What a lot of these mods don’t realize is that once they “send” the creature after you and have it kill you/chase you, it ends the suspense and makes it permanently less scary. Theoretically then, the most suspenseful Minecraft mod would be one that hints at the idea of a monster but simply does not have one, it plays ambience sometimes and leads you to believe that maybe something is out there, but there is simply nothing, because if a chase never happens and it never kills you, you are simply left wondering forever. Btw this isn’t a critique of the video or anything.

@@lowballinn Lots of mods have a creature that watches from a distance, the idea of a “stalking” monster doesn’t work well with mine craft for a couple of reasons. 1. The limitations of mine craft modding make it very hard to have a good stalking mechanic, often resulting in it simply standing there or getting stuck in things. 2. Once you learn that you aren’t in any danger while it is “stalking” it very quickly becomes an after thought. 3. This idea of stalking does not at all consider one of the most important parts of horror, that being the philosophy of “It’s not about what you show, it’s about what you don’t show.” No good horror can exist without room for our imaginations to fill in the details, the unknown is vastly scarier than the known, because there is an infinite number of unknowns that completely obliterates all possible chance that the known can be scarier. How does this tie into stalking? Similarly to my point about how “The moment the chase ends and the creatures tricks are revealed, it is no longer scary” (my original comment) Once you’ve seen what the creature looks like there is no need to imagine what it COULD it look like, we’ve seen it, it’s over.
