I just relocated around 10 mature female Latrodectus hasselti from my place here in Aus. I'm very comfortable around spiders and usually don't mind keeping them around but something about Theridiids scares the pants off me. Also, I'm not sure how it translates across the different Latrodectus species but Redback Spider venom in Australia is deadly for cats. A little bit of knowledge that's worth passing on :)

catching black widows is easy if you are patient a widow doesn't Webb a neat retreat it makes a mess of a mesh in a hollow space. knowing this catching them does not take any effort in foraging for them just build rectangular wood boxes with some holes and no bottom and place them early in the year in the places they reside then come back in the summer and 100% sure there will be widows in your boxes! so, you could go on an early vacation hide your boxes, and come back for a summer vacation to retrieve them no fuss the spiders will come to you because you give them their fab living space. a box 30 by 40 by 30cm will do drill some holes on the side near the open bottom and when placing the trap leave a bit of space open between the ground and the box by putting one side on some branches or stones so the spidies can enter before using the trap boxes leaving them out in wind and weather will also help it will get rid of the new wood smell that could deter the spiders a bit of slight rot will attract isopods wich the spiders like to snack on making it an even better trap so planing 1to 2 years ahead and having these traps rotting in your garden somewhere will help and European types of false widows will call this their home in your area and I'm sure these live in your garden and hedge so there is the perfect place to cure your widow trap boxes.

You actually could. They are very popular in the spider hobby. The only issue with wild caught is the likelihood of the females being gravid. Just make sure you let people know they're wildcaught and possibly gravid. I'm the owner of a western black widow. I had to get my girl as a sub-adult to make sure she wasn't gravid. Western black widows are not native to my area.
