In the book, the scene where Charlie relapses into self harm after having the argument with Nick really shows the stress that Nick was going through during this period as well. I think this season does a better job overall of giving voice to Nick‘s mental health. In the book, they both get very angry with each other and Nick uncharacteristically storms off. Charlie then self harms, and it’s Tori that calls Nick and lays into him about leaving Charlie alone when he’s that upset. You could see how frantic Nick was to get back to him at the end of that scene.

Hey-- I'm a trans man (born AFAB) who's been SA'd before! I can talk about the bathroom issue more in depth, if cis people are wondering. Be warned though, it's obviously going to be grim. I was an openly queer kid growing up in the 2000s & 2010s. While I didn't know I was trans yet, I definitely knew I was bi & that I always gravitated towards masculine things; especially my presentation. The closet was made of glass & I was often called a boy as a taunt, but "mysteriously" never minded it. I was also born disabled & bullied severely by my peers regarding it. In 6th grade, these bullies found out that I had been crushing on another boy in our class, and the severe bullying took a turn for the worse-- sexual harassment AND soon after, SA. It was primarily 3 kids, 2 girls and 1 boy. And they did it repeatedly to hammer home how undesirable they found me. The girls tried in the bathroom & locker room, the boy always in the back of the bus, and all 3 alone on the stairwells & the recess yard. This was almost 10 years ago now and here's what I've made of it; *I will never be safe again.* Which sounds grim, but think about it. The location didn't matter much. It wasn't solely about gender. It was about power. It's like a car; you can crash at any time. If you're alone, anybody can grab you. Anytime, anywhere. Gendered spaces may help give you an extra sense of security, but they'll never save you. Almost nothing can. *But that doesn't mean that you live in fear.* It doesn't mean that you have to stop driving, or stress about who's around you all the time, or even stop dating others. You do what you can to keep yourself safe. But you also have to believe that things will be okay in the long run if you're not. It still haunts me, but... I'm at a lot more peace than I used to be. Let trans people in. They probably don't want to bother you, anyway. I certainly don't.

This happens in UK media a lot were Trans people are brought on TV shows and radio programs under false pretences. To defend trans rights against bigots in the hopes that they won’t see it coming and be disadvantaged in the conversation. Transphobia is rampant in UK media right now. I think that’s what they were trying to portray here, unfortunately this is actually quite mild compared to how these situations actually go down.

There is an argument to be made that underage will find a way to drink no matter how many steps you put in front of them. So instead of making it completely forbidden, you could just allow a safe space for them to drink that you can make sure that they won't do so in danger. Example Drinking driving, dirnking with unknown people, especially kids first time drinking they are likely to overdrink. So having a safe place where they can drink and then having a trusted chaperone like the older sister aids in teaching them to drinking responsibility.

for Charlie it's body dysmorphia- a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance- you can see flaws and fixate on aspects of your appearance that aren't there. it Shows up with a lot of eating disorders- there are also his scars which he is scared to show to nick. the way the subtle transphobia was presented I thought was done well- a lot of times when people are being transphobic they think they are being an ally and can word their transphobia in a way that to some people (mainly cishets)can come off as fine and not seen as transphobic when in reality what they said and or did was very transphobic

That radio interview scene pissed me off. It was manipulative of them to do that to Elle. Morgan made very good points that trans people go to the bathroom for the same reason that human beings do, which is to use the toilet, that cishet men are usually perpetrators of SA towards people from the marginalized community, and that there's a possibility that people are going to target Elle on social media because of her gender identity. People who have no knowledge about a certain subject matter shouldn't talk about that subject matter because it will lead to the spread of false information.

Hi, I’m sorry just letting you know what Charlie is experiencing is body dysmorphia not body dysphoria. I experience both so I wanted to explain the difference the best I can. Body Dysmorphia- this is an obsessive focus on perceived issues with the body. These are normally issues that aren’t actually visible to most but are glaring to the person with the dysmorphia. It morphs the perception of how one sees their body and how they think others perceive it as well. This is a common problem for people with EDs to have. Body Dysphoria- This is specific to gender. It is extreme distress about one’s gender identity. In most cases it’s distress caused by the very real incongruence between one’s body and gender. Sorry, hope this helps. I really love your reactions. 💛

The radio show was horrendous! And as a feminist, I am personally insulted when people disguise bigotry behind that, I detest it! And tbh I don’t see why it’s so hard to have both gender neutral and gendered bathrooms… make it mandatory to have at least one gender neutral bathroom and optional to have extra gendered ones… it’s literally so easy to make small changes to accommodate different needs of different people without (usually) changing your own reality, it just baffles me when people make such a big deal out of it Edit: I think that was a reference to the UK reality, but for the wider audience, by JKR’ attitude (who identifies as a feminist btw 🤮) this argument is quite well known… such a disappointment
