care of their old parents.

This cause me to tear. A great role model. He's lucky to be able to take care of his mom as he's an entrepreneur, running his own business. Most of us would have have very little choice but to send our parents to eldercare homes while we work. Nonetheless, an inspiring piece.

You are such a doting and loving son, an aspiration to the younger generation. I'm sure that even though she has trouble recognizing you at times, you are etched at the back of her mind. I admire your positive outlook regardless of how challenging it is. I wished I had more time to spend with my late mum who battled through cancer and had dementia during the later stages. Nevertheless may god bless you and your mum and ease everything for the both of you ♡

I rarely comment on KZbin, but this video makes me do it. This video is really touching, I cried a lot while watching it. In my country, we don't say "I love you" to our parents and vice versa that often (maybe it's just me, but that's what I feel), maybe because that phrase sounds so cheesy in my mother tongue (I'm Vietnamese by the way). And I've just said it after watching this video. It's such a painful process to see our loved ones getting older and weaker, and these moments like these are absolutely gold. And I'll say "I love you" to my future kids every day. Thanks so much for this meaningful and touching video.

I remembered our business school took us to old folks home as our group assignment and everything on that day hit me. I literally in tears listening to all the auntie uncle grandma grandpa stories from their own family abandon them, can't take care of them due to their jobs or sent them to old folks home without reason only to be told they will be back to pick them up but 10-20 years later they still remain at the old folks home and still waiting for their child return. As an obedient son myself It really got me like.. how on earth ppl do this to their parents.. Some grandpa even told me, "I just want to be back at my home.. a heartwarming home".. I broke down.. but that was the easiest assignment as there's no report to hand in yet the most painful eye opening life experience I've ever felt not as a student but as a child.

Dear Sir; my late dad similar like your loved one. Myself and my brother took turn to look after my aging dad. Not easy; but looking back. It is a journey, that I can proudly tell myself and my kids, that I looked after my dad when he needed us most. Do treasure with your loved one when he or she is still alive. I still can remember that while my late mother was still around, I always kissed her on the forehead before I go back my house; which is next block. My late mom was shy off by my kisses and since both of my parents have left me due to old age. I do have happy memories with them while they were alive. So, treasure your loved ones when they are still around. David, singapore

It makes me cry so hard. What a loyal and loving son which makes me ache even more as I remembered how my own brother had to be scolded into speaking to our dying mother with dementia too, on the phone, as she longed to hear from him who seldom called and if lucky she would get to see her son while in transit for an hour in between 10 years apart. I wish my mom had a son like Paul. Parents who fuss and worries over their children, when they are young, please remember them with gratitude and don't abandoned them because they become a burden.

As a caregiver for my grandpa, I can really empathise. It isn't easy and there are days when you'd rather be in their shoes. You'd rather suffer instead of them and it pains you to see them forget you or feel like a burden to you. Dementia is a painful disease for us, the people who love the patient. Stay strong, there is always a community that you can rely on.
