When I married my husband I got him to start investing in real estate and the stock market (previously he contributed generously to his 401K and Roth but had amassed a bunch of cash that was just sitting) and brought my investment portfolio (~$250K at age 28) doubling his net worth. We both made $100K/year and the investments I got us into contribute another $50-100K/year. Marrying me was the best financial decision he made. Did anyone else notice he really skirted the question of what they were going to do once they sold the house? My best guess is this poor dude is drug around by his non working entitled, keep up with the neighbors lifestyle and she’s wanting an even more expensive home. Poor dude is going to lose everything because his wife doesn’t know anything about finances or budgeting.

Their choice is basically to sell the house to pay for the truck and fifth wheel or sell the fifth wheel and truck and keep the house. What will each choice look like in 20 years? The house will go from being worth 500k to 1.5 million and the truck and fifth wheel will be worth zero in a scrapyard. And they will have paid $800k in rent. You can’t win financially by selling appreciating assets to buy depreciating ones. Who sells SanDiego real estate to buy vehicles?

Why do people get married? It's so much easier when you don't have to get another person "on board". She will continue to drag him down financially, emotionally and spiritually until either the money runs out or he puts his foot down. Then, she will take the kids and force him to pay child support and alimony. The dumbest thing a man can do is get married.
