A WOMAN from Norway has found a way to reconnect with her ancestry by becoming a modern-day Viking. Sòl Geirsdottir, from Rygge, Norway, has spent the past 10 years dressed as a “Viking Queen”. Growing up, she says she was a “weird, creative kid” and was always “obsessed” with old Norse stories and ancient history. Now at 31 years old, Sòl calls herself a “modern-day Viking” whose life is influenced by the traditional aesthetics and culture. Follow her story here:

Don't take me wrong I make most of my dresses by hand and with a sewing machine and I know how to sew since I was a kid (I'm 29) but I always saw it as something normal and some of those skills you have to know in life just like cooking or basic plumbing or basic electrical installation

Vikings were, what, 5% of the population, it’s a tiny chance one has direct ancestry. If you’ve done research on your family lineage and discovered that your ancestors were indeed of the chosen Viking warrior profession- then yes. Sol, in this video, might have done that as well, or just chose to live like a Norse from the Viking Era. The correct would be to say Norse/ Nordmän ancestry. Everyone who is Norse knows this, we don’t walk around over here assuming for some reason we have direct lineage to Vikings, only foreigners abroad on the internet do, I’ve recently discovered.

Honestly, I think we'd all be better off if more people started doing this sort of thing. Modern life is getting more and more shallow and chaotic and frustrating every year, but we have literal millennia of different ways of living to look back on and inspire us. If someone wants to live their life like a viking, or a roman, or a Victorian, or, hell, just someone who lived a few decades back, then more power to them, I say - if you've got the time and the money to spend, it's a much healthier and more inspiring thing to sink those into than a lot of what goes on today.

@@odiw2509 I hope you realize majority of viking were farmers and (just like modern vikings) actually traded with other countries. yes some of us did do that stuff, but a majority didn't. Also the main reason we invaded places like the British Isles was because we saw a farming potential, it's during this time period the English language got some if it's Norse influence(example: the word "husband").
