Thanks as always for watching! I've included some links to blu-rays mentioned in the video in the video description above. Cheers!

I recently saw for the first time Powell and Pressburger's "I know where I am going!". It's in black and white and very self contained (unlike alot of their more grand films) but it still has the same elements that make their other films great. Engaging characters and a great sense of fantasy.

Yes! I really hope it gets a good Blu-ray Disc in the near future. Cheers for watching!

I have the Criterion DVD. It is past time for an upgrade.

The Shop Around The Corner is exquisite - one of those classic films from the studio era where everything works. The supporting cast is incredible and complements the two leads perfectly. This is one film that truly deserves the Criterion treatment.
@ElliotCoen2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s a classic! I know the rights are with WB but maybe it could join the Criterion Lubitschs one day!

Evil Dead 2 is a stone cold classic. Same with Winchester 73 FYI - David Robert Mitchell's feature debut was THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER. IT FOLLOWS came next.

While Sleepless in Seattle clearly shows you it’s following in the footsteps of Love Story and Affair to Remember. You’ve Got Mail is a copy of The Shop Around the Corner, and they don’t tell you. You see the movie and are like ohhhh ok.

Thanks for your recommendations! I've only seen half so far. My favorite first-time watch this year was The Browning Version with Michael Redgrave. It was a beautiful film.

My pleasure! That’s a great film - it needs a good Blu-ray over here. I know Imprint in Australia have made one.

Totally love "Pain & Gain" & the dark humour of this movie. Great performances, especially that of Tony Shalhoub (180 degree opposite of his role in "Big Night" -also a great movie).

Great video, I just picked up Kill Them All . . . on your recommendation. Not really a big fan of Chuck Connors but a Western by Castellari has got to be checked out! And the Studio Canal Cult Classics are at a great price point.

I got La Prisoniere from a Kino sale a couple years ago and loved it! I also thought Under The Silver Lake was great! One of those movies that I really had a reaction to and had to type out a bunch of thoughts in a word document.

Indeed! Thanks for watching Bailee :) I hope you’re well

Pain & Gain is a great movie and I really enjoyed A Cure For Wellness. I've heard of some of those other films you mentioned (and in some cases have copies lol) but have not watched them yet but some of them sound like films I need to move up my list of things to watch!

With Evil Dead 1&2, did you also watch Army of Darkness? That one is personally my favorite of the original trilogy; it’s so ridiculously goofy and TONS of fun, and it’s not even really scary any more at that point (it’s just hilarious lol!). AoD had a 4K release last year as well, and it looks great too!
@ElliotCoen2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam! I haven’t seen AoD yet! Hopefully I can grab the 4K this year :)

@@ElliotCoen Very cool :) If you enjoy the movies, then you would also probably enjoy the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV show; I thought that was also a lot of fun and it was very well done

Michael Bay is a brilliant filmmaker, at least in the genre he chooses to work. Pain and Gain is probably his best film. 13 Hours and Ambulance are also pretty amazing for what they are.

i have a couple of questions regarding criterion movie selections and your opinion: what movie(s) do you think didn't deserve to have the criterion treatment? and what movie(s) deserves it but still doesn't have the honor yet? also.. an good written essay it's enought to accept a film as part of the selection?

Elliot, for horror I suggest for you Ti West's "X" and its prequel "Pearl", that were released last year and both starring Mia Goth, who should get an Oscar for her performance for the latter. These movies unlike other standard horror films have deep social commentary and themes. I can't wait for the sequel "MaXXXine" to finish the trilogy.
