I'm a Tile Painter | My Design Life

The art of azulejos began as a way for Portuguese painters to imitate Chinese and Arabic tile work. Though its origins can be traced to the 13th century, azulejo painting boomed in the 1500s, when it emerged in Portuguese and Spanish design. We stepped into the studio with Anabela Cardoso, an azulejo painter who works to preserve the traditional art form and, more important, pass on the skill: glam.com.

I'm from Portugal and I couldn't be more proud of my country and of this lady. She is a great artist and she'll pass it on to her students. Tiles are one of my passions and although I only draw some patterns on my visual diary, I'd love to learn how to paint in real azulejos.

I'm Portuguse and so proud to see a video featuring Portuguese traditions on a place "away from home" :) Of all the themes you could have picked, and Portugal sure has a big list going on, the Portuguese tiles were perfect to talk about. Wow, how we've all forgot our old traditional ways. That is what got all of us here today. I don't do tiles but rebuild/restore old cars the old school ways. It beats just going out and buying a new shiny one any day.

Parabéns! Eu amo os azulejos portuguêses. Eles são lindos. Eu gostaria muito de aprender como hobby. Eu moro na Alemanha, mas estou 5 vezes por ano de férias no Porto. Eu nunca vi uma escola ou atelier no Porto que queira ensinar de verdade, eu só vejos workshops que para mim não se aprende nada. Se você puder me dar uma dica eu ficaria muito grato. +missjay012 I think she does, but she also talked about restoration. And when you're restoring something it's easier to trace the original artists drawings etc because everyone has a certain style, sometimes even when copying a style it won't look the same, so it's kinda hard.
