Frank did have a hand in writing the lyric. This is the 1957 recording for the incredible Capital album “Where Are You” arranged by Gordon Jenkins. The first time he recorded this song was in 1951 and it was a single for Columbia Records. The “b” side of the earlier recording was “Mama Will Bark”. The ‘51 recording will break your heart even more than this one.

What a feeling of deep true love. If a person has a chance for true love, they have to take the chance and cherish it.

[Verse 1] I'm a fool to want you I'm a fool to want you To want a love that can't be true A love that's there for others too [Verse 2] I'm a fool to hold you Such a fool to hold you To seek a kiss not mine alone To share a kiss the Devil has known [Chorus] Time and time again I said I'd leave you Time and time again I went away But then would come the time when I would need you And once again these words I'll have to say [Verse 3] Take me back, I love you Pity me, I need you I know it's wrong, it must be wrong But right or wrong I can't get along Without you

I very rarely say ONE version of a Sinatra song is better than another version. I think that goes for this song. This Capitol version, 6 years after the Columbia one is certainly different…not better. The Columbia version with the vocal support was special…especially the ending. He killed the ending…it was magnificent. This version is slower and more deliberate. Absolutely amazing as well. Both are incredible in their own right.

I believe that the lyrics were co-written by Frank himself!!
