Solo Leveling was originally written by Korean author Chugong as Only I Level Up or I Alone Level Up. Solo Leveling really gained popularity when it was Illustrated by Dubu who unfortunately passed away last year. So this is a very Korean story but it is animated by Japanese studio A-1 Pictures.

You missed the part when they where explaining the rank system that once you awaken your power no matter how much you try you can’t go up another rank you basically stuck at whatever rank you are.

Yep, it will get explained to some degree far later on again, but definitely not in this season. And it is of utmost importance for the core of this story...

@@2nd_Directorate it will get explained in this season. Its listed for 24 episodes at least, with 2 cours. first cour should end after the job change quest, maybe the red gate but thats unlikely. Cour 2 would be able to finish s1 in the manwha. They added extra content from the LN in the beginning to explain the world better, and they still managed to get to around chapter 3 by the end of the episode. If they do 5 chapters an episode, which is very realistic, the math plays out to around 115-120 chapters for 24 episodes, which is more than S1's 110 chapters.

@@freazerburn0 DId u read the LN? because i cant remember the early combat being in the LN, also why 5 chapers an episode? episode 1 cover like the 3 first episodes of the manwha.

@@JamaRift it wasn’t the first thing in the novel, but they used a past raid of the jeju island from the novel in the beginning of the anime. and as i said, they got to chapter three while using the LN sources. from now on if they use the manwha with the LN world building, they can easily do 5 chapters.

So awesome to see you reacting to this! Some background. Solo Leveling was a Korean web novel first (was generic and not well known intially), picked up as a web only manhwa (web comic) where the artist Dubu really brought it into popularity with his art style and mobile format centric layouts. Many korean webcomic studios have copied his style because it was that popular. Sadly, he passed away before this episode was created. The show is animated by Studio A1, known for the Sword Art Online, and Fairy Tale! There is a supposed to be a Korean dub as well.

Something im noticing rewatching the episode is that they're including characters that are going to be shown in future arcs in the little scenes, if you've read the manhwa you'd know who the guy they tested the ranking ball on, and the girl who got her bag stolen.

Random comment but goddamn I love people who take notes! It shows that you're actively watching and trying to pay attention to the world and story, a lot of reactors focus on going "oooh wow" to big fight scenes and seem to ignore all the character and worldbuilding in shows!

Really fun to see you reacting to this show! I got hooked on the manhwa early on and it was a pretty amazing read. Just one note: it was mentioned, although easy to miss, but hunters cannot actually change their rank. They may get more powerful weapons or sturdier armor, but after their awakening as hunters, their abilities are fixed.

I'm loving all these theories from people who haven't read the manhwa, very interesting since I know what will happen. You're on the right track with your theory about the essence stone but also wrong at the same time, all I'm gonna say is that this story will completely flip your perception of power fantasy on it's head hehehe. You seem to have missed that his stone is an E-rank stone. Those are common as sand on the beach and the one they showed was way more complex because it was from a high ranking beast. Also him being so weak it would be weird for a beast he can defeat to have a powerfull stone. But great reaction either way.

It's not a Korean anime, it's a japanese anime based on a Korean Novel + webtoon

Its based on the Light Novel by Chugong. The Manwha version is bullsh*t! The only good thing about it was the illustrations but the rest, the storyline especially bs. They tried to change most of the story but failed. I am a LN only reader and what they did to the Manwha pisses me off. That's why i strongly believe that A1 pictures will stick to the original storyline not the Manwha version.
